Not great, would not return

The staff is very nice, the towels were good. The room is very dark (and I was in a newly refurbished room) and the worst part is I could easily hear the person next door. I heard every cough and their alarm clock. I will not stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not up to par

Only good thing about this hotel stay was the staff was efficient and friendly. Our first room had 2 Queen size beds and literally no room for two people unless you were lying on bed. No hooks in the bathroom for towels. Poor poor lighting. Couldn’t see to unpack. We were given an upgrade that had more room, but it was still very dark. The barn door type bathroom had a big issue. It stuck in the closed position and I couldn’t get out. The heat couldn’t be controlled too hot or too cold. Newly renovated but poorly. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice Looking Room BUT

We stayed at the Renaissance for a family affair. To be blunt, we were very dissatisfied with our newly remodeled room. The hotel and the room did have a few positives - the lobby was attractive, welcoming, well lit and comfortable with many comfortable chairs. The reason for my last 2 points will become apparent when you read my room comments. The room itself was attractive in a pseudo Japanese style. Now for the negatives - 1) The room was really dark with no overhead lights and almost no lights on the walls. There was hardly enough light to read by. I have a light meter in my cell phone and it measured a light level in the room of 12 lux. Anyone who knows about lighting requirements knows that this was a very low light level. 2) There was only one chair in the room. Where was the second person in the room supposed to sit - on the floor, on the toilet or lie on the bed. When my wife was using the single chair in the room to watch TV and I wanted to read, I was forced to either lie in bed or move to the lobby. Neither was a good solution but most of the time I went to the lobby as the chairs in the lobby were more comfortable than lying in bed. 3) The door to the bathroom was not a standard opening door but a sliding door. The problem was that the sliding door did not stay shut. It was really exciting for the person who was using the toilet to have the toilet door wide open. It was equally exciting for the person outside of the toilet. 4) I needed to do a bit of work during out stay. The desk was totally inadequate. It was narrow and dark. If I was a businessman trying to do real work, it would be impossible to do any work at the desk. 5) We had to remind the maid that when the tea caddy in the room was out of tea, she should refill it. Needless to say, we do not plan to ever go back to this or any Renaissance hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A very good choice if you are attending an event on the North Shore. The breakfast buffet is pretty good. You can get the full buffet or the continental. Rooms have been redone and are good sized. Gym area is a great. Very large for a hotel. Pool and hot tub are great. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Has room to improve

We selected this hotel due to the proximity to the event we were attending. When we arrived we noticed a "hard rock hotel" boutique vibe. Purple, silver and flashy. The desk staff was friendly and efficient everytime was interacted with them. The bar was good. The bartender can make a decent drink and the servers were helpful. The hotel restaurant had a great breakfast buffet that was reasonably priced....and would make you an omlet when you had the buffet....real food for breakfast!! The remodled room, sticking with the funky vibe, but toned down. I liked the look of the room. The closet area is great. Beds comfy. We had 2 queen beds. The room is too small for more than 2 people, actually it would be miserable with 2cadults and 2 teens if you are there for more than one night or if you plan to spend time in the room when you are where to sit other than the bed. With 2 beds, a desk, bench, night stand there was no room for a side chair, only the desk chair. They encourage you to reuse towels, but only provide one small hook for towles, yet the room is set up for 4 adults. Suggest adding more hooks or towel bars to solve this. The shower head is huge....but slow flow was disappointing. The HVAC is loud. The Refrigerator was a nice addition, but it's hard to use in the cabinet that's too small. But most annoying to me is I had the ability via an ap to state I needed a feather free room. I recieved a text twice asking how I liked the room (annoying to me, I'm not going to text with an unknown). But my room wasn't feather free....I had to call and wait for the pillows and bedding to be changed. I had hoped by using the ap, and indicating this up front, having someone text me about the room that my request would have been cared for before I arrive, otherwise why ask? If you want to wow your guests please pay attention to guest comments prior to their arrival. After the bedding was changed I have to say they had the best non feather pillows for a hotel. I will probably select a different hotel next time. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
