Expensive Dog fee
Oct 3rd, 2020
We arrived after a long day of driving and the front desk person was very nice. I was unpleasantly surprised when she told me there was a $100 fee that was going to be charged to my credit card because we had a dog with us. $46 of it would be refunded to us if our dog didn't do any damage so the net dog fee is $54 for a one night stay. We selected this hotel because it was dog friendly and I specifically mentioned we had a dog traveling with us when I booked it and no one mentioned a "dog fee." The night before, we stayed at an A-Loft in Wichita that was also dog friendly and had no pet fee. The hotel room was clean and in good order. However, around 11:00pm, the person in the room above us must have just come in and we very clearly heard every move he made which woke us up and it was impossible to get back to sleep until he went to bed. Also, there is a lot of interstate noise as this hotel is very close to the interstate. All in all, if I were to come through Albuquerque again, I would look for a different dog friendly hotel TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Residence to the rescue!

We booked this hotel after cancelling the 2nd night at another Marriott hotel in Albuquerque that was a nightmare ( but, that's another story). After leaving the first hotel we had the...how do you say...."hibbee gibbees" LOL. We wanted a shower, a place to burn our clothes, and a place to wash our bedding. All except for having a place to burn our clothes, we were EXTREMELY ( EXTREMALMENTE) happy with this hotel. We were on a trip and only reserved rooms in Marriott hotels because of their "supposed" consistent standards. For the most part the standard of cleanliness and hospitality was consistent and that is to include this wonderful hotel. I can walk into a room, walk straight to the bathroom and tell whether the staff took care to do their jobs conscientiously. I appreciate when they do and try to reward them one way or another. The suite we were given was clean and felt like home. I've heard people say they hate staying in hotels and I can only imagine that is because they chose the wrong one or was stuck because of their budget, which happens. Hotels such as this Residence Inn will definitely change their minds. We were so relaxed here after a long drive. We slept like baby kittens. To conclude fellow travellers, I'll let the pictures do the talking. If you can help it stay home. If you must travel, stay safe. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The hotel is located near the interstate. The check in was quick and easy. The front desk clerk was nice. She explained how the free breakfast program worked at this time and gave me my key. The room was clean and well stocked. The noise level was very low. I was a little worried about the location because it appeared to me that there might be a lot of long term people staying. Cars in the parking lot were old and several sketchy people were hanging out in the parking lot. Upon my return from dinner those people had left and were no longer hanging out in the parking lot. Breakfast was very simple the next morning. There was a sheet to order off and the breakfast clerk made my meal to go. The food was good. Other than the area this hotel is located it is definitely worth staying at in the future. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Arrived 6:00 pm. Room ready. #812. All vehicles park in front. You must walk to your room whether located near the front or all the way towards the back. This “inn” is located immediately next to Interstate 40, so if your room is towards the back ... you will hear Interstate noises all night. Large living area. Decent kitchen. First issue was the smell. Musty. Mildewy. Second issue was the spiders. On bed. On counter. In tub. Third issue was the cleanliness. Just not clean. Kitchen sink smelled like dead fish. Our room had double patio glass doors right next to one of the 2 beds. These doors were not and could not be shut properly. There was a steel bar keeping them closed. But there was an area of about 1/4” where hot air from outside was pouring in. And the interstate sounded like it was 2 feet away, i.e., no sound barrier from glass. The AC was set at 69. But it was at least a muggy 76 in the room. It was obvious (but not to the hotel evidently) that the AC was having trouble keeping the area cool due to the hot air leakage from glass patio doors. It was a difficult decision, but after driving 19 hours we decided we were going to stay. We had already schlupped our stuff 50 yards from the car. I had used Marriott reward points so we were staying. Another 20 hour drive the next day. Needed sleep. I always travel with a HEPA air cleaner so we started that up right away. We also travel with net tents (like they use in Africa) so broke those out to combat the possibility of spiders in our beds at night. We also travel with extra sheets ... so got those out. Used their sheets like a mat on the floor so our bare feet didn’t have to touch the disgustingly dirty brown carpet. Got out the wipes. Cleaned everything down. Ate the dinner we brought with us. Went to bed in our net tents. Looking forward to a good nights sleep .... Traffic much noiser than anticipated. Woke a few times. However, despite our need to sleep in before another long day of driving ... with check out at Noon .... at 9:00 AM we were woken up by power washing. Water coming into the room under the door. Water hitting the door and windows at a high force. Someone was pressure washing. So much for that deserved sleeping in. We turned on the lights. Killed the spiders we saw ... got ready. Packed up and opened the door. Water, dirt piled up. Leaves and mud. All piled up at our door. When I yelled (because he was standing 30 feet away) at the guy about how we were supposed to get our without our stuff getting wet ... water was dripping profusely from the 2nd floor over our entry door.... he ignored me. Called the front desk and was informed that “this is routine maintenance”. “is there anything else I can help you with?” I told her the guy wasn’t allowing us to exit. She said she would get a manager. Nothing for 5 minutes. Opened the door a second time. Asked the guy again. He told me “you can’t leave right now”. Called the front desk again. Was told the same thing. Waited a few minutes. Opened the door again ... this time the guy told me to “kiss my ass lady!” Now I am upset. Not mad. Scared. I can’t best a man even on a good day. If he is angry about customers asking him to move so we can leave ... what happens when I get closer to him? I have my child with me. There is one way out. He’s blocking it. So I say .... can you say that again so I can get you on video? And he yells it again to “Kiss My ass lady”. I call the front desk for a 4th time. Advise her of what is occurring. She says a manager coming (again). I tell her their employer is cursing at us for wanting to leave. I open the door. These units are so close together it is a gauntlet to get out. From #812 there is one 3’ wide sidewalk. Between units. That is the only way to exit. And we need to travel quit a distance to reach the car. The way appears clear. But ... the profanity yelling employee has left his heavy equipment on the 3’ wide sidewalk blocking our passage. No impasse. I turn around and go back to the room. Call the front desk again. Advise her of what’s transpiring. Go back outside. Equipment has been moved by the now appearing manager. We walk by with our rolling luggage and other items. As we go by I ask him where he says we were comped for the stay. I said it’s not enough. People need to know. Driving 3200 miles. Need a friendly stay. Not even worth a free night. Not up to Marriott Standards

The staff was wonderful but the room was not! Front desk clerks were extremely helpful and accommodating. The mattress I “slept” on had a huge indent in the center. I’m not kidding, it sagged are least 8 inches. I could feel the springs and they made noise every time I moved! The room was also dirty , check out what I found.... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
