Nice stay in Phoenix's evolving downtown

Aug 23rd, 2019

Myself and three friends were in town for three nights to attend a concert at the nearby Comerica Theatre. We selected this hotel to use some of my Marriott points. Overall stay was satisfactory (not in a mediocre way) with ups and downs. First the positives: Lobby and public spaces look very sharp. Bar had a nice area to spend some time having a few drinks. Nice food menu as well. Location is great for our purposes and as I hadn't visited Phoenix in 15+ years, I was surprised by the emerging pedestrian friendly downtown. Front Desk staff was solid and friendly. Two negatives Parking / Valet staff is as good as useless and make for a very negative first impression. They sit and virtually ignore you until you demand attention. Call down for a car -- oh we were sitting over here and didn't see it on the display. Scan your tag (10 feet aware from the monitor), oh yeah, well we have 10 minutes before we have to do anything. (OK, rant off). Came back from the concert right at 11P, bar was closing. Bartender was direct to the point of rudeness. Not welcoming, we went across the street -- that she suggested with an outstretched arm and finger. There were at least three tables of Renaissance guests. Physical Facility -- I'm tall 6'5" and there was a stairwell sign overhead just outside my room that I hit /scrapped my head every other time I left the room. Approaching the window there was a low ceiling and I hit my head the first time. But generally a good place to stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Service makes the difference

Aug 19th, 2019

Writing this review after completing my 3rd stay at this property in 2019. All things considered, I would recommend this hotel on the basis of the staff and above-and-beyond service. Long story short, we had a number of things go wrong during our stay and each time the staff were on top of the ‘fixes’ even when the problem had nothing to do with the hotel itself (e.g. car trouble). I really appreciate Michaela, Bryce, and the rest of the staff here. They really do make a difference. The hotel itself is attractive and well-maintained in the common areas. Other positives; great bar, interesting restaurant, amongst the best member lounges I’ve experienced in the Marriott family, outstanding gym (for a hotel) The rooms are comfortable enough but need a refresh (underway I believe) for this hotel to be truly considered amongst the upscale tier. Worth A Repeat Stay

Aug 6th, 2019

My husband & I enjoyed our 5 night stay. The hotel is close to the rail system & within walking distance to restaurants & other sights. The staff was friendly. The hotel was clean & nicely decorated. There was live entertainment & a decent bar. The pool was okay...not as updated as we expected but decent. The whole vibe was relaxing & inviting. I’d stay there again in a heartbeat. We went to Phoenix for a Diamondbacks game and stayed at the Renaissance. This is an older hotel but it is beautiful!! Great downtown location near Chase field and Talking Stick Arena. Tons of great restaurants too. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Really great value for a nice downtown hotel

Aug 4th, 2019

This hotel is a great value, it's located downtown and the staff and rooms are great, very nice and clean. The only issue we had was there was a hammering from some sort of heavy repair work that started about nine in the morning, and then while I was in the shower the water quit. Luckily it was right at the end of my shower so it didn't cause any issues other than having to use mouthwash to brush my teeth. The staff were great about it however, they knocked some of the price off my bill which I though was fair. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
