Not the Marriott I'm used too

Dec 29th, 2019

I arrived to a crowded lobby but was treated outstanding by a young man named Safet. He was the only reason for 3 stars. Our room was just okay and the M-room had nothing in the evening. The M-room was great in the morning but nothing after that. Parking owned by the hotel but you have to pay for it :(. We stayed two days out of a five day reservation and believe me this is hard to write because I love the hotel Marriott. It was so so noisy and crowded with youth basketball kids we left for a hotel on Coronado Island. When in San Diego look around fo the right hotel at the right time. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Attended a birthday party at their property

Dec 22nd, 2019

We decided to stay because it is convenient the party we are attending is at Marriott plus my sister had a discounted rate, we usually stay at the Hilton because they are very accomodating and they make you feel welcome. Upon check in we were nit greeted, we had a problem because apparently we needed a printed out discount form, it was not a problem my sister hd it hut she was running late because she also had to work before going, all that was settled, we check in the room there was not enough towels and requested to a housekeeper we saw on the hallway, phone was not working for somereason every time we try to call guest services it just goes busy, soni always had to bother my sister in her room, i was looking for the waters we can purchase inside the room but it was not there, so my sister said its ok i have bottled waters in the car, i said what they dont have any bottled waters conveniently inside the room no welcome water, and we have infant and toddlers so we need it conveniently but no. When we came up after the party AC was not working, I have to then bother my sister and knock on their room to use the telephone since our phone is not working, engineer came up, NOTHING HAPPENED, it so warm in our room my sister had to leave their door open, the engineer then said we’ll comp you a breakfast and late check out, my husband said ok. Next day, me and my husband go to get bfast we look dumb there by getting declined to eat bfast, we felt discriminated when asked “are you elite members?” I said im not familiar with that since we always stay at Hilton but we were told we had a comp bfast she then said again no you dont so i said wait let me call my sister, i called her and she told me go ask the frontdesk or manager or call, so i called and after that, that is the only time we get o to eat breakfast. Only the guy server was nice of all the workers we encountered. We also paid for the late check out which is whatever thats fine, and my sister had to pay for their bfast, because aside from we felt we were not priority and was discrimanted because we were nit “elite members” one of the associate at the frontdesk said “they are on the discounted rate anyway nevermind them” very rude. when I complained I have asked if my sisters bfast is comp as well since we bothered them all night, representatice over the phone said yes but they didnt honor it since my sister when to eat earlier than we did. We had a late check out to get a bit more rest before going back home but the AC was not still working and was only fixed around 11:30am when we sent a chat following up about it. All in all, it was a very bad experience for this Marriott location. Not recommending this property. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A balm for weary travellers

Dec 13th, 2019

Was here for business and appreciated the amenities like the lovely lobby with books for browsing and a smart TV to watch Netflix to deal with my insomnia. The hotel convenience/gift store was a lifesaver. Need a car to travel around. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

An Impressive and Enjoyable Hotel

Dec 9th, 2019

Recently my wife and I had the opportunity to stay at the lovely Marriott Mission Valley hotel in beautiful San Diego. Despite constant rain during most of our time in California; the hotel was a warm and inviting Oasis after a 90 plus minute drive down from the Buena Park area. Located not far from the Freeways; the hotel is surrounded by ample restaurants and numerous shopping options and is also a very easy drive away from attractions such as SeaWorld, Balboa Park, The San Diego Zoo, and the San Diego Convention Center which makes it an ideal option for San Diego Comic-Con, The arrival area was spacious and had several couches and a large courtyard which overlooked the pool and is adjacent to the conference area. I really enjoyed seeing the Christmas tree lit up and resplendent as it made for a very nice splash of color on an otherwise gloomy day. The spacious lobby had plenty of areas for guests to sit, relax, and wait for others as did the nearby bar and shop. Our check in was very fast and I was taken with how prestigious the hotel looked and was amazed at the daily rate as usually one expects to pay significantly more for a hotel that offers upper end accommodations. There was a member’s lounge off the elevator and we were soon on the way to the 16th floor to take in the amazing view our room and balcony offered us. The room was very inviting and featured a King bed, multiple lamps, a coffee maker, and a flat screen television which also offered us a chance to use our Netflix and other logins to stream content. Naturally there was also a desk and sofa area and the usual things you would look for such as a safe, iron, and so on. Wi-Fi is available at $9.95 a day or $14.95 for a faster speed option. This can be negated by being a member of the Bonvoy rewards club which is free to join. We noticed several events seemed to be happening during our stay and they helped us see the versatility of the property as they were able to accommodate the various events without any lack of service or inconvenience to us during our stay, even when we went to and from the hotel and garage in the later evenings. The bed was incredibly soft and comfortable and we had easily the best night of sleep that we had during which was very welcome after missing our Memory Foam mattress and enduring firmer sleeping options. The pool area was breathtaking as it is in a recessed area of the courtyard and offered a water feature, covered areas to enjoy hanging and other lounges and fitness areas. I especially liked the way that workout equipment was poolside under cover. Sadly the rain and cold weather limited us to admiring it from afar but I made a mental note to try to visit during warmer weather as it would be one of the better pool areas in recent memory. The hotel offers parking at $29.00 per night and there are spots around the hotel as well as parking garages which are numerous and secured via a room keycard. Our checkout was smooth and pleasant and while the rain and cold remained as we left, we had nothing but good memories and nothing but great things to say about the hotel. If you want premium quality service and amenities at a reasonable price and a very appealing and convenient locale, they please check out the Marriott Mission Valley. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great staycation

Nov 26th, 2019

I used my rewards certificate here and it was the perfect one night stay with the kids. Junior at the front desk was very friendly and welcoming. We were upgraded to the MClub due to my rewards status. Jose in the MClub was also super friendly. The room was clean, but dated with popcorn ceilings. The common areas are updated and modern. We used the small gym in the morning after breakfast. It overlooks the pool area which seemed nice. We didn’t use the pool due to the cooler weather, but there were people using the jacuzzi. Overall, it was a nice stay and I would come here again with the kids in warmer weather to take advantage of all of their amenities. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
