A Little Gem

Aug 21st, 2019

We took a very last minute overnignt trip to NYC and needed something reasonable and centrally located. Book based on price and location. We loved this little gem of a hotel. It is very Zen and know why they call it the sanctuary. It’s peaceful and dimly lit which makes for a relaxing and sexy vibe. The doormen were very welcoming and helpful as was all the front desk staff. Breakfast buffet is included. Basic egg and sausage and lots of pastries yogurt and fruit. The room is cool and cozy with very comfortable bed. Be forewarned - while it is well appointed it is small. It was perfect for a quick getaway. If I was here for a longer time with bigger suitcases that would Have been a struggle as storage is quite limited. We will definitely return. Great bar options and a nice rooftop lounge. Great location...average hotel

Aug 20th, 2019

The location could not be better for getting out and about in NYC. Staff were very good prior to our arrival arranging a surprise of champagne and chocolates to be in our room on arrival. We arrived late to the hotel due to it taking 3 hours to get through immigration at JFK. When we checked in we had bee upgraded from a queen sized bed to a king sized bed which was very nice. However the rooms are still small with you toilet and shower effectively in the same room. There is little hanging space for clothes or space for bags. The decor is very dark...everywhere. Feels like a speakeasy or bordello. Roof garden bar is nice but very small and noisy. Breakfast choice is limited...scrambled eggs with either bacon or sausage depending upon the day. Pastries, yoghourt, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Would not choose to return. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great hotel in a great location!

Aug 19th, 2019

We had a lovely stay at ten Sanctuary. Staff were very helpful and always available. The rooftop bar / restaurant were amazing! We had an issue with the air con making a noise in our room and we were quickly relocated. Location was absolutely amazing, right next to Times Square, made our time in NYC very enjoyable! Rooms were not the most spacious, but were clean and modern, all you needed in the heart of New York! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A big Disappointment

Aug 18th, 2019

Booked here for our New York visit with husband and 2 boys (8&9) Had a lovely welcome. All the doormen and front desk were kind, friendly, helpful and very professional Throughout our stay. We arrived very early and they took our bags for the day so we could enjoy the city as check in wasn’t until after 3pm. Rooms very small but this is standard for New York. We had separate bathroom, 2 double beds but no storage so had to live out of our 3 suitcases which were on the floor. Room was very clean so I get over all that. Tv WiFi and air conditioning very welcome. Breakfast was disappointing for what it costs. Bread/toast yogurt, awful coffee, pastries, scrambled egg, bacon and 2 types of cornflakes. That was the choice and all self service. Note that you get hit with a service charge on checkout of $80 for the breakfast you get yourself and the WiFi. Location excellent. I’d get over all this but as we booked this hotel based on the lovely roof top bar and the fact we could have a drink and enjoy the heat of the evening with our boys we never actually got past the door of the lift on the 9th floor. It appears that they won’t allow you up with kids for a drink, only food even though on check in I was told there was no problem. They have a security person (girl) on the lift in reception who was in radio contact with upstairs. We asked the girl could we go up for a drink and we were told that we would need a table if we are bringing kids to the bar. we had to sit and wait for 10 min until she told us we could go now as there was a table free. Arrived up on the 9th floor only to be met with a “no you can’t be here unless you have dinner booked” and sent back down on the lift to reception even though I told her we were residence. Felt totally humiliated and the girl in reception pretended she didn’t even see us when the lift opened but was smirking. We went into the bar off reception and when I went to order drinks (and it was very quiet) we got the “have you reserved dinner” ....ah no I only want a drink. Felt like we were totally unwelcome in a hotel I spent €1500 on. She even came over to the table later asking if we were ordering drinks soon but knew she wanted tables cleared for people eating, the thing is the place was very quiet and no one waiting for tables. Felt like we were unwelcome there too so we finished up and back to our room. I’d say something if I had bold unruly kids but they have been traveling around europe most of their lives so they know to sit quietly in a bar/restaurant. In fact we were enjoying a game of top trumps hen she came over to us. So It was 8pm and back in our room like bold children. We had actually planned on eating in the hotel but after feeling like we were totally in everyone’s way we decided to eat and drink outside the hotel or the rest of the stay. Do not come here with kids if you plan on having pre /after dinner drinks. You must book dinner but seems like they have more time for outside bookings. Management too should look at the way ye run the lift to the rooftop bar, your staff on it look very intimidating. I get the security etc but they should at least be more welcoming to the paying guests of the hotel!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
