Much better than some recent reviews would suggest

Jan 26th, 2020

I was concerned by reviews complaining of dilapidation but, as I was travelling for business, had very little choice and decided to give it a chance. I'm very glad that I did. This is not a fancy hotel, but in the things that matter — service, cleanliness and amenities — there is little to complain about and much to praise. Staff in the gatehouse were unfailingly cheerful, polite and helpful from arrival to check-out. Though my room's decor was dated, it was nevertheless immaculately clean and tidy and all amenities from the fridge to the wi-fi worked perfectly. The self-service breakfast is basic but very good, with a broad range of options. Staff here, again, were notable for their cheerful and friendly demeanour. Per management responses to previous reviews, the rooms are currently being re-fitted. This does mean there are workmen on-site during the day, but in my experience this didn't cause any disruption. A minor niggle is the lack of restaurants, convenience stores, etc. nearby, but that's hardly the hotel's fault. The hotel also seems to attract groups of obnoxious, drunk teenagers at the weekend, but in my experience this is common to many hotels in the US — even the expensive ones. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Needs updating

Sep 23rd, 2019

The hotel is in serious need of updating. Everything in the place is old and frankly the rooms smell bad. The carpet is sticky from all the cleaning spray; the AC makes terrible noise. The rooms are very dark and dreary. I tried to walk around to find food but there is nothing in the walking vicinity so you must have a car or Lyft. Marriott should be ashamed they're charging nearly $400 a night for this property. There is a management reception on some nights and breakfast every morning, I did not try these. Really nice property

Sep 20th, 2019

The rooms are really nice and cozy. Just enough amenities to make us feel at home. Chris Aguinaldo is the reason that will be returning many times he really stepped up when we needed help and make sure that we were taken care of. If this guy is not promoted within the next year, I will have to take it up with Marriott! Thanks Chris! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good stay!

Sep 11th, 2019

My husband and two teens stayed here the night before our Winchester tour. This was a road trip from San Fran to LA. We really enjoyed our stay. We must have been in a more updated room as we had granite and nice furnishings. We had the suite where there was a bedroom/bath downstairs then a loft/bathroom upstairs. There was more than enough room for us and the full kitchen was nice. It worked perfect for us. The place was clean. Someone mentioned feeling unsafe, but we never got that impression. The staff was nice and the breakfast had a lot of options. Only complaints was that the pool water was too chilly to swim in and 1/2 of the washing machines were broke. I got up VERY early to secure two machines. By the time my loads were finished there were other guests lining up after me. After breakfast, there was a line out the laundry door of guests waiting to wash. If I were them, it would have been very frustrating. Had I not have set the alarm for an early rising, I would have been one of them! Safe Travels. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Roomy but a little rundown

Jul 19th, 2019

This Residence Inn is the bungalow style buildings which I love since we were able to book the bi-level 1 bedroom suite. This room had a separate bedroom with a queen bed and bathroom then a loft with another queen bed and bathroom and the living room area has a sofa bed. The room itself was very spacious, but the exterior of the building is a little rundown and needs some TLC. The kitchen had nice countertops with a stove, microwave, full-sized refrigerator and kitchen utensils and dinnerware. Rooms have spacious living room and adequate seating. They have free hot breakfast served in the main building, nice swimming pool, basketball court and tennis court. They charged $12 day for parking. Staff was friendly and location is very convenient to the 101 freeway. Location is about 45 minutes from San Francisco without traffic. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
