Enjoyed our stay!

Jul 11th, 2019

We stayed here one night, after finding the room as a last-minute deal on Orbitz. Considering the location and time of year, we were happy to pay $116 and thought that was a very fair price - since other hotels nearby were charging upwards of $200. We found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating upon check-in, which was quick and efficient. Parking didn’t seem to be an issue when we arrived. There is a free lot right behind the hotel, so be sure to get there early as you can to get a spot. There’s also free wifi, which worked perfectly. DISCLAIMER: We saw a sign near the parking lot that explained that the hotel owners were in the process of getting a permit to remodel the structures on the property. That’s a good thing, as we found quite a few areas that needed repair. (peeling paint in our room, calking was needed in the bathroom, several tiles and boards were loose out on the walkways, also didn’t see a smoke alarm in our room) The hotel offers a free breakfast, and it was just OK. The orange juice was watered down & terrible, and the toaster didn’t work very well. Those issues aside however, we had a pleasant stay. As we learned more about the history of the buildings on the property, we came to appreciate their uniqueness and character. (our room was once part of a horse stable… how cool is that?) We would probably stay here again after the remodel, and see if we can hit the 5-star experience. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful Hotel!

Jul 5th, 2019

This was like paying money to tour the beautiful historic mansion and then having the tour guide say “Hey, tell you what: just go ahead and sleep here tonight. Enjoy the room!” This Hotel was beautiful! Ambling corridors opening into gorgeous entryways, history and wood and elegance everywhere. And the flowers! I can’t express how soul-soothing it was to just wander between the buildings enjoying the flowers and the fountain. This is NOT a cookie cutter hotel and so I did have to adjust to that. There was no parking available in the tiny lot when we arrived and I did have to find a place on the street. And if you look closely, yes, the carpets are a bit worn and the room is old in appearance. But you know what? The room IS old! That’s the whole point! I was pretty sleepy at the time so I might have gotten this wrong but I think the desk clerk told me when I asked that we were staying in the ‘new’ part...built in 1917! So they’ve updated this wonderful set of houses to work as rooms to stay in, and they did a fine job in my opinion. The shower was traditional and the water pressure was great. The sink was this beautiful marble work of art. And as if things weren’t lovely enough, I quite enjoyed watching the beautiful little fish in his tank in the lobby. Beautiful hotel, great value, friendly and helpful staff. Not only would I stay here again, I would actually go out of my way to come to this area JUST to stay in this nice hotel again. The worst hotel I ever stayed in

Jul 1st, 2019

I have stayed in 4 hotels in the last 7 days, this was the worst possible. Wait a minute, I must have stayed in 100 plus hotels in seven countries including some in the third world in the last couple of years, I would say this was the worst. I was surprised since I chose it because the hotel had good reviews online. ===== State of property, furniture, etc: Old is gold does not apply to this place. The property is breaking apart and is not being maintained. 1. The room was hot as the outside temperature that day was above 80. 2. There was no air-conditioning in my room when I called the front desk, they told me that there is no air-conditioning in this hotel in any room 3. I turned on the two fans which were there in the room. They were quite noisy so I turned it off to get one sleep. 4. I opened the window to bring some fresh air, except that there screen had a 4”x6” hole which could bring in insects. 5. I will have to run water for a while to get warmer water. Big wastage. ===== Cleanliness: 1. Stains were all over the carpet 2. Insect in the bathtub 3. Insect on the wall next to my room door. 4. Towels were of good quality, however, =====Service: * When you enter to the lot, there is no sign leading to the check-in room. The board does say to ring a bell, but there was no bell to be found. When I called a hotel number, someone asked me to come straight. I tried explaining to him that there is a wall in front of the gate and my choice are right or left. He kept saying come straight. As soon as I made a choice of right turn he sternly told me to come straight. It turned out that he was watching me on the monitor. Each time I made a mistake he will tell me to come straight. He seems to have a limited vocabulary to guide anyone. * I chose this hotel because of the free parking. Parking was too small and had no space available. * When I approached the front desk. He told me rudely that it is first come first serve. When I told him there is no such announcement online where I purchased the room, he responded by saying he does not know that and my choice is to look for street parking. * It took extra 20 minutes or so to find outside parking and end up parking next to a van whose windows were already broken in. * At breakfast, I looked around to find a spoon, there were none. So I asked the front desk who provided it swiftly. * Then I looked around for water, could not find anywhere. I approached the front desk again, she could not find it either and then brought out a jug. She was at least listening and was more polite than the person who checked me in. * It was then my turn to approach her again for napkins…. Don’t be fool by the name. It is far away from the Berkeley Rose Garden, but do have a few roses on the property. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Terrible, dangerous and expensive

May 24th, 2019

Truly disgusting. No smoke detector, bare electrical wires hidden by curtains, screen broken. Oval toilet w round toilet seat with door notched to close scraping by toilet. Everything was patched together. Front door handle very loose as was front gate. It did not feel safe. Big gaps around the door to our room. Caulking nightmare in bathroom. Many repairs needed. They patched the ceiling, but didn’t paint it. Breakfast orange juice so watered down. On the plus side—bed comfortable, no bed bugs, gas fire was a good heater, toilet flushed, sky light was nice in the bathroom. Raisin Bran, milk and decaf coffee appreciated for breakfast. Free WiFi. TV Channels, as advertised, not available. Over $1000 for four nights. We won’t be back! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Filthy, disgusting and dangerous

May 16th, 2019

This is without a doubt the worst hotel I have stayed in over the last 30 years. The cost was $278 per night! The room had dangerous steps at the front door and in the bathroom. There were holes in the walls, mold in the bathroom and dirt and crime throughout. The mattress was too big for the bed frame and upon sitting, fell off the bed. The front gate was broken and the parking lot was full. Although the front of the the Inn looks charming, the interior is an absolute dump. Only a wrecking ball can help this place.Avoid at all costs. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
