The sleeping portion of the room was spacious and clean and the rates are very reasonable. That said there are some issues here that need to be addressed. This is an original format RI with 8 house buildings surrounding a main lobby building. The grounds were very unkempt, leaves were everywhere to include the door wells of the first floor apartments. External maintenance seems delayed or deferred. While the living area of our apartment was as described, the kitchen area was dirty and I would not have used it- there was a film on the glasswear and several bugs (not roaches) in the unswept corners. Service was polite. I would stay here overnight as we did but would think twice about a longer term situation. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Use this hotel when visiting the area

Nov 9th, 2019

My wife, daughter and I stayed at this hotel while visiting a local college (saint Mary's). The check in was simple and quick and the person staffing the front desk was GREAT. The room we were given was exactly what we asked for. It was clean and no issues were noted. We went to check out and have breakfast the next morning and I was surprised that the front desk clerk was the same one that checked us in (9pm the previous evening) but was even more surprising was the fact that he remembered my first name (Wow). To me that says...service... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Hotel

Nov 4th, 2019

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here over the weekend! We went to the Notre Dame football game on Saturday and the free shuttle to campus was an added benefit and the shuttle driver was very sociable and kind. The room itself was very clean, quiet and welcoming, my husband travels a lot for work and always stays at Marriott properties and he said "I wish all my Residence Inns looked like this." We did not attend the complimentary breakfast, but it was very crowded both days we were there and I thought the basketball court and playground was great for kids. I would recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to Notre Dame or South Bend, we would 100% stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

5 Star Property

Nov 3rd, 2019

My wife and I stayed here for one night when we came up for a football game and couldn’t have been happier with our stay. We requested an early check in and our room was ready when we arrived at 1130 am. Check in was quick and the room was clean, comfortable and quiet. It was an easy walk to campus and they even run a free shuttle before and after games. All of the staff we encountered went out of their way to ask if we needed anything and to make sure we were enjoying our stay. Definitely will stay here again when in town. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Lots of Minuses very few Pluses

Oct 22nd, 2019

Room was difficult to get to. There were 3 stairs required to get to the room even though it was a first floor room. I'm disabled so this was a challenge. The room was dirty when we arrived. It had been cleaned by a housekeeper but it was still dirty. My wife and I cleaned the room together and it took us about 15 minutes. There was a large dead bug on the ceiling by the bed. The next morning there was another of the same bug but it was alive crawling across the edge of the ceiling. We had requested extra towels and extra feather pillows in our reservation. We were given 0 extra towels and 0 extra pillows. My wife and I had a total of 2 bath towels for 2 nights. I took 3 showers while we were there and used the same wet towel for each one. Disgusting! The bed was very hard. When we went to bed it felt like we we were sleeping on a piece of plywood. There were no extra plugs or USB changers next to the bed. I had to unplug the clock so I could plug in the extension cord I travel with. When I plugged the clock back into the extension cord, it had lost the time because the hotel hadn't changed the backup battery when it died. Accommodate people when they make requests in their reservations. If you are not going to do it, you should not specifically ask people if they want extra towels or extra pillows. The ceiling of the bathroom was stained because it looked like the bathroom in the room above had been leaking into this bathroom. The sofa was uncomfortable. In the middle of it, you sank too far down into it. On the end of it, it felt like you were sitting on a piece of wood. Very weird. On the second day neither of our keys worked so my wife had to walk up to the office to get new keys while I stayed by the door with our bags. There was a big sticky spot right outside our door on the grounds that was there during our entire visit. The door to our unit must have been busted in at some point. The secondary locking mechanism that keeps the door from opening more than a couple inches was hanging on the wall and definitely would not have stopped the door from opening at all. The refrigerator worked, the TV worked and the shower worked. All in all, this hotel is run down and I don't think I would stay there again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
