109 Pilot house—Great location, but ROACHES, ROACHES, ROACHES, and poor customer service

Jun 24th, 2019

We arrived late Friday and found several roaches in the kitchen IMMEDIATELY after ordering pizza. The unit is managed by SeaStar vacations. We contacted the property manager, Lewis Becker, and he informed us that pest control is managed by the HOA. He was rude and unsympathetic to our situation (two small kids and five roaches) however, he offered to spray the condo in the morning . I also asked him to clean the unit. Besides the roaches, the unit could have been cleaned better. He told me there would be an extra $65 fee to re-clean the unit. The next day, while we were out, I received a text that the unit was sprayed. The spray did not alleviate the bug problem. We continued to see roaches during the remainder of our stay. With two small children, this was disturbing, disgusting, and disappointing. We would not rent a property managed by SeaStar Vacations. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I’m not one to write negative reviews as I try to get everything the benefit of the doubt but this place deserves a 0 star rating. First off, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY ON WHERE YOU ARE BOOKING. I was assuming the entire property was on the beach as it does show in the pictures however when I booked I didn’t I guess pay attention that it said bay side which idk what that even meant I just thought it was part of the name. So we get here and indeed we have a view of the bay and not the actual beach. Definitely a bummer but at least the bay is pretty to look at. Interestingly enough, a lady had the same issue where she thought she was on the beach and was on the bay side like we were. I’m telling you I’m not completely dumb, the pictures online really make it look like the whole resort is on the beach. We originally booked a room on the first floor, a studio room. Because it was a studio, I wasn’t expecting a whole lot but for paying over $1,150 I wanted it to at least be better than a Motel 6. We get into the room and there are nasty stains on the curtains, paint missing from the headboard, and we have absolutely no privacy. We couldn’t even keep our curtain open because we were right by the patio area and people were looking directly into our room. The only perk of this room was the shower was nice. I immediately went up to the guest service because I was not having that set up after a stressful week of work and just wanting to relax on vacation. Luckily they were able to accommodate us to the 7th floor which had a balcony overlooking the bay. Upon entering, the room looks like something out of the 70’s. There’s tacky colored random furniture everywhere, and the shower is worse than the shower I have at home - which my house is straight out of the 40’s with blue and orange tile lol. There were also black hairs in it and we hadn’t even been in the shower yet so they weren’t from us. There’s also hardly any dishes and absolutely no utensils. There’s also no main garbage can either. I’m really disappointed to have spent what I considered a decent amount of money for a place like this. I had a nicer room in Hilton head at a best western for way cheaper. Also the internet is complete trash too It constantly kicks you off. I’m hoping the beach side is much nicer than the bay side room wise especially. Please read carefully before you book! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere

For starters, rooms are outdated. Parking is a nightmare, Baytowne Wharf is rundown and has many vacant buildings. Add to that you are charged a village fee at every merchant in the wharf even though you pay outrageous prices to stay in the village. Staff is probably the most miserable I’ve ever experienced at a resort, from “management” to tram staff. Speaking of trams they are usually late, overcrowded and filthy. Do yourself a favor and stay at one of the properties on Grand Blvd. Yes, they don’t have Sandestin beach access but the beach is overcrowded anyway. Dune Allen is not far from the hotels on grand blvd and is quiet and lovely. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We stayed here recently for a continuing medical education conference. We were assigned to the fourth floor and had a connecting room to some other of our family. Their room was “remodeled” but ours was disgusting! Fourth floor with a parking lot view. This is a 1 star room at best. Dark. Dingy. Old. Very old. Very gross carpet. The best I can say is the mini fridge worked fairly well and the coffee maker worked. The bathroom had some burned out bulbs. The “fan” was probably never cleaned so taking a shower was like being in a sauna. Lightbulbs in the room entrance flickered. The room phone had a red message button that blinked 24/7 yet there was no message. A call to the front desk gave us instructions to unplug it and then plug it in again and it would be fine. Not true. Maid service was mostly non-existent but we did get fresh towels daily around 5-ish. The maids looked overworked and exhausted. The A/C we ran non- stop but the room was dank and stuffy! At close to $300/ night this was beyond pathetic! The resort itself is a beautiful piece of property. This must be the original building. The lobby is ok and the nearby pool was a plus. Perhaps a room across the hall with a bay view would have helped a little. We would never stay here again!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
