at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian
Unforgettable One Year Anniversary
Jul 17th, 2019
Last year, my husband and I spent our honeymoon at the Sandals Royal resort in Barbados. We had such an amazing time that while at the property, we booked a second trip to the Sandals Grande in St. Lucia and our experience was equally as wonderful! Once arriving at the airport, we waited in the Sandals lounge for our shuttle to the hotel and were provided with snacks and beverages. After the 1.5 hour drive to the opposite side of the island, we regretted not looking into the helicopter transport more thoroughly, but we were made aware that it was a bit costly and required a guarantee of four people. Hopefully in the future, transport by boat will become an option. Yet, the drive was well worthwhile and we were taken back by the beauty of the landscape from the open air lobby as we checked in. The staff was so polite and accommodating and a champagne greeting was just what we needed after such a long day. Accommodations: After staying in a swim up room in Barbados and only using the private pool a few times, we decided on a lower level room for this trip, yet still had a sunny patio and gazebo to sit under and read. A short walk from our room was a shared pool that we could make use of. Dining: We both consider ourselves to be "foodies" and the Grande offered a wide variety of options that catered well to our dietary needs. Our favorite breakfast was the buffet at Bayside, which offered an omelet station as well as exotic fresh fruit like lychee, wax apples, and passion fruit. For lunch we enjoyed both snapper dishes from Barefoot by the Sea, as well as the sweet and savory crepes from Josephine's. For dinner we found ourselves indulging in the coconut crusted crab cakes, swordfish fillet, and lamp chops from Gordon's, as well as the homemade pappardelle pasta and carved strip loin steak from Toscaninis. For dessert the baked apple from Bayside and mango chocolate cheesecake from Gordon's were our top picks, followed by a visit to Josephine's for Guinness ice cream. Our favorite signature drinks were the spicy watermelon tequila from Barefoot by the Sea and the sugar rimmed martini from Gordon's. Romallah, Cejay, and Kelvin were so helpful!! Activities: When we needed a break from lounging on the beach or on an ocean hammock or swing, while looking at the picturesque landscape, Sandals provided a daily schedule of events. We took part in the complimentary kayaking, paddle boarding, and snorkeling, the floating ocean bar, and LOVED the foam party in the main pool on Friday afternoon. At night we enjoyed the live music and entertainment in the lobby and were thrilled that they provided a chocolate buffet on Friday night! Excursions: We like to stay pretty active and while two of our pre-booked excursions were cancelled, we were able to sign up for the JJ Speedboat Tour which was a great time! We enjoyed the rum punch on the boat, the snorkeling off the black sand beach, the opportunity to take some photo ops near the Pitons, the amazing volcanic mud bath, the waterfall, as well as an authentic creole lunch. It was a perfect way to experience the island and our tour guides 'No Problems' and Cookie made it very memorable! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This was our first time staying at a Sandals resort. It was our anniversary so we splurged a little on this vacation. We had a Caribbean Beachview Club Level Room in the Massade Building. The room was updated, clean and had a great view of the beach and the grounds. It was also in the middle of the resort so you were close to everything. The resort is beautiful, and the grounds are well kept. It is big and you do need to go up and down quite a few steps to get to things. The ceramic steps can be slippery if it rains. There are elevators in the resort also. There are lots of hammocks, fire pits and little alcoves all through out the resort. There is a great Tiki bar tucked away by Soy and Kimonos. Definitely walk the entire resort when you arrive to see all of the great spots that they have. Here are some of the Pros and Cons: Pros: -The service from the staff is exceptional from the time you check into the time you leave. Five plus stars! They are friendly and will do anything to accomadate you. They worked very hard and always had a smile and freindly greeting for you. -Toscanini's for breakfast was the best. -Treat your self to a massage. It will be well worth it. It was the the best massage we have ever had. -Bayside restaurant was delicious. Same quality food as Gordon's but on the beach and not as formal. Cons: -The rugs in the Massade building need to be replaced. They are old and worn. -The swim up pool needs to be surfaced. It is dingy and looks like there is algae on it. -The main pool bar needs to be retiled. The tiles were broken around the edges. -The drinks at the pool bar were extremely watered down. I understand that some all inclusive resorts do this, but was surprised that Sandals did this as well. As a responsible adult I would like to have a cocktail at the pool with the ingredients that are supposed to be in there and not a totally watered down drink. -There needs to be another late night snack option avaialble for all of the guests. Room service stops early and is only availble late for premium guests. The Pub is the only late night option but it is crowded and it takes a long time to get food. All of the staff was great. Here are a couple of them that we encountered on a daily basis and deserve mentioning. Shaahanaz and Shirvonne at the Red Lane Spa were excellent. Peter and Egbert from the pool bar were fun and made some tasty drinks. Linus at the Tiki Bar was very personable. Julie and Sabrina at Mariner were very friendly and accommodating. Roma made the pool activities fun. St. Lucia was beauifuI and we had a great time. I would try a Sandals resort again but only if the price was right or it was a really special occasion. Outstanding Trip! Phenomenal Dive Operation!
Jul 16th, 2019
I LOVE this resort! This was our third time at a Sandals Resort and this was the best experience! Our room was perfect, the food was delicious and the staff was amazing. The dive operation is phenomenal! My issue at the two other resorts was the lack of organization at the dive shop. This dive shop is organized, the boats were not over crowded and the Dive shop team is outstanding! I highly recommend taking the PADI Lion Fish Hunter course while diving. I was extremely apprehensive to use a spear but Marcus made sure I had the skills needed to succeed. It was a new experience and added an extra element on the dives. Also, make sure to go to the Red Lane Spa. They offer a full menu of services. One caution, the resort is a 90 minute drive from the airport. The entire ride is hills and curves. Make sure to take something if you are prone to motion sickness. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
