Needs some work

We stayed at the Rydes in early September it was a good deal and quite cheap although I was expecting more. A lot of thing seems quite run down and could do with a bit of a face lift. Especially the front door with are so loud and slow. The shower is also quite an old model and not the best for temperature accuracy. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We stayed here from the 10/09-13/09. After reading previous reviews I was a little worried, but no need! What a fabulous stay it was. The guy with the English accent at your counter was lovely to start with, we were then blown away by our room, again another English guy was just fantastic at reds bar,(amazing cheeseboard there to) the breakfast food was also amazing, so fast, a lovely guy there too who pottered around checking on everyone, made sure we had our drinks right away. All over just lovely staff that genuinely do care. Thankyou for making our Queenstown visit one to truly remember. You provide a top notch service & we were blown away. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Not impressed at all
Sep 15th, 2020
The only reason for 2 stars is because of the fantastic view one have. We visited here for a 3 night birthday / anniversary weekend First impression when arrived was not too bad but could see the hotel has seen better days and desperately need attention. The rooms are really dated with many things in the room broken or half broken or can just not get clean anymore because of age. They say on their website "you can always expect to be met with a genuine welcome, thoughtful touches, and service that goes the extra mile" but this was not such in our case. Arrived the Friday late afternoon. They advertised Happy Hour at the bar area in the hotel from 5pm. We went there to relax a bit. Did not had any Happy Hour drinks but something else which was great. However, felt so sorry for the server as there was one person behind the bar and one server and they were busy. It took forever to grab his attentions to order drinks and food. We ordered some cocktails later in the evening and we saw it standing on the bar for at least 15 minutes before it was brought over to us. I know it is Covid time but we went to many other places over the weekend where they also had less staff serving but at the Rydges it was just ridiculous. The next morning, we had no hot water. We reported it immediately and the guy at reception just said that the maintenance man was there the previous evening already fixing it and there is nothing he can do. We told him numerous times it is not fixed. We asked for the manager's number which he gave us a business card for. We called and immediately a message service came up. Left a message and is still waiting for a call back. Went out the morning and came back later and water was still cold which we then reported again. After really throwing our toys something happened as later in the day the water was hot. Every breakfast was a struggle due to not enough staff in the restaurant area as well. We are still waiting for some Apple Juice not supplied. I can carry on with more items but I think one can get the message from this. We will not be back there again and that will mainly be due to the service TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We stayed for 2 nights. Check in was easy, parking limited but available and our room was warm as we entered, we had to turn the heating down. The bed was comfy - the pillows too poofy and I couldnt find one I could get comfy with. The bathroom appears to be updated - new vanity, toilet and lino. Fresh wet wall linings but they left the old yellow stained bath!! Hope they have a plan for that. Breakfast was tasty and the coffee really good. Views over the lake are stunning. Pretty good value with my grabone voucher, not sure if Id pay the standard rate. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Wonderfully warm winter stay

Warm staff greet you at this ideally located hotel right next to Queenstown's famous Lake Wakatipu. We were then given an upgrade to a warm junior suite with huge king-size bed and spacious lounge and ensuite. Everything was comfortable and super clean. With special bar tokens we made our way to the top level lounge area with wonderful views of the lake and smooth drinks to warm our hearts. Located just a few minutes walk from town we made the most of the lakeside walkway to explore what Queenstown has to offer. The Rydges was a great place to stay and we would love to come back again soon. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
