Good home base for sightseeing

Aug 16th, 2019

Clean, plenty of space. We used this as a home base for a few days while we visited Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Badlands, etc. Be prepared to drive for at least 45 minutes to get to the major attractions. But the hotel was quiet, clean, had happy hour a few nights and is attached to a small water park that entertained a 13 year old for a few evenings. Also convenient to Target to stock up on essentials. Only complaints were the living room furniture is very uncomfortable and the bed is super soft. Would stay here again though for all the convenience and cleanliness TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful and a must stay

Aug 15th, 2019

On our way back through from Yellowstone and 12 hours in the car our kids were ready to release some energy. This is the place with a great water park attached. Admission to the park is not included but the best price is to go through the hotel. Spectators are included with the hotel. We got the best deal on a king bed and pull out sofa for the kids which came with a little kitchen. Super clean and modern. Free breakfast and lots of options such as arcade, restaurant and Starbucks. I really needed this nice hotel after sleeping in a tent for the last 4 nights. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Great place to stay and I am picking. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Terrible Residence Inn. Marriott should audit them for compliance to standards for chain.

Aug 10th, 2019

Marriott should review this hotel. First I need to state both my spouse and I are titanium with Marriott due to years and years of travel with Marriott brands. This hotel was disappointing and shameful. We stayed 3 days which was enough to see how poorly it is run. I was not feeling well or we would have checked out early. The Good stuff The bed was comfortable. They have a large dining table if you need. The Not so good stuff. The first issue we encountered was we were not able to get into the hotel’s WiFi. We were told to call the helpdesk who had us walk to the door to connect. We were constantly dropped and had to do go to the door to connect. We called more the helpdesk more than once. We spoke to a different desk clerk and realized the staff knows it but makes the guest call the helpdesk and then blames the contractor. Nothing is done. They have several stories the various clerks give out, “it’s your Apple product”, or “the entire hotel is experiencing it”. They blame the third party but they should be fixing it, which may mean getting a different WiFi provider. This hotel’s WiFi is not up to Marriott standards for 2019, it seemed more like 2006. How can someone stay here for a business trip? We would have had to have checked out if we were there for business. There was dIrty, filthy glassware in kitchen. It looked like it was rinsed with milk. We had to wash it prior to using it. The cleaning staff clearly doesn’t look at it. The climate control appeared to shut off at night. We have seen this at another large hotel chain but not at Marriotts. We are glad we were not there in the middle of the summer. The Laundry room advertises use of credit cards but the swiper is not operable. The front desk said they knew about it but were not allowed to put up a notice that it was not operational. The desk were told it was tacky. Are you serious? Again they blamed the third party vendor of the laundry room. There is no accountability.... We found the variety at breakfast to be good, but they were very restrictive in how much they put out at a time. Greek yogurt is put out one at a time. They don’t refill hot options in a reasonable time. Things were running out and not refilled for the 15 or so minutes we spent there each day. We were there for 3 days and observed the same thing every day, even though we ate at varying times. It is clearly their modus operandi. They also are overly frugal on brand of tissues, providing cheap scratchy ones, not the typical brand name ones that are softer. And, we can understand not providing individual shampoo and conditions in the shower, but they don’t even provide lotion in the bathroom. This hotel is owned by the same group as the adjacent la Quinta inn and Fairfield inn. It is clear that the standards for this RI is reduced to match that of the other two hotels. It is also clear that whoever runs this hotel subcontracts operations but don’t manage them at all. This location is a black mark on Marriott..they should make them improve their standards or remove the brand. I waited 2 months to post this review because I wanted to make sure I was not overly critical, but as I reread it this morning to post it, I haven’t changed anything. This is a fair and honest review. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing stay during Sturgis Bike Week

Aug 7th, 2019

Our third year in a row to stay here at this Residence Inn. Its extremely convenient, being right off of I-90 and although it has a Box Elder address, it is literally, one step out of rapid city. Sturgis is west on 90 and my favorite state park (Custer State park) is south of here about 30 min and easy to get to. The staff here is incredibly nice. Zac checked us in and was informative and helpful, and for the evening reception, Richard, Carol and Jeremiah were wonderful. I remember Richard and Carol all the 3 years we have been here during Bike Week. They are so kind and helpful. Other people come back to the this Residence Inn because tonight we saw a couple that we had met two years ago that also always stay here. Definitely, this should be your go to hotel when you are here to visit Custer State Park or the Badlands, or Mount Rushmore. Although this hotel does not have its own swimming pool, they do give a discount - on the waterpark tickets. (The waterpark is attached). Also, they have plenty of parking, just in case you have a motorcycle trailer. The rooms are clean and spacious. Its nice the staff has Bike Week T shirts that they wear during the rally. Again, thanks to the staff for making this a great stay, 3 years in a row. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Newer hotel with attached water park, crowded breakfast area

Aug 4th, 2019

We stayed here on our way to Yellowstone NP as it has a water park next door for the kids. They loved it. It's a newer hotel just off the interstate and is connected to other hotels attached to the Watiki water park. The rooms were very nice with modern amenities as well as very clean. We liked the kitchen in our suite and the large bathroom. We arrived about 2:30pm and were told the room wasn't ready as check-in is at 3pm. Not a big deal as we just hung out in the breakfast area. At 3:05pm, I checked back with the front desk and a different agent was there who swiftly checked us in without looking to see if the room was ready. I was a little suspicious, but still not a big deal. We got water park tickets for the kids, who really enjoyed that, but it shut down due to a storm. Didn't get to use all the time we paid for the water park. Breakfast was a daily battle due to the crowds. Staff couldn't keep the food and coffee stocked and there were several empty stations. However, we were fed and the food was decent. I recommend this hotel since it's close to Rapid City and right off the highway leading to Mt. Rushmore, Custer Park, etc. in the Black Hills. We enjoyed our stay here and would come back given the chance. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
