I was grabbing drinks at the heights with a group of work friends last Friday. As we were waiting to be picked up, I couldn’t help but be pleased with the conversation I was having with one of the valet workers named Jake Roman. He was extremely friendly, helpful, and engaging with the entire group. Love speaking with workers with that kind of energy! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Disappointed in Marriott hospitality standard
May 13th, 2019
So, fairly high-end facility, though shows its age here and there. What I'd expect in a downtown hotel: valet-only parking ($22 a night), no breakfast, pricey food establishments, and lots of conference attendee traffic. But along with that, I'd also expect a gracious, professional staff, and a very high standard of quality in hotel hospitality, and some presence of career hoteliers. Nope...nada. The staff had the feel of college kids who take a low-paying job because the hotel can't retain more mature staff. When I checked in, I received all the hospitality one might expect purchasing a coffee at a convenience store. But this went on, and on, and on during our whole stay of four days. I don't blame the kids, but there lack of training and lack of behavioral standards. They just aren't mature enough to be maturely gracious. Besides the untrained staff, lack of standards showed itself in: report of no cups in the workout room not being addressed after two days (how hard is that?); room service consisting in someone dropping off a bag (for $5 surcharge) of McDonald's take out-like packaging of food (and the bill had the temerity to designate this as "in room dining"); valet staff acting impatiently while we gathered our belongings for check in; staff do not greet with gracious smiles whenever encountering them (the very basics of hotel hospitality), and respond "no problem" when thanking them (as if they only helped you because it didn't bother them). Our room had the rooftop bar right above, and we could hear chairs scraping the floor until the wee hours. The pipes or whatever in the walls incessantly creek, either heating or cooling all night long. And the WIFI...oh the WIFI...it was *horrendous*. So much so that "free wi-fi" is at best misleading, and at worst a lie. USELESS!! Can't even download email or webpages a good portion of the time. If you have to work remotely...forget it. So, essentially, wifi is NOT free, you have to pay $10 a night. I suggest going to the local Starbucks a couple of blocks down if a weekday, or even better, the Egg City cafe 3 blocks south--killer wifi you can actually work on. Yes, there are plusses: great HD TV and able to use your own Netfilx accounts, you tube, etc. Great views through generous windows from the upper floors of the Maumee river and Toledo lights. The heating and cooling is very responsive, and the bed was great, shower was great. Not immaculately clean, as it does show its age. Room had very little storage, however, only 1 drawer plus nightstands for cloths (but there is a closet). Maybe would stay here again, but would GLADLY spend $40 a night more for a truly 4-star, professional establishment. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Nice hotel but rate was not what they told us.
May 2nd, 2019
We stayed 4/25/19 (came in late, around 10:00 pm) and left on 4/28/19. We booked over the phone. We were told we were getting a corner room and what the rates were. We did not get a corner room which isn’t a big deal to me (stayed in room 1112). They said Saturday’s rate would be $230. When we left they charged us $514 just for Saturday and not $230! They are now saying that was the rate for Saturday because they were busy. If that was the case they should have said that when I booked the room on the 25th. They also had our email address wrong so we did not get a confirmation. It’s a nice hotel and in a great location but I am not a fan of price changes without being told until afterwards. Weekend Stay in Toledo
Apr 24th, 2019
We stayed here for a wedding and had a great experience! The hotel price was very reasonable, considering the location and quality of the hotel. The hotel style is very sleek, and we were impressed with the comfort of the rooms. We enjoyed the rooftop bar, the fitness center and on-site restaurant. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
