Many flaws other than location.

Don't let the pictures fool you, the rooms at this older Resience Inn might have had a little new decor, but are not renovated other than having newer appliances in the kitchen. The rooms are basic RI. This hotel is in an excellent location near high end restaurants. It is not for budget eaters. Parking, as many have said, is cramped and there were cars and people who "didn't belong there". One family appeared to be living out of their car. Contractors hanging out with their trucks, smoking, and one car illegally blocking the walkway. Front desk was inconsistent. One was excellent and helpful. The other did NOTHING right. Hand sanitizer station never fixed (after report), and (two more mistakes). BELOW basic breakfast options. WIFI was good enough for email and Netflix, but didn't work with VPN. Gym cramped but at least it worked. There is a beautiful new Courtyard nearby (for Marriott people) and a Canoply by Hilton, across the street. I needed the kitchen but otherwise would choose other options in this location. Eat at 131 Main. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Worst Residence Inn

Horrible experience checking in after being upgraded prior but upon arrival no upgrade. Asked about an upgrade the next 2 nights, was told not available but when I looked on line you could still book a 2 bedroom suite, what gives?? Rude staff, staff not wearing face coverings (during COVID 19 times) , garbage overflowing parking lot dumpster, and garbage all over parking lot (great first impression). Non responsive Management. Very old outdated room, toilet not working well, closet doors broken, and kitchen filthy. Have been a Lifetime Titanium member for many years and this is by far the worst Marriott property that I have ever stayed in. Makes me question staying loyal to Marriott, many other choices out there. We are in Charlotte frequently, next time we will try another brand. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This location raises health/safety concerns

I’d like to start off by saying that the front desk staff is friendly and the lobby is clean. Those are really the only positives to this location. My husband and two boys have been here since July 6th. Our two bedroom suite wasn’t cleaned prior to entering. There was an odor similar to cigarette smoke that hit you as soon as you walked in. My husband asked the front desk if they could have someone come up and at least wipe down the appliances and remove the trash. A housekeeper came into our room without knocking nor announcing that she was housekeeping — she just came right on it. At the time I brushed it off since they were asked to clean. I shouldn’t have. One of the lights in the bedroom didn’t work. We asked for a new bulb. Days later and we still don’t have a bulb. There was also some disgusting mystery brown situation on the ceiling in one of the bathrooms (pictures attached). We just went out and purchased bleach and cleaning supplies ourselves to clean it so that we knew it was cleaned appropriately. And what caused me to feel completely unsafe was hearing our room door shut at 9 this morning. I was in my bedroom and my boys were in theirs. We have our “do not disturb” sign clearly placed outside of the door. I walked into the living area when I heard the door. I didn’t see anyone, but I noticed the cabinets below the sink were open and the trash can was empty. Clearly, someone had been in our room. I walked over and bolted the door. Not even a minute later someone tried to enter our room again. There was never a knock. There was never the usual and appropriate announcement that they were a member of housekeeping. As for my health concerns... You would think that with a plethora of people being terrified of Covid-19, adequate cleaning practices would be in place. It appears that their standard for cleanliness is incredibly low with or without a pandemic as not even basic cleaning practices were used. We will not be returning to this location (so the generic “we hope we can make it up to you next time” response isn’t necessary) and will be escalating our concerns to the appropriate entities. I just felt it was important to let others know our experience before choosing the hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

What Happened to our favorite CLT hotel? Sad...

Please know that we are well aware of the extra stress Covid 19 has put on all hotels. Also please know that we have considered this Residence Inn our "go to" for repeated stays when in Charlotte. But the deferred maintenance problems we experienced are not C19 related. The hotel just appears somewhat "shabby" since last year. 1. In our room, the shower ceiling was coming down due to a leak from above. It has obviously been patched over, but the leak above is continuing and has run down the inside of the adjacent wall, as the drywall & paint have cracked open. This is a mold farm and is not healthy. 2. The garbage disposer was frozen (not working), so any food residue is staying in the disposer & drain. This is also not healthy and is stinky. I had to reach in and pull out someone else's garbage. 3. Upon check-in arrival at 3PM on June 20, the lobby men's restroom was a mess. Trash bin overflowing and no paper towels at a time when we are supposed to be careful about hygiene. 4. The same situation in the pool "T" level men's room, only worse. 5. ALL outside trash containers by the entrances were overflowing and garbage strewn around them. There was an unusual amount of litter on the upper parking deck. 6. The outside rear patio furniture is disgusting. On the positive side, the front desk staff was excellent & friendly, as always. Has there been a management change? I would suggest that a Marriott inspector stop by for a surprise visit soon. Unfortunately, we will be exploring an alternative for our next stay in Charlotte, unless we hear that this previously very nice property has been restored. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
