Fantastic refurbishment has made this a stunning hotel

We read with some trepidation recent reviews but we have found this hotel to be an ultimate 5 star. Perfect position for the old and new parts of the city, excellent on site parking with direct lift access to reception. Our suite was beautifully refurbished with great attention to detail. Staff are so helpful at all times. Although Covid 19 has forced the closing of restaurant facilities in all hotels at present, a 5 euro taxi ride takes you to the Cathedral square where there are so many highly rated restaurants to choose from. Arrives 02/10/20 for sons 18th birthday on arrival OK Wrong room decorated but OK Front bar open but no food Went next door Booked Saturday in hotel roof restaurant The waiting was poor plates brought and removed randomly had to ask waiter not to take my plate One plate stone cold had to return it Another plate bun rock hard inedible Above all else so cold we could not stay for a drink or any celebration No apology offered we signed bill and left The only place open in 5 star hotel was this freezing restaurant all other Places for a drink shut this was 10 at night so we thought room service no that did not work they could only serve beer or soft drinks we were told spirit room locked and no one had a key The receptionist told us a 10 minute walk will get you to bars no apology for the hotel On check out Sunday they had charged us for complimentary drinks we were given for pre booking dinner Again no apology instead an argument they did eventually remove items from bill and did comment they thought the previous evening’s behavior was odd But no apology no attempt to satisfy us For a 5 star hotel this was very poor indeed. The staff with the exception of the spa people acted as if they did not want their jobs I doubt I will ever return to this 5 star Hotel which is a Pity it’s a great location and could be so good if anybody cared . Was looking forward to this holiday so much as it was my birthday trip. Check in was very slow, no information about the hotel or country given at all, no smile, nothing, very cold. Just asked for my passport and card and no conversation or polite exchanges had. No covid temperature checks. Didn’t see any steps to prevent the spread around the hotel either. The room is extremely disappointing for a 5* hotel. It’s very basic and old. I feel like crying. The worst thing is the check out. We asked for a later check out and was asked to pay a ridiculous amount of money to stay an extra hour or 2 Went to the swimming pool to cheer myself up and I promise it smelt like dead bodies and was locked, had to leave before I threw up Went to the spa to try and book an appointment. The male staff there ignored me and my partner for 10 mins as he was on the phone. A quick “I’ll be with you one minute please” would have been fine. But completely ignored us like we weren’t there The service from the staff is atrocious. I’m so angry and upset I’ve to Spend my birthday here. I was recently in Lisbon in a 5* hotel a week ago and this is appalling compared to it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The hotel is fairly central to the center and the beach. The room was allright, nothing special. Due to the corona virus, there were no facilities such as a bathrobe, kettle or a stocked minibar. But everything else was present and in order. The bed was good. This also applies to the air conditioning. The bathroom was in need of a makeover. We saw moldy joints and tiles with chipped corners. The facilities, such as the rooftop pool, were fine. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed breakfast in the hotel. Due to the Corona virus there was no buffet. We were served at the table, where we could choose from three types of breakfast daily. These were generously served. We spent nine wonderful nights at SH Valencia Palace Hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
