Disappointed

Mar 7th, 2019

welcoming by night concierge was very unpleasant checkin : Arrived at 10:00 pm , night concierge was not so pleased to see us (?) Asked for identification and we showed it , then asked for the credit card that prepaid the reservation : We had another credit card with us having all same name but he refused to give us the room for security reason (?!) . We explained / showed our ID and credit card having same name but he continued to refuse . I am CEO of a public company , travelling worldwide , never seen that before . Amazing. We asked to talk to the manager but could not see him . We left hotel . TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Old World elegance with Modern Amenities and Absolutely Stunning Views

Jan 16th, 2019

This is a 14th century monastery in the heart of Taormina, within walking distance of all the shopping and restaurants you would want. Our room was elegant and spacious with a huge covered balcony overlooking the sea. As this place is literally carved into the side of a cliff, the views from the balcony are breathtaking. There is also a full gym and it goes without saying that the staff is helpful and courteous, including booking travel, cars and the like. Also, the grounds are exquisite complete with a pool overlooking the sea as well. If you are really adventurous you could walk down the cliffside to Isola Bella natural reserve and beach, or take the glassed in lift to take you down. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A 14th Century Monastery in the old town of Taormina

Apr 28th, 2018

San Domenico Palace in Taormina is a Leading Hotels of the World with much history. The last owner was a Sicilian Prince who spent his life there, including when he sold it to the Hotelier. The feeling of being back in the 14th Century, with luxury, is amazing. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Fantastic old converted monastery

Dec 14th, 2017

One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. If you want classy, smart, historical, views, service then this is it. Had four days in August this year and was bowled over. Its location just off the main street in Taormina is excellent - just 30 seconds walk to the old town. Breakfasts on the terrace with views over the Ionian Sea and Mt Etna... evening cocktails in the old monastery's courtyard... wandering through the beautiful gardens... all outstanding. It would be unfair to criticise the slightly old fashioned rooms but it's a converted old monastery. Steven, the hotel concierge, was brilliant. He appeared to be fluent in every language imaginable and was so helpful. Yes, not cheap but definitely worth paying a bit more for the quality. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel if you are coming to Taormina. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

You've just ruined our honeymoon

Nov 23rd, 2017

We booked this hotel at the end of May 2017, for our honeymoon in May 2018. They took our money. Now at the end of October, they've just announced that they are closing the entire hotel for 6 months, for renovation and that our room is cancelled. How can they not have known about the closure, at the time we booked? How can they defend this behaviour? How is this '5 star plus' and worthy of a certificate of excellence? Saddened and sickened by their appalling, cynical approach to their guests. To add insult to injury they are now sending us 'special offers'. Tried to discuss the above with them but they responded very curtly that they were 'Not sure, which offer you have received from our side and where we are responsible in having ruined your trip of a life time.' Avoid. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
