Small rooms

I had forgotten how small the ingenious architects in Vancouver can build - the bathroom is a a real feat! If you have a reason to be in the vicinity, this is a decent hotel to choose. It is clean, but is showing its age - the doors fit loosely, the elevator floor lights don't work for some floors and so on. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We recently stayed at this hotel because it was close to BC Place Stadium where we went to watch a Rugby tournament this past weekend. It was a convenient location and was great to have the Moxie’s and Shark Club in the hotel. But mostly everything else was a huge disappointment. The rooms were dingy and outdated. Our thermostat was broken and things were falling apart in the room. The bathroom was tiny and cramped. There was no mini fridge or microwave. The only positive was that the beds/bedding/pillows were comfy. The ATM was out of order and the first night of the tournament, the elevators stopped working!! We utilized the fitness room, pool and hot tub. In the gym, only 1 of the 3 treadmills were working, and it was such a small area to work out in. It was not spaced out at all and I was bumping into people trying to use the weight machines. The pool was a decent size, nothing negative to say in that respect. The hot tub jets were not working properly. Check in and check out process went smoothly and staff were friendly. We attend the Vancouver Sevens Rugby tournament annually, and we most definitely will not stay here again nor recommend this place to anyone else. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

One word: DON’T!

I try to be as neutral and unbiased as possible when reviewing anything, but this place is one of the worst properties I have ever stayed at! The room we had was beyond unclean. Dust accumulation that was visible to the naked eye, cheap furniture that was damaged and worn to the point of the particle board it’s made from visibly crumbling, stained sheets, a bathroom that hasn’t been maintained properly (looks like someone gave a toddler a caulking gun and let them go to town with it), peeling wallpaper, and a view from the room of the other side of the hotel’s exterior covered in pigeon crap. Aside from the sanitary/cleaning/maintenance issues, the staff suck. They refused to do a currency exchange for a small amount ($100 USD➡️CAD), despite having it in writing that they do exchange for small amounts. Another note, the main entrance to this hotel is NOT accessible, meaning folks with disabilities must enter through the parking driveway which presents a load of safety concerns for them! I will never stay at another Sandman property again, and would advise against anyone else staying too! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Wow, what a horrible hotel experience. First of all the rooms are tiny and the bathrooms are extremely cramped. They only provided 4 towels and when I called to ask for more they said no, horribly rude front desk. Every morning we were woken up at 6:00 AM by a phone call from scam artists pretending to be the hotel asking for credit card information. My friends and I got stuck in the elevator for 30 minutes, when they finally got us out they were unapologetic and offered no compensation. On the second day of the stay our room keys just stopped working, and of course another group was stuck in the elevator so we had to walk down ten flights of stairs to get new room keys, walk back up, and the new room keys didn’t work either. Overall this hotel was actually just terrible. I have pretty low standards for hotels, and this hotel was awful. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I have stayed here a few times and was sadely dissapointed this last time

I have always found this hotel to be clean and has a good location but the front desk customer service has changed. Maybe too busy? I am not sure. The over-all front desk experience was not good, but a few of the more concerning points were when I paid for the hotel room, I was not told the pre-auth'ed amount would stay on my credit card for a duration of time. When I managed hotels, we used the pre-auth to finalize the final bill so this would not happen. I wasted a lot of time trying to find out why I had been charged twice and even emailed the head-office who promised me a reply from a manager who I never heard back from. Then the other issue was when we discovered that the window in our room (which was located on the higher floors) completely opened up. Looked like someone had removed the window blocks that kept it from opening. I have very young kids so was pretty worried about this, but front desk was not concerned and never offered for anyone to fix it. To this day, I really do not know if they took me serious. Scary, and very dangerous. Window was floor to ceiling, so when opened, anyone any age could fall out. We blocked it with chairs and bags. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
