Dining availability is a myth

Nice property OK beach definitely nicer ones on the island and certainly better in the Caribbean. Typical Sandals falling all over with hellos and good days. Food is OK at anytime restaurants but nothing special. Where the property fails the most is the restaurants you have to reserve. No telephone bookings The desk to book is poorly marked and poorly attended. In other words most guests have no hope of enjoying the better restaurants. We won't be back given the rude treatment of restaurant concierges as we voiced our frustrations. Place needs a total reboot. I'm on vacation I'm not a mouse running through a maze. I want easy. I don't want this crap. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Return to Barbados
Apr 17th, 2019
We returned to Barbados after nearly 20 years, encouraged by Mike McHugh at Dreammakers Vacation Services (thanks Mike). Much better this time. Our return to Barbados was colored by relatively poor weather, it rained almost every day. No total washouts, but it was dispiriting. That said, smooth transfer from airport, easy check in, but our room was not ready until after three PM. Ocean front in building one, good room, a bit noisy at times because of main pool. Food was generally very good. Our go to restaurant was Portofino, close to the room, good dinner choices and a la carte breakfast. Really like Butch’s and the French restaurant (fabulous views from the sixth floor). Buffet at Spices was good alternative. Neptune’s good choice for lunch. Tip: MAKE RESERVATIONS WHEN YOU ARRIVE!! Beach was very nice, not huge, but nice. Resort is on south side of the island (15 minutes from airport), and located where Atlantic meets the Caribbean, so there are some real waves. There was some seaweed, but pretty minimal. All in all, pretty pleased but hard to rave. People were very nice, good bar scene at the Oyster Bar including karaoke. Entertainment was very adequate, but as noted weather did not cooperate. So we enjoyed our stay, but if pushed we would go back to Sandals Antigua. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Fantastic resort but...

Since our first trip to Sandals Royal Bahamas we have only travelled to Sandals resorts. Great food, resorts and service. We have visited Royal Bahamas twice and Sandals Antigua - all at Club level. Most recently we stayed at Sandals Barbados with Butler Service. It was a last minute trip and the only room available. I have to say the Butlers were great and worked hard but at a cost of $10,000 Canadian for four nights overpriced. The room was at the back of the resort and very noisy - hearing traffic and honking horns at night and early morning. We had an issue with hot water every morning. It should not take 10 minutes of running water to get luke warm water. The battery on the cell phone to contact the Butlers died one morning. They took it to recharge for the day. We rarely called the Butlers and asked for anything but a replacement phone should have been offered. At many other resorts, including Royal Barbados, if you pay for Butler service you get private transportation in a premium vehicle. Don't expect that at Sandals Barbados. You are in a taxi van with everyone else. The only other thing I would mention is that we were not advised of other services/perks that were available to us. When we were leaving from the Butler lounge, I noticed Grey Goose on the bar. Apparently I could have requested that in my room no charge. Sorry for the long review. I have never complained publicly. We will likely do Sandals again but did not have a great experience with this trip. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
The resort deserves a better rating, but it's too noisy!

This is our 4th Sandals vacation at various locations, and we're Club members. That level of room was very well appointed and very clean. Curiously, there was a bathtub/shower although our neighbors had a walk in shower, which we would have preferred. The restaurants were good to very good, especially the chop houses and the Parisenne. The Monkey Pub was way less quality than we had experienced at other Sandals. Our room was on the 2nd floor, Royal building, which gave us a great view of the beach and unfortunately a proximity to the main pool--the noise level from some of the guests was much past the point of courtesy to others surrounding them. That's probably what unlimited drinks do. There is a quiet pool just behind our building, which was wonderful refuge from that. However, our building couldn't shelter us from other noisy events. At 5:30 one morning, we were awakened by some scheduled pressure washing of a near by sidewalk with a huge machine sounding like a small airplane. My calls to the front desk to ask if the work could be delayed a couple of hours were ignored. Worse was an evening beach party that apparently was too delicate to be held on the overcast but not rainy beach. It started at 5:30 and the volume was loud to the point of unhealthy-ness. I made three successive calls to the front desk, asking if the sound could be turned down, and it was wasn't. We were trying to enjoy a glass of wine on our balcony, but we soon retreated inside our room and even closed the drapes. Nothing helped and the excessive sound continued until 9 pm. There was no notice of this 'rescheduled' location, and a lot our neighbors had the same complaints. In addition, several of the restaurants had their ambient music too loud, although our requests to turn it down to a more comfortable dining level were sometimes met, and sometimes ignored. This was our first time to Barbados, and we had great visit overall. We'd highly recommend an all day island tour, including the Harrison Cave. We're glad that we didn't book the Royal Barbados. Its recent construction hasn't yet allowed much landscaping to grow, as opposed to the Barbados which was Sandals apparently purchased a few years ago with lush surroundings. Thus the three point rating. Go here for the beach, the quiet pool, and some of the restaurants, but bring your ear plugs and keep the front desk on speed dial for your comments--some might be listened to and some might not. The property is beautiful however a few things that could have made this a 4 star or even a 5. The beach is small and water was way to rough to even swim. Not enough chairs on the beach and the pool! Very frustrating that at 8am all the chairs are reserved. They need to invest in chairs. The main pool area was extremely boring, some days they had music and other days nothing. We did club level and when we arrived we made dinner reservation for 1 night and figured we would make them the next day and when we went back nothing available. The last and final concern was the beds... horrible. We love Sandals and even booked Emerald Bay for next year but we would not return back to Barbados! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
