Avoid, avoid, avoid!

Dec 31st, 2019

DO NOT STAY HERE! I can not emphasize this enough. I regularly stay at Marriott properties and I would not say this about any other hotel. This place should not be open to guests. It is not currently a hotel, rather a noisy construction site and I question whether it is even safe for guests or staff. Let me explain: there is a large open atrium in the center of this hotel with rooms facing this courtyard. This ENTIRE area was covered in tarp (see photo) while a crew jack hammered during daylight hours. The check-in area was moved to a temporary stand, directly adjacent to the jack-hammering. The poor staff, who were not wearing ear protection, were expected to work in an environment where you could not actually hold a conversation without yelling (and still could barely communicate). It was by far the most stressful check-in experience I have ever experienced and the noise was relentless and seemed to be far louder than is safe. Hours later my ears were still ringing -- exposure to noise at levels exceeding 85db can damage ears permanently. To be honest, I should have just turned around and left at that point, but I couldn't even face the stressful conversation with the staff explaining this because it was near impossible to make yourself heard above the jack-hammering. I figured that at least in my room it would be quiet -- but no! The noise could still be heard clearly in the rooms. But that's not all! When I got out of the elevator to find my room I encountered two staff members on the floor I was staying in, with masks covering their faces because of the dust. Yep, the staff were taking safety precautions, but paying customers were expected to just walk through it! There was a fine layer of dust covering everything (see photo). In addition there was a bag of trash left just outside my room. And to cap it all, I asked twice, once through the Bonvoy app and once at check-out, leaving my phone number for a manager to call me to discuss this disappointing and stressful experience. I was assured that they would but I didn't hear from anyone. (I was also told that the construction was noted on the website, but I couldn't find it even though I looked extensively and there was no mention of it when I booked through the Bonvoy app, no one emailed me after my reservation and told me there was construction and no one called me and warned me). Staff at Renaissance Charlotte Suites Hotel, instead of leaving a standard reply to this, perhaps you could actually follow up and call me, as promised. You need to close your hotel until it's actually ready for guests. Charging a regular rate to stay in a noisy construction site is not appropriate or fair. The condition of your hotel is shocking and not what is expected of a Renaissance property. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Bitterly disappointed - building site!

Dec 22nd, 2019

The hotel is a building site and the hotel does not specify this anywhere. We booked this hotel on the premise that we could eat in the gorgeous advertised dining areas and relax in the bar. What we arrived to was nothing short of shambolic. Please nose the picture I have attached - this is an accurate representation of the hotel lobby and dining area that is advertised on their website. If this hotel had any decency they would offer refunds of compensation to us and stop replying to these messages with the same copied and pasted PR message. Do not stay here. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Do not stay here. Terrible hotel

Dec 20th, 2019

I booked this Dec 19. I thought Renaissance would be nice. Cruddy looking front entrance is taped off with yellow police tape. You have to come in the Convention Center entrance and walk through a maze. The entire lobby is under construction. It's a terrible hotel. The tv wasn't working. I was cold in my room. I turned the heat up, and was still cold. I went to concierge / executive lounge in the evening and the food was not good. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Don’t Stay Here

Dec 18th, 2019

Regardless of the ongoing renovation, the rooms are very worn. AC did not work, the filter/fan is covered in dust and dirt, the furniture is very antiquated and toilet barely flushed. I called down several times to the front desk and no one answers. You get forwarded to the Marriot customer service number - not good and certainly not the service I expect to pay for being a regular Bonvoy business customer. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very disappointing stay

Dec 12th, 2019

As a platinum Marriott Rewards member, I am very loyal to Marriott's brands and have great experiences at the vast majority of properties at which I stay, unfortunately this was not the case, at this hotel. The check-in process was ridiculously long (note other recent reviews), and when I finally got my key, I was given a room that had another guest already staying in it! I then went to the concierge lounge for some food to find only 3 pieces of cheese on a plate (nothing else available). The internet service was spotty my entire stay, very slow and dropping often, even with the upgraded elite member service. Finally, my bill was incorrect and charged to someone else's credit card (nice to get a "free room", but my company needs me to submit my expenses to match my itinerary, and it still has not been resolved).
