Pleased with stay

Apr 17th, 2019

Maybe the fact that the first upgrade I've received since the merger with SPG was at this facility colors my review. I'm titanium elite and was upgraded to a Revier suite which overlooked the river. Nice room and comfortable. 3 TV's was a bit overkill though. Staff was friendly. Lounge gets pretty crowded for breakfast. "Rooftop" bar on the 3rd floor was nice. Good service and a nice Manhattan. Location was great. Although there is not much of a view (river is not really that exciting). Note too that the property is beginning to get a bit tired. Settee had stains on it and shower floor grout is a little gross. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Fantastic hotel stay

This is an incredible hotel. The staff is amazing, especially the front desk staff. Mahogeney and Levi went above and beyond by helping me with my phone. They were super friendly and helpful. The room had an amazing view and the bedding was superb. We had drinks at the rooftop bar and the bartender even mixed a custom drink for me. I will, if given the chance, stay here again. We had a wonderful stay at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel. The room was very pleasant and comfortable, food and service in the Club Lounge was outstanding. Every one of the hotel employees which we had contact with was extremely pleasant and friendly as well as always being very helpful. I recommend this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Security issues

Apr 7th, 2019

I had a horrible experience at this hotel. My bag was snatched in the HOTEL LOBBY. Passport, all other ID, all credit cards, eyeglasses, and much more GONE- literally taken in a flash from right under my nose. This was at 8:30 in the evening when the lobby was not crowded with people - yet the hotel gaslighted me and claimed there was “no evidence” of anything on their tapes. I was working at a lobby computer not 20 feet from the front entrance - yet no security camera or person saw *anything?? * Meanwhile TWO other people in my group were similarly robbed in the lobby the night before - their wallets were lifted while they were drinking at the lobby bar!!!!! Three people out of the same group of 300 in two days??? Something tells me this is not an unusual occurrence at this location!!! Yet there are ZERO alerts anywhere at this hotel about taking any precautions whatsoever. In fact he hotel staff’s reaction to these events seemed COMPLETELY BLASÉ!!! (Lots of “this is a very transient location” — a small protected hotel lobby with at least two staff stationed at the entrance??— They showed concern about ONE thing - that they not be “held responsible.” Here is what they AND MARRIOTT are “responsible” for: KNOWING there is this problem (hotel management were fully aware of all three incidents this week as soon as they happened) — and presumably MANY other similar prior incidents —- although of course they *refused to say* — and * not installing MORE cameras or hiring more security personnel to be able to address these problems and protect the safety of their guests * it ALMOST seems like *someone* DOESNT WANT to fix this problem - why would that be??? I can only imagine that with 3 incidents among ONE conference group in two days - how many more there have been. The person/people who carried out these thefts were PROFESSIONALS. Why is the management of this hotel enabling those professionals and refusing to do more to stop these incidents from occurring? And again — How can it be that on an evening with FEW people in the lobby - a FIVE MINUTE known time frame for when the theft occurred— and a DESCRIPTION of the likely perpetrator— that hotel “security” could “not find any evidence”?? Something stinks at the Renaissance Downtown Chicago Marriott. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

First Rate Hotel

I had a great stay at the Downtown Renaissance for a convention. The location is perfect. If you take the Orange Train in from Midway, the hotel is right at the State/Lake stop. The hotel is right on the river in the midst of great restaurants. It is also on State Street where there is excellent shopping. The staff was friendly and the room was clean comfortable.
