Despite the concerns about travel during the pandemic , this hotel felt the safest haven with its excellent safety protocols regarding social distancing, cleanliness and housekeeping standards. The entire lobby and public areas were rearranged for social distancing yet available for guests to enjoy. With 4 elevators with limited capacity (2 persons), there was never an issue about waiting. Furthermore, with visible signage throughout the hotel, other guests were very respectful about the Covid 19 protocols. The rooms were fresh and clean with towels and coffee condiments wrapped in plastic bags to prevent contamination. Furthermore, we never had concerns about hotel staff entering our room since housekeeping service was limited, which was reassuring. The room was maintained well without any flaws. Lastly, the spirit and dedication of the entire hotel staff was truly admirable. Beneath their masks, we felt their smiles and care for guests. Kari at the front desk and Ricardo in the kitchen as well as the two chefs serving guests during weekend are true Rockstars and deserve recognition for their commitment to serve and care for thier guests. Friendly staff

Jul 5th, 2020

We stopped here for two nights on the way to Gatlinburg. I dont feel this Renaissance is up to Renaissance standards. The rooms are small, hotel is a little outdated, you can't charge something in the Renaissance gift shop to your room, no housekeeping and you have to wear a mandatory mask every where in the hotel. Now I know housekeeping and masks is a state mandate thing but it just drives me crazy. Maybe list on the website that you can't eat at hotel, must wear a mask and you aren't going to get you room cleaned while here. Also, I feel like I spent most of my time in the hotel waiting on an elevator! With all that being said, the staff is truly amazing! Definitely up to Renaissance standards with their "delighted to serve " attitudes! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Disappointing, didn't meet minimum standards of service or courtesy.

Jul 5th, 2020

Met at check-in by young man who got the minimum job done, but was rude and snarky in the process. Hopefully just one bad egg, right? The young man who was both our bellboy and check-in valet was polite and helpful, (and the youngest staff member we encountered). Awoke first morning at 6:30 to find only one coffee and no body wash in room. Over course of next hour and half, called front desk and housekeeping three times with no answer, let final call to housekeeping ring until someone answered, which front desk employee eventually did. Upon explaining only one coffee, he replied, "ok", and no body wash, again he replied "ok" and "so you want one coffee and a body wash?" I requested one body wash and three coffees, and specified this was to assure we'd have coffee tomorrow. "OK", he said. Which prompted me to explain that I'd called multiple times with no answer, we didn't have the basics, and I didn't think that was ok, and asked him to notify the housekeeping manager for our room. Short while later, employee arrived with eight coffees and six body washes, and in snarky tone asked "if there was anything else she could bring me?" No, thank you. "more coffee?", no, "more body wash?" No, I asked for one body wash and three coffees. "More soap? More shampoo? Extra towels?" She went on, and asked if I was sure there wasn't anything else I needed? The snarky, discourteous attitudes were common amongst the staff we encountered. Unfortunate. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Much better choices downtown

Jun 4th, 2020

Much better choices available in Asheville. Service was icy cold. Rooms small. On downtown fringe, not as well located as Kimpton, AC, or Aloft as well as others. No elite recognition whatsoever if you are part of the Marriott program and no room upgrades provided. What really was about the worst customer service I've seen is after 5 days staying here and no services provided (even though Asheville is in phase 2 opening, they do not clean your room at all, no bars or restaurants open in hotel, nothing, not even coffee or water provided in the rooms unless you ask), they refused to extend our checkout without charging us more. When I objected saying that we did not receive all the services we would normally receive, the manager said "but you paid less for this stay". Not true -- we used points and paid a hefty rate, and our friends paid $149/night All I requested was an exception to what we normally receive as Marriott platinum members, and even after asking for the hotel manager, he refused to make any accommodation. Very sad, particularly considering the hotel was less than 30% full and it would have cost them nothing to make one small exception so we would not have to hang out in the lobby until our evening flight. As a Marriott frequent guest, this hotel is the example of the huge disparity in how you are treated and what benefits you are offered as a loyal elite member. Some of their hotels are great, and some, like this one, provide no benefits and no recognition of frequent guests. I could have stayed at a really nice hotel located more in the downtown center and had a far more enjoyable stay for about the same price. Instead, the Renaissance delivered 1-star service for a 4-star price. Only things nice about this stay -- the doorman was pleasant and helpful, not the front desk staff. Nice indoor pool. Do I need to say more

Apr 10th, 2020

I have a home nearby. The Renaissance did this during the coronovirus stay at home. All of the hotel rooms were dark except for the ones that they lit up to make a heart. What a beautiful idea during such a challenging time for so many. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
