Despite lockdown, a great hotel & service, we’ll be back when we can…

This was our 1st visit to Gran Canaria in over 20 years. Last time we had our small children with us, so we stayed in an apartment in Puerto Rico. This time it was just the two of us, so a nice hotel was called for, and I’d spotted the Radisson had opened a few years back. I always prefer a newer hotel, and thought Puerto Mogan looked quite pretty. LOCATION: 4/5: As part of any holiday, we enjoy a morning stroll, and an evening walk to choose a restaurant for dinner. Unfortunately, Spain declared lockdown less than 24 hours after we arrived, so we only had chance to sample the resort centre and eat out once, but we really liked the feel of the place. There’s a lovely well-stocked supermarket just a couple of hundred yards from the hotel. There’s also a really great walkway that takes you past the supermarket and down to the resort centre… just turn right as you come out of the hotel entrance and keep going… it’s about a 10-15 minute walk. FACILITIES: 4/5: Very nice! The hotel has well-kept grounds, and nice pools / sun-bathing areas. It’s built in a sort of hour-glass shape, the top half being for quieter sun-bathing, and the lower half appealing more to families. There are plenty of sun-beds and complimentary beach towels. There’s also a spa, gym, bars, and a “theatre” style area for evening shows. Due to lockdown, most of these were closed, but we did get to sample the entertainment the first night, and it was good family fun. My only reservation is that the exterior design of the hotel is a little foreboding, but once within the hotel, all public areas & rooms are lovely. SERVICE: 4/5: On arrival, our check-in was welcoming and slick. However, we were allocated a room above the kids’ club and pool. Didn’t really appeal to us, so we asked to be moved. There was an eyebrow raised over this, however we were then allocated a room above the quiet pool which was much better for us. The greeters, servers & waiting staff at breakfast & dinner were all excellent - welcoming, smiley and very hard working. ROOMS: 4 ½ /5: This is Spanish 5*, so probably UK 4*, but really very nice. We had a nice view across the pool area, looking up to the mountains behind. The patio area was fabulous, with sun loungers for a spot of sheltered sun-bathing / relaxing. No traffic noise at all. Rooms are contemporary & spacious, freshly decorated, clean, with (blissfully quiet!) AC, TV, plenty of wardrobe space, well equipped bathroom with complimentary toiletries, modern fittings and walk-in shower. Pillows were a bit soft for me, but that’s just my opinion. BREAKFAST RESTAURANT: 4 ½ /5: Breakfast is buffet style – despite lockdown, they continued to offer a lovely choice of fresh fruit, smoked salmon, cereals, breads, pastries, cheese, cold meats, fresh pancakes etc. There were also hot servers with a good variety of cooked breakfast items. I’m gluten free, but even this was accommodated with a dedicated table of breads / muffins etc… much appreciated! DINNER RESTAURANT: We used the buffet most evenings. Again, despite lockdown, they managed to provide a good selection of starters, mains and desserts, though it did tail off a little at the end of our stay, just before they had to close the hotel completely. In the circumstances, they did very well. We also ate at the Italian 2 nights. The food and service there was a notch up, very enjoyable experience. SUMMARY: Lots of good features to the hotel and location, and we feel we probably didn’t even see it at its best during the coronavirus situation. All being well, we’ll be back to give them our custom again, and hopefully experience it in “normal” circumstances in future. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We visited this hotel in February 2020 for the first time, having previously spent many holidays in another hotel in Puerto Morgan. We certainly enjoyed our stay here, it is a very clean, modern hotel with excellent staff. The food is also excellent, being of good quality and quantity. We upgraded our room and enjoyed the extra space and good size balcony having emailed ahead of our visit to request a certain position, We do hope to return here in the not too distant future, depending of course on the Coronavirus. Birthday Treat

Hotel Excellent, Great Location,Quiet and easy walking distance into Puerto Mogán. Plenty of restaurants and shops to to visit and browse. Hotel Staff Excellent,Pool areas superb, both for adults( quiet areas and plenty of sun beds and shade) also separate children area for families again plenty of beds and shade. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Relaxing break in this lovely hotel

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely holiday in this hotel . We were lucky that the government restrictions only impacted us on our last two days. The hotel was airy, very clean and perfect in the uncertain circumstances which prevailed. It is a perfect distance from the port town for a couple of daily walks. The bedroom was spacious with every requirement and the bed was super- comfy. The buffet restaurant had a great variety of food for breakfast but understandably became more limited in our second week with most food having to be covered in plastic for hygiene reasons. There was a good variety of restaurants for dinner in the harbour area . The evening buffet food could sometimes be a bit cold and it was best to eat a little earlier for the best variety. We had a very good meal in the à la carte Italian restaurant on one evening. The pool bars were excellent for tasty lunches.The staff were superb and everyone did their best to manage the situation with cheerfulness and professionalism. The only downside was the evening entertainment which was a bit bland . We loved the quiet pool area which allowed us to read .I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for a comfortable and relaxing holiday and hope life will return to normal very soon for all the wonderful staff. Surreal experience

We arrived the day before lockdown, so we only managed to use the pools for 2 days before they shut down all activities by order of the government. Still, we managed - we were the absolute last guests to leave the hotel facilities. The last 5 days saw a significant drop in half-board food quality. After that the hotel only kept one dinner restaurant for the last days - which was a nice thing to do because we were so few and almost everything on the a la carte menu were available. So all in all - we paid an extreme over-price for a hotel room and WiFi, but I choose to give this place 5 stars since all of the staff did their utmost best to cater us and handle the situation. I would return when business are as usual, but not for the price paid. I understand force majeure and the corona pandemic more than ever. But it felt a bit unjust paying premium price and not even getting a sangria for free in compensation. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
