Overall Review

The hotel is very nice and clean. We were greeted by Mahindra who was great. Very friendly and informative. We arrived very early and had to wait for our room. He made sure he told us where to change and to please use all the amenities till it was ready. The pool area is beautiful. We were lucky to get there early or would never have had a place to sit. We were up early our entire trip to secure good seats. Rita runs a great BINGO game and on our last day made sure we had everything we needed to shower since we had checked out in the morning. Jeffrey who also did BINGO and runs around all day taking care of the pool area was extremely pleasant. My only complaints are the slow service when you order lunch at the bar to bring back to your chair. A 15 minute wait turned into over an hour that resulted in the order never being submitted. We were credited and lunch was taken care of by Marriott. Lastly the drinks are very expensive and seem to be lackluster. No flavor and appear to be watered down in my opinion. Aside from those two things I will definitely go back. Weather was perfect. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Had an amazing outdoor breakfast at the Gingambo restaurant. Angelo was hilarious, he provided great service and made sure our buffet breakfast was served with an extra side of laughter. Definitely would visit again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Ok but...

Apr 22nd, 2019

First of all we had a lovely vacation. Puerto Rico is beautiful and location of this hotel is perfect, except for beach. I had read the reviews of rough surf, but hoped it was just weather related. No it’s not. It’s all the time. They have a permanent red flag warning on the beach. Very strong undertow, rough waves. 2 of my children, 24 (big guy) and 15 year old got caught in a rip tide near a bunch of rocks, they were pulled into the rocks. They were traumatized and never went back in the ocean. They need LIFEGUARDS! Pools are nice, only one pool is good for adults who want some depth. Other pool is geared to little ones, who actually spent more time in bigger pool because of slide. You need to grab chairs early by pool. No problem at beach, plenty of chairs and umbrellas. They have security guards all over. One of them was a bit obnoxious, would stare at people having fun, as if they were doing something wrong. I didn’t like that. Need more servers by pool. We were never asked if we would like something. You have to kinda flag them down. I have been to plenty of hotels where they constantly come around and ask if you need anything. Overall though staff was friendly. Housekeeping slow, sometimes very late. After being out most of the day, coming back to room, nothing done. We stayed in the tower, oceanfront. We were upgraded from ocean view upon check in. That was nice, view was beautiful. We found beds were small. They should have queen beds, not full. Restaurant by the pool was awesome, food was phenomenal. Fish tacos! The wings and burgers! Yum. Drinks were not watered down, had plenty of alcohol, which was nice. Pool bar was good too. Bingo at 11:00 every morning. Fun! We ate a few times at Ropa Vieja across the street. It was amazing. Starbucks and Hard Rock Cafe is across the street as well. We used Uber most of the time to get around. We booked a tour at hotel to rainforest. I agree with one reviewer that tour desk guide, older gentleman really wants to be anywhere else but there. He was a bit sarcastic and not very informative. The tour is given by Destination Puerto Rico, our guide on the tour was Rene, “Flacco”, great guy, stayed with us at all times. We gave him a very nice tip. Advice.. please have wrist bands. There really is no way to know who is staying at hotel. You can come from beach and go right to pool. Also there is the profiling. Don’t just ask some people for their room keys and not ask others, when they come back from beach or to the beach. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hotel and restaurant reviews.

I stayed here 5 years ago at Christmas and decided to come back again as a pre-cruise vacation. I couldn’t be happier. Juan upgraded my room to ocean view and new rooms after Hurricane. Received coupons for free Rum punch upon arrival! Today I had breakfast buffet and could not have had a nicer experience with Angelo as my waiter. He was super attentive and anticipated needs before I did. Thank you to Angelo and Juan for going 200% for their travelers. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Average Hotel, Overpriced, Service is SLOW

Apr 20th, 2019

We chose the San Juan Marriott based on a certain level of service and quality that typically Marriott provides. I would like to provide my positive reviews 1st- Juan Carlos at the Front desk is friendly, helpful, professional and responsive. Others were not. The gentleman who worked at the tour desk was not friendly and couldn’t be bothered. Felix Perez a Bellman is the best greeter I have experienced at any hotel and truly is this places’ saving grace. He says hello to everyone with a smile, sincerity and a popping high five. Overall all the bellmen and front of hotel security staff were friendly. The view of the ocean was nice & location of the hotel was good. The pool is good for kids. Now on to the issues - the room was a disappointment for the money and screamed IKEA. Our even room came with a broken chair. Why would you leave an obviously broken & distorted chair in a room to create a negative 1st impression? Assumption - you just don’t care. Which remind’s me of the slow cleaning service. One day we waited till 6 pm to get new towels & told them to skip cleaning the room. I often had to chase them down to ask for bottled water in the room or bring them out the trash bucket that they had failed to empty on multiple times. Our main poor impression was of the service overall. People don’t seem to care. Especially at the pool there are problems. They truly need to hire more wait staff and more cooks cause it often took over an hour to get your food and I walked up on one occasion to get my own food off the bar that sat there getting cold. Then I was told I couldn’t have it because I didn’t have proper id even though I had given them my name, room # and what the order contained. Really people??? A woman is going to come in off the street and randomly steal orders from the poor pool side service? This was a reoccurring theme- suspicions of guests. My husband was stopped multiple times about walking on to the beach FROM the hotel side, basically profiled and asked for his room key. If the hotel has so many concerns then they should create a bracelet system like other resorts. We will not be returning to this location as it is not the quality we expected to receive. We are excited to return to Puerto Rico as we had many nice experiences and look forward to exploring more. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
