Fine for a night

Oct 12th, 2020

I had my second stay about a year after my first, and this time, we "squeezed" into a 1BR suite for one night instead of a 2BR a year earlier. It was actually plenty spacious for 2 adults and 2 little kids. We made up the couch such that there were 2 beds, the pull out plus the chaise portion, with a pillow divider in between. I found the beds/bedding particularly uncomfortable, even for one night, so much so I wouldn't want to stay here longer than that. The AC unit was also a little noisy. Also worth noting that this hotel is split into 2 buildings, so if you are not in the main building, you have to go outside for a little bit to get to main amenities, which can be annoying. I did very much appreciate hot eggs/potatoes at breakfast, as well as lots of choice, given COVID. It was grab and go, in the sense that you have to bring to your room, which is fine, but you still had most of the usual options. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Saved by Annie

Aug 29th, 2020

My son and I happened into Mystic after visiting the nature center dinosaur park in Oakdale ( awesome place ). Being the last week of the summer before school naturally everything was booked. We were tired so I was desperate and booked one night at the Whitehall mansion, which seemed like a cool old place. Not so much-when we arrived it was hidden among bigger hotel buildings and in reality is something literally out of haunting in Connecticut! I’d be insane to bring my small child there. Luckily, in order to check in I had to go through the Residence Inn, where we came upon Annie. She took one look at us and immediately understood the circumstances. She was so helpful, accommodating and made a room appear for us! The tv wasn’t connected, so Annie had it repaired within 5 minutes. We had a great night sleep, grabbed delicious pizza from Christos across the street, watched a movie and really enjoyed ourselves. The room is clean, big and really comfortable. There’s grab and go breakfast too. Thank you Annie! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

EVERYONE (including strangers) WELCOME

Aug 25th, 2020

In order to provide open air space during COVID-19, this facility had decided to break down a security door in the adjacent building next to the registration building- this fully allows anyone, with or without a card, to access the building. Will also be forwarding this to Marriott Corporate to see how comfortable they feel as to whether or not this fits their licensing agreement with a franchisee. How this is a Category 5 property is beyond my belief. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Disgusting conditions, zero customer service

Aug 21st, 2020

I’m a Marriott Platinum member and have been a brand loyalist for years..but this location absolutely does not stand up to Marriotts reputation. Upon arriving we noticed the lobby completely deserted. It wasn’t until I almost walked into the employee break room that someone noticed us and came out to check us in. There was no welcome gift or room upgrade offer, this is standard with my rewards level. Key cards deprogrammed themselves multiple times requiring several trips to the front desk. Took the kids to the pool only to find out that there were no clean pool towels, just a mound of used ones in the corner. This is unsightly but even more concerning during COVID. Brought this to the attention of the front desk only to be told, “I don’t think we have anymore” The room was disgusting. All of the dishes were filthy and crammed into the cabinets, the ice maker didn’t work, and there were no sheets or pillows for the pull out couch. The hotel is dated and dreary with a musty, funky odor. The “grab & go” breakfast contained rotten fruit. Staff seems to genuinely not care about providing a pleasant stay. Tonight is our first night of a 4 night stay but we are leaving tomorrow. I don’t even care about the refund. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
