What an amazing place!

Feb 17th, 2020

I booked this hotel on the strength of it having an 8 acre Botanical Garden and it's Tripadvisor reviews. It far exceeded all expectations, we had a wonderful 11 nights. Where to start! Well probably at the beginning would be the best place, we arrived to an amazing greeting I am feeling really guilty now as I can't remember the name of the young man on reception but what really impressed me was that whenever we saw him over the 11 days he always remembered our names, In fact all the staff were very good in always remembering our names or room number. The staff truely make this Hotel special they really are the stars of the show! Totaly proffessional service with a smile nothing was ever too much trouble. Special mention to Christina and Vanessa whose smiles lit up the whole restaurant. The rooms were large and beautifully furnished, Spotlessly clean and well looked after by the housekeeping staff through out our stay. Reception staff were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble from organising restaurant bookings, excursions and even arranging there own transport to the pharmacy for me on the Shuttle bus. The shuttle bus service was an added bonus. Breakfast was very good so much choice every day I could not resist the crepes with sugar and lemon freshly cooked to order.....delicious. We booked B&B rather than half board, this gave us flexability to try other restaurants. I am really pleased we did The set menu is good but rather restricting as the A la Carte Menu was amazing and not much more expensive. We ate at the hotel on 6 of the nights, the food was truely memorable. The lamb and Duck were particularly good and the Cappacio of Tuna with Foie Gras and Mango was probably the best starter I have ever tasted! Before dinner Happy hour in the bar was very popular and had live music each day. I had great fun trying a different Cocktail each evening The Jardins Do Lago was wonderful! Lazy lunches by the pool were also excellant and very good value for money. The Prego was particularly good. We were so lucky that the weather was so good so a lot of time was spent relaxing by the pool. As a very keen gardener, I just loved the gardens, the team of gardeners do an amazing job. I spent so much time just wandering in the gardens loosing myself in the the beauty and tranquillity of the surroundings. And last but no where near least was Colombos, he realy is the star of the Jardins do Lago. What a character. This was our first time at this amazing hotel but hopefully not the last. A Perfect Hotel

Feb 14th, 2020

We chose this hotel for its location on the outskirts of Funchal and for the garden. It surpassed our expectations. The old established garden, beautifully tended was a delight. Lots of flowers and shady and sunny places to sit. The views across the Atlantic were lovely and the sunrises spectacular. The day started with a lovely breakfast in the garden to the sound of birdsong and the friendliest and politest staff you can imagine. The pool area is lovely and a great place for lunch. We had half board as we did not want to go in search of restaurants in the evening and the food was varied and delicious. Funchal town was a short taxi ride or you could use the hotel shuttle that operates a number of times every day. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bar was a good place to relax with some live music every evening ( just for "happy hour) and twice a week for longer. The staff were very helpful to guests with any challenge and I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable, relaxing and beautiful setting for their visit to the beautiful island of Madeira. Most beautiful hotel in Funchal Madeira

Feb 12th, 2020

We visited here for a short break in February and were blessed with the most glorious weather. What a beautiful hotel! Everything was without doubt the highest possible standard. We stayed in the presidential suite. On arrival we were greeted warmly by the staff at reception and although we were early, our room was ready for us. The suite was exceptional and our balcony not only overlooked the sea, but the fabulous gardens which rival any botanical garden experience. The food was excellent at both dinner and breakfast. The poolside restaurant was equally good. Set on the hillside overlooking the town, this hotel is one to rival all the prestigious hotels by the sea that command higher prices. It is superb value for money and I cannot recommend it more highly. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We found this amazing location wile walking in Madeira. A mansion house with fabulous gardens and a kidney shaped pool in the middle of beauty. We found ourselves arriving at 11 am and not leaving the snack lounge area of the pool until 6.00 pm. The staff were very friendly but professional. They really care for your needs. We were not residents were made to feel welcomed. Food was fantastic and Our friends have just booked for 2 weeks in early June. I will look forward to my visit. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
