Very Overpriced and bad service

Feb 18th, 2020

The resort has a big bug in the way they book and charge for activities and food. It is NOT 5 star and the service is very unprofessional. We had to wait for an hour for lunch table and then an hour for food and then of Cours eby the time the ketchup came the food was cold and boy was it expensive. Im experienced rider and ended up paying $500 for 1/2 walk on a trail on an overfed horse. The reservation I made for the kids was lost though I confirmed it twice with a very rude activities man and our sons were disappointed they couldnt ride a horse which was why we drove from New York. Compensation... graham cracker smore kit.Spa 50 min massage =190$ Self service tea in a paper cup in lobby is-- 3$ Its ridiculously expensive and slow. Not how I like to RR. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Luxury in Middleburg

Feb 5th, 2020

Excellent stay at Salamander to celebrate a big birthday. I think it's better for adults than for small children. Great grounds for walking, luxurious spa with excellent massage. Can walk to town (or take complimentary Audi shuttle). TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing retreat and spa

Feb 5th, 2020

The service and details at the hotel are impeccable. We had a wonderful room with a fireplace and a terrace - it was a cozy retreat after a day at the spa. A nice walk to the main shopping and dining area as well. The onsite bar/restaurant is quite good as well. The spa is worth the trip. The infinity pool overlooks the foothills and our massage room had a fireplace in it. The stay will not be inexpensive but it is worth every dollar. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Girls Weekend trip, a bit of a letdown at Salamander

Feb 2nd, 2020

My friends and I have visited the Salamander two previous occasions as part of our annual girls weekend. We go for the spa, the restaurants, local wineries and quaint Middleburg area. Unfortunately this year, the Salamander resort was a disappointment. We were fans of Harriman’s but the dinner was very mediocre. The pasta, the Rockfish and even the cauliflower were very boring and tasteless. All of us agreed that dinner was far better on previous occasions. Sunday brunch was good, but that also has declined somewhat from previous visits. We went to the spa, services were great but the spa was actually a bit chilly. The indoor jacuzzi was also cold, nowhere near the target temperature of 98 degrees. This resort is not inexpensive so we expect 5 star all the way, and unfortunately it was not. We will skip this resort for awhile. Perhaps it will be restored to its original luster. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing Mother/Daughter Weekend

Jan 27th, 2020

The resort and spa are beautiful. The staff is gracious and accommodating. We did the bows and blades class, went on a horseback trail ride, did the zipline tour, and spent time in the spa. Activities instructors were the best and made sure we were having fun. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Everything is a bit pricey, but the experience is well worth it. The only downside was that we could not eat in the restaurant because they don't allow jeans, and we had packed for a relaxing weekend and didn't bring any dressy clothes. We will definitely be returning in the near future. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
