Overpriced, under-serviced

Jul 17th, 2019

The quality of everything was pretty poor. And do yourself a favor -- eat breakfast elsewhere! Bring your own towel and pillow if you want any quality in those articles. The staff at the desk was polite and friendly, no complaints there. But the waterside window in the room was a tiny slit in the corner of the room that was barely better than no window at all. An overall disappointing experience. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location, ok facility

Jul 12th, 2019

Great location right by the locks (we had a view) and lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance. Nothing special about the hotel. It’s showing its age, but still clean and has friendly staff. Fine if just looking for a place to sleep for a night or 2. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

Jul 9th, 2019

The few staff members were great. But I don't believe this hotel lives up to Ramada Standards. There appeared to be no help with the luggage. We were there for Engineers day. A lot of older people arrived the day before engineer’s day. They struggled with getting luggage carts through multiple doors that should have been automatic. The sidewalk was high at the doors but sloped to ramp down all the way out to the road. Making for a long trek for many seniors from the parking lot to the foot of the ramp all the way back to double doors that were difficult to hold open and get the luggage carts through. Then you make a hard left to the elevator through another set of double doors going around a pop machine to get to the elevator. It was a warm day and the elevators were very hot. Once we reached out floor, the halls weren't air conditioned either. I must say, the room was nice and cool. After unpacking I went for Ice. The only ice machine throughout 8 floors was in the first floor stairwell on the parking lot side. Those above the 4th floor had to take two elevators across the entire hotel to get ice. Our room had an angled ceiling with four large windows overlooking Main Street. The windows were so fogged and dirty you could hardly see outside. Everything else in the room was dated and worn. In the Bathroom, there was no handheld shower as was in the motel we stayed in the night before. The tub had no anti slip in the bottom or waist high grab bar for support. The tub was unbearably slippery. The vent fan didn't work to vent the steam. The Coffee maker in the bathroom didn’t have a plug near it. Our motel in Mackinac city even had a mini fridge and microwave. This room did not. On the morning of Engineers day we all enjoyed a complimentary breakfast buffet, only the only drink choices were ice water of coffee. People with children couldn't even get them milk. The main floor bathrooms were HOT! On the Positive side, our bed was very comfortable and the walls are well soundproofed making for peace and quiet. All in all, I believe this hotel has a long way to go to be what a Ramada should be! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Location Awesome-Stay So-so

Jul 7th, 2019

We checked in very late on 7/3/19 to a crew who was haggard from the day and complaining profusely. That typically indicates under-staffing to me. That was in fact the case. Complimentary breakfast my wife & I tried once and that was that for a three day stay. Service for the breakfast buffet was poor And food so-so I am sorry to report. I don’t typically complain and I understand staffing issues but this was worse than just average problems. The second day there was no service in our room and after 2 calls we finally got towels with multiple apologies to which we replied it was okay. That’s when we were told they were still trying to service rooms after 8 pm - that’s simply not being staffed properly for a Holiday. That in combination with air conditioning that couldn’t keep up with the heat and to me it seemed overpriced for what you get. One thing I will say - location, location, location! Being right there at the Locks was awesome - 8 freighters in two days was incredible. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We won’t be back!

Jul 6th, 2019

The fact that check in is 3:00pm and our room wasn’t available until 5:00pm was disappointing to say the least! And that’s just the beginning. I don’t recommend the free breakfast buffet at all. It was probably one of the worst I’ve ever seen!! I didn’t even eat from it! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
