A Disappointing Two Night Stop-over

We are planning our holiday for this year and thought we might take the opportunity to let people know about problems that arose during last year’s holiday. We had been on a three week road trip during September and October. We started in Washington State and toured through Oregon and California. We stayed in seven different locations, (4/5 star hotels, resorts and bed and breakfast). It was a great trip. We had booked a Friday and Saturday night stay at the Resort at Squaw Creek, near to Lake Tahoe. It was the most expense stop-over and we had expected it to be the highlight of the trip. How wrong we were. The first problem was parking. Part of the parking lot had been subsumed into a construction site and finding a space was near impossible. Both nights, we finished up parking in an unmarked corned of the construction site. We had booked a suite with a forest view. Save for the additional problems below, the suite was fitted out with quality furniture and fixtures and had a separate sitting room with a fireplace. The bathroom was spacious and had a good shower and separate soaking tub. However, the suite was on a low floor to the rear of the “Guest Tower” and adjacent to the noisy elevators. The forest view was non-existent, unless an overflow valet parking area and a mud bank counts as a forest view. The view was not as described when we booked and was definitely not what we had paid for. The constant noise from the elevators was also irritating. We soon found a lack of toiletries in the bathroom. Bottles of body-wash, shampoo and conditioner were bolted to the shower wall. That’s ok, but they were empty, and there was nothing supplied for the soaking tub. This problem was soon resolved by housekeeping. It was not until later in the first evening we realised the refrigerator in the suite had a fault. The compressor ran continuously and did not switch off. That kept us awake during our first night. Apart from that, this could be a fire hazard as this is not the way a refrigerator is designed to work. The refrigerator was a built-in model and there was no way to switch off without uninstalling it. We reported the problem the next morning. When we returned that evening, the problem with the refrigerator had not been resolved but there was a note in the suite telling us that the electric hob had been fixed! We asked for another room, but were told only a downgrade was available as the resort was full. So we then wasted another hour while “engineering” returned and installed a new fridge. Although we had been told the resort was full, the main problem was that the two main restaurants were closed. Nobody seemed to know why. We received different stories ranging from “corporate events” to “end of season closure”. (We had checked with the concierge – regrettably she did not have a clue what was going on.) Both nights, we finished up eating in the bar. No complaints with the food or the service, but we had not booked this resort to dine out on a “burger in the bar”. Totally unacceptable. The staff members we dealt with were all polite and helpful, but we were left with the impression that not one of them knew what was happening around them. The desk manager did offer a refund on the first night’s meal in the bar. On reflection, we feel this was a token and inadequate response. We had expected our visit to Squaw Creek to be a relaxing and enjoyable weekend. Instead, there were numerous problems and issues that totally overshadowed our stay. Would we recommend The Report at Squaw Creek? Definitely not. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not worth the money at all

Facilities and rooms are outdated and do not resemble the photos online at all. The food was terrible and highly limited selection. Couch had very prominent stains in our suite and we had to move rooms. Thoughtless service- only 1 robe in the room for 2 people (necessary if you want to go to the outdoor pool!). No good options for room service, it was essentially a children’s food menu. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Magical Resort

Simply wonderful experience. This my third year coming here and I can’t wait to come back! The staff, amenities, beautiful surroundings are unsurpassed. The staff is friendly, not pretentious!! Ski in, ski out so convenient. Definitely like the fireplace suites. Everything is clean, up to date, comfortable. Thanks for another lovely visit!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful and perfectly located

I went on a business retreat to Squaw Valley, and we all stayed in this hotel. It was closely located to the slopes, beautifully styled, and the staff was great. I even messed up one of the rooms in our reservation, and they helped me fix it happily. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice Resort

I had a conference at the resort and everything was great! I really enjoyed that they updated the lobby area. It looks a lot better and more modern. Our CMS was great as she had to jump in at the last minute as the original one had left. I would give it a five star but I did ask some items to be moved for the conference and they did not get moved. Otherwise, everything was great. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
