Great Locations, Rooms Too Hot

Aug 16th, 2019

This hotel has a fantastic location (right downtown) and large rooms/bathrooms but otherwise has very little going for it. The room was really hot and could not be turned down. The frustrating thing was that the hallways were very cool. We ended up propping our door open with a suitcase anytime we were in the room just to get a little colder air in there. It was almost impossible to sleep. In the winter this might be a great hotel to stay at, assuming they don’t have the same problem with the heating system. The room was quite large (I believe we were in a junior suite as we were traveling with a teenager who slept on a rollaway bed). The bathroom and shower were very nice and fully stocked with toiletries. The room also had a safe and fridge. The breakfast is actually served in a Mexican restaurant attached to the hotel. It was kind of strange but the selection was decent. If you are used to staying at Marriott properties, this is definitely more like a Courtyard or Fairfield property than a Renaissance. Not worth the price even with the location. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good hotel, but needs to do more for loyal Marriott patrons

Aug 15th, 2019

When we arrived, I was impressed by the convenient location near the train station, the attractive exterior, and the restaurant, which has sidewalk tables. It turns out location is one of the best points. The receptionist having noted that I am a Platinum member apologetically explained, “we’re a small hotel and don’t have an executive lounge” as she handed us two vouchers for breakfast (excluding our 7-year-old son). This was annoying. We paid less at the Renaissance in Zurich and had full lounge benefits and received a room upgrade. This hotel does have a small lounge where all guests have access to vending machines where you can by wine and snacks. What they should do for elite members who qualify for lounge access is offer a significant credit for the vending machines and extend breakfast to children free of charge. Otherwise, they should consider calling themselves Courtyard rather than Renaissance. Also, the carpet in the hall was badly worn and needs to be replaced. There were a few problems in the room. The coffee maker is difficult to use if you are not familiar with it. Even the chain lock on the door is nonstandard and difficult to work. The room was small. My wife was disappointed that there was no bathrobe in the closet. The staff were very nice and willing to help, but this is not a great stay if you expect Platinum benefits. This hotel is by far the sparest Renaissance hotel I have ever stayed at. Despite the fancy facade, it is more like a Courtyard than a Renaissance. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hot stuffy rooms

Aug 8th, 2019

As soon as we walked in our room, it was hot and stuffy, called down to the front desk and complained about the AC, there is no temperature control and that it was as good as it was going to get. Obviously they managed to engineer the halls and other areas to cool down ok.. but missed on how to AC the rooms. So if you want an AC room probably should stay somewhere else, as the manager suggested in a previous review. WIFi service is spotty and very poor. Hotel is in a good location and as a platinum member you get free breakfast. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location

Aug 8th, 2019

Renaissance was great for it's complimentary breakfast (chosen as part of the Platinum Marriott rewards). Location was great and in ease of walking distance to the water and plenty of bars and restaurants. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and all spoke English. My reason for 4 instead of 5 stars would be due to the air conditioning being terrible in the room. It was extremely hot at night and not what we were looking for on vacation! Not many late night eat places, so make sure to eat early. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not a great hotel if you are a Premium / Titanium Marriott member and looking for a greater services

Aug 2nd, 2019

The front office manager needs communication training to deal with premium customers. Lost hope with Marriott brand. This manager ignored all my preferences and additional comments put in my reservation. He started blaming Marriott loyalty program and how he chose to ignore there comments they put in place while making the reservations. The stay was terrible and I wouldn't recommend this property for anyone with higher status. Please find other properties where you are treated fair and squire. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
