HORRIBLE 1 Star Hotel - Overpriced, Roaches, Hidden Charges, Mold and Dirty Sheets!

Apr 14th, 2019

I had the worst experience staying at Room Mate Lord Balfour. After reading through all the good reviews I bought 6 nights at this hotel which came out to an overpriced $1.5k+ total for what I was expecting to be a '4 star hotel' experience (more like 1 star after all that I went through!). The second morning of my stay I walked into my bathroom to find a huge roach on the wall! (Pictures attached). When I called downstairs for hotel management to come kill it - took over 10 min for someone to come to my room and get rid of the roach. Additionally my bathroom ceiling was covered in what looked like black mold (picture attached). My sheets were also dirty (picture attached) in what looked like blood/mucus - when I asked management to replace the pillow case sheet I just found it to be flipped around and not replaced at all when I came back to my room! Lastly I was charged $15 a day for the breakfast (no one had mentioned the breakfast buffet was not included when I first checked-in) in addition to the $15.99 a day resort fee! On top of the over priced $1.5k I paid for 6 horrible nights - I was also charged $230.34 for the resort fee/breakfast. Minor compared to the rest of the things I mentioned but the hall ways smelled horribly and you could hear loud music from the outside playing until late into the night. Avoid staying at this hotel at all costs - not worth the money and horrible experience! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Okay hotel, well located

Apr 14th, 2019

The hotel is located just south of the main South Beach strip, so really convenient for all that energy. One street back from the beach, and with loungers and towels included which was great. They need the beach because the pool is so small - like a big hot tub. There is also a hot tub on the roof that is mostly broken, but good for an evening lounge. Our room was ok but smelled like stale tobacco smoke. The bathroom was just too small. I think the closet was the same size - you would forever just hit off things. The door to the room doesn’t have any sound proofing so you can hear everything, and the maid would come into our room or at least knock to wake us every morning despite the dnd sign being on. There is a gym that was a good mix of cardio and some light free weights/floor space. The bike doesn’t work/needs a renovation. The bar/restaurant is really overpriced. There wasn’t a drinks menu, which others have commented on here about for some time it seems, so difficult to know how much your bill is going to be. There is a half price happy hour, as with most bars, that makes it bearable. There were usually a lot of disinterested hostesses trying to bring in those walking past. Once you were in the service wasn’t great and they would just push the food menu. The breakfast is $15 pp but we only had it once as it was pretty cheap tasting. We asked for a late checkout and they charged us $50 for the privilege of staying to 3pm pffft. I got the impression there were bigger/better rooms in the newer bit of the hotel, but I’ll stay somewhere else next time so won’t ever know. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Chic and quiet tropical haven

Apr 13th, 2019

We stayed at Lord Balfour for a weekend getaway in March and I have literally thought about it every day since. The front desk agents were extremely friendly and helpful upon my check-in and were through the duration of our trip. The Deluxe room we booked was perfect and the bathroom was amazing (bathrooms always freak me out so this was a nice surprise). It had a private patio space for us that overlooked the pool in the middle of the property, and we utilized the space each day to hang out and drink in the warm weather and soak in the views of the hotel. We loved the murals on the walls and the whole property was very tastefully designed and decorated. The internal patio space below the pool area was so beautiful and we really enjoyed the free bubbly every evening. Kevin, one of the workers there, was so personable and warm. He was always smiling and he made our trip even better! If you want to hit the beach, get some towels from the front desk and they will tell you where to go to get to their chairs/umbrellas on the beach. You'll notice walking around Miami beach that it can get loud and roudy, but Lord Balfour is in just the perfect location that you feel part of all the fun but don't have to deal with the noise or the craziness of it all. The only constructive feedback I could give is that it would be really nice to have more easy access to water and ice for the guests. I felt a little awkward standing at the bar area waiting to find someone to ask for ice/water. Other than that, this was a 5 star experience and I highly recommend staying here. :) TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location, great design, needs a few tweaks

Apr 12th, 2019

We enjoyed our stay at the Lord Balfour. The location in far South Beach is easily walkable to whatever action you're looking for while managing to be quiet enough to sleep at night. The hotel is across the street from but not on the beach, so they offer a towel/beach chair/umbrella service that we enjoyed taking advantage of. The courtyard is beautiful; the pool is just large enough for soaking. Our room was cool, and had plenty of space, but the bathroom was laughably small - big enough to walk into, stand in place in front of the sink or walk into the shower. We heard a lot of noise from the hallway and, strangely, from the room above us, especially when someone walked around. Better soundproofing in the next remodel! The hotel's staff is *great*, very friendly and willing to do whatever they can to make your stay better. That isn't necessarily true of the restaurant staff. We were never greeted by the restaurant hosts standing on the curb, including when we were first checking in and unsure where to head with our bags (up the stairs, even though it looks like you're walking into the restaurant). We were hustled once to eat a meal there, and when I said we were guests at the hotel, we received a flat "OK." The hotel itself needs a valet or porter outside. A mojito at the bar, a splash of rum with sprite and some mint leaves, was $18. That was a mistake we only made once - stick to beer! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Loved this place

Apr 6th, 2019

We visited for a couples weekend to celebrate a birthday and it was awesome. The hotel is chic and sexy. Rooms are small but that’s the case for most hotels on Ocean Dr. The front desk staff is super friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant staff are very welcoming and accommodating. It’s less than a block away from the beach (1-2 min walk). The hotel provides beach towels and beach umbrellas are reserved for hotel guests. We walked up to the beach stand and they immediately greeted us and walked us to our umbrella, very smooth process. This hotel is near all the Ocean Dr party scene without having to deal with the crazy people. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
