Paradise found, but service and food lacked.

Nov 21st, 2019

After staying at previous Sandals resorts (St Lucia & Grenada), it's difficult not to compare with this resort, even though it should be taken on it's own merits. Where the Royal Bahamian shone against other resorts it unfortunately lacked in other departments. The resort was lovely, the rooms were spacious and clean, the people were great, the setting was stunning, the problems came at meal times where the service (Most, but not all) was poor and the food (again most, but not all) was poor. At previous Sandals stays we have eaten breakfast at the French restaurant as we enjoy the a la carte, so we thought we'd do the same here, the 1st day our food took about 45 mins - 1 hr to come out and was cold, the 2nd day was quicker but only half the order arrived and again cold, so we went to the Italian restaurant thereafter and all was great. Out of all the restaurants we ate at, the Italian was by far the best food (Hot and timely) and the manager was very accommodating. Something that would have been nice at this resort would be be access to coffee / a coffee machine throughout the day, as not everybody wants to drink alcohol all day long. I appreciate it was bad timing but the Royal cafe was being refurbished during our stay (Until end of December I believe), so the resort was a restaurant down for dinner, this meant an hour wait for pizza's, which caused chaos, especially when Butlers steam in, start taking what they want and trying to jump the queue and long queues at Spices. However lunch at Spices was great (Unless you're vegetarian, then it's salad!). After a while we just had to smile about the service / food and it certainly didn't stop us having a wonderful holiday. We went on the Iguana's, sharks and swimming pigs excursion which was very expensive but worth it, very surreal, stunning waters / beaches, amazing experiences and a full day. Will we stay a Sandals again - Absolutely, will we visit the Bahamas again - Absolutely, Will we stay at the Royal Bahamian again - maybe. I hope this review helps and doesn't put you off staying here, as this is a truly fantastic place and from speaking to the restaurant manager steps are being taken to improve. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Pros and Cons

Nov 20th, 2019

We took a long weekend and spent 3 nights at our first ever Sandals property. We have stayed at RIU, Hard Rock Resorts, Excellence Resorts and Royalton Resorts in Mexico, Jamaica and Punta Cana. This was our first trip to the Bahamas so we decided to try a Sandals. I always list my pros and cons on my reviews. PROS: I thought the rooms were nice size, clean and pretty. We stay in. Club Level Junior Suite in the Windsor Tower. Room 1529. Shower is nice and big. The shampoo, lotion, etc is all very nice. The pools are nice and big. A quiet pool and a party pool. I enjoyed the music and the entertainers at the pool. The food at Gordon’s on the Pier was amazing and so was the scenery. The Hibachi was entertaining and the food was excellent. Collin showed us to our rooms at check in and he was possibly the only employee that went out of his way to be nice and helpful, that we encountered. He was a great guy. The wine was pretty good. The fire pits out back were nice in the evening. The food at The Pub was good. Burgers, Mozzarella Sticks and Fish and Chips. Room Service for breakfast was perfect! Our refrigerator was cold. Most times at a resort, they aren’t. CONS: I arrived around 12:30 am and didn’t get my room until after 5:00 pm on check-in day. I realize that it could be later or around 3:00, but the entire checkin process was unorganized and not timely. The breakfast buffet at Casanova was just okay. The omelet was good, the rest of the food was cold and there was not much variety. Not the resorts fault, but due to weather, the private island was closed the entire time we were there. That was one of the selling points for me and I didn’t get to see or experience it at all. Again, not the resorts fault. The bar at the Windsor Pool is so slow, sometimes there would be 10 to 15 people in line to get a drink. The wait staff around the pool was hit or miss. Mostly miss. The lounge chairs around the Windsor Pool are so close together that you have no room to even privately talk. The staff is polite, but not friendly ANYWHERE on the resort. You feel like you are a bother. Not a warm and fuzzy welcome. The beach was really small. My room was not cleaned at all on my second day because we came up at 4:00 or 4:30 and it hadn’t been done yet, so we put the “do not disturb” on the door. The Pizza place had a wait of over an hour to get a small personal pizza. The nightly entertainment was pretty much non-existent. Summary: the resort overall was very nice. I am not hard to please and don’t complain about cosmetic things or weather related issues. I do like a friendly and helpful staff and good food and drinks and entertainment. I believe your vacation has a lot to do with seeing the glass half full and not half empty. I would definitely go back because I wouldn’t let unhappy or unfriendly staff keep me from trying something again. Maybe the staff is grouchy because they seemed understaffed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

underwhelming

Nov 20th, 2019

When you book the only "5 star luxury included holiday" you expect 5 star. When we arrived we were left deflated by our room in the balmoral tower. It was tired and we didnt feel resembled the pictures. The beach by the hotel is also half the size. The food with the exception of Baccarat restaurant was mass produced and on several occasions cold. Initially our complaints went unactioned but following a discussion with the duty manager Alonso, our experience improved. We had a good time but didnt feel it was worth the money and didnt feel like we were on a "special" honeymoon. The island is the highlight, but the menu is limited and disuades you from going daily. The facility is clearly is understaffed and service was either amazing or wholey inadequate with a number of notable individuals. If the resort had more staff like Alonso and Ludwig who genuinely care and wanted to make a difference it would be a far better recommendation from us. We would not recommend this as a destination for honeymoon or for the amount spent. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Sandals is always excellent

Nov 20th, 2019

Sandals royal Bahamian is just as good as we thought! This is our 3rd sandals in a year and they always do it right. The playmaker team along with all the staff is so nice and always willing to help with anything. I had a chance to speak with managers while relaxing on the beach and they are always willing to take care of any questions or even grab a drink for you at the bar. We will forever chose sandals! Destination wedding!

Nov 19th, 2019

We had 60 people come in for a wedding in November. The wedding consultants could not have been nicer and more helpful. I had never been to a destination wedding before and did not know what to expect. I feel they went above and beyond! The resort was beautiful and the people were so warm and friendly. Our wedding consultants were Ashande, Cashakura and Precious. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
