7 years later...

Jul 4th, 2019

My family has been to Schlitterbahn New Braunfels and Galveston. We came to the SPI Schlitterbahn 7 years ago. This time we stayed in the resort itself for 4 nights. I am going to review from beginning to end. 1. ONLINE PURCHASE-there are some glitches that can happen. My corporate code allowed me to purchase Stay and Play package with a great rate. This package comes with tickets for waterpark for each day. I am glad I looked at my email. It SEEMS as if you get the tickets but it has to say explicitly in the confirmation email. Fortunately I straightened all of that out prior. Be aware that the 800 phone/online reservation is a separate database that transfers purchased information to the park database. At first I thought I was going to be an unhappy customer but the rep actually called me back after I thought I was out of luck and said she found where I did make the purchase and they would honor it. She said have the front desk agent's read the notes. I was worried about issues upon check in but all was great!!! Lesson: when doing your online reservation make sure your confirmation of purchase explicitly states what you bought! 2. CABANA: Several years ago at the New Braunfels Schlitterbahn we rented a cabana. The experience was awesome and we decided from that day forward that any visit to a Schlitterbahn would have to include a cabana rental. Beware that you have to bring your own lock (or purchase one there for $5). We stayed in one of the Island Cabanas and it was wonderful. A 2 stall restroom (both unisex and open to all park patrons) was extremely close by. The attendant comes around every 30 minutes and you can start a tab. The Blue Wave is 32 oz and is a perfect drink for relaxing. The ONLY downside is that although we were staying in the resort, we had to walk to the complete opposite side of where we were staying to the general entrance of the park (to me that tarnishes the convenience of staying in the resort) to check in for our cabana. Not only that, but although I had already prepaid for it and 2 souvenir cups on line, I was made to wait in line behind those in general admission for waterpark tickets. There is a prepaid booth but that is for waterpark tickets only. That made absolutely no sense at all. At the very least, if a resort patron has to walk to entrance, then any online purchase should be allowed to be done at a prepaid booth or maybe even through a concierge. 3. ROOMS: The rooms were decent. We stayed in a standard double Queen. The restroom is extremely small. The door awkwardly opens inward closely to the toilet. My family preferred to use the toilet with the door open because it was so awkward. When I looked at the tiles, the bath room itself appeared to be about 4×4 or no larger than 5x5. Despite it being small, I didn't mind that. The AC worked VERY well which is appreciated given the high humidity. 4. CUSTOMER SERVICE: The housekeeping staff was AWESOME! AND I do have to say-all the customer service I experienced from housekeeping to maintenance to retail to restaurant was PHENOMENAL. You can tell the manager has high expectations in that area and it is so much easier to be forgiving about any issues that may come up when you have great customer service. We had an issue with the in room safe and in less than 5 minutes (1 minute actually because I believe he was on our floor at the time) maintenance was there. 5. OUTDOOR WATERPARK: No major changes from my review 7 yrs ago. Park is still small. I didn't see any new additions. It remains a good waterpark if you have skidding ones or small kids. The intense rides at this park are in my opinion not as intense as other rides in the other Schlitterbahn parks. You are not going to find the intense thrill rides. And that is ok. They are still fun. Overall, I consider this to be the relaxing and more chill Schlitterbahn of the ones I have been to. 6. INDOOR WATERPARK: The indoor consists of the Torrent River (this is the fun looping river in which the wave machine pushes your float around the looping river), a kiddie area, and two mirroring slides. There was also a closed roped off area which looked like a game show type of activity where you have an audience watching two teams play with water guns for points. We were hoping in the five days we were there it would open. I asked one of the attendants about it but she didn't know. 7. OVERALL: I think the park and resort is overall a little too pricey. If you are going already knowing that it is NOT a large park with high intensity rides then it is worth it. Oh-and a last minute note. The entrance into the resort is a little confusing. You go down a road but if you go straight you are blocked by a fence with a stop sign on the gate. That is a different property. You need to turn left at that point and you will see the Schlitterbahn hotel entrance on your right hand side. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great place for fun

Jun 27th, 2019

Pros: Family-oriented, fun, great experience, good water slides, wonderfully fast-paced River, lots of food choices, indoor AND outdoor facilities, lots of restrooms, plenty of tubes and they are free to use, a waterproof phone case, reasonably-priced lockers, beachside, big parking lot, plenty of lifeguards on duty, affordable and they have value tickets. Cons: Floors with chipping paint, slippery sidewalks without anyone pushing the water off them, a tunnel you have to walk through to get to the outdoor facilities from the indoor ones that isn't cleaned off so water and mud sits there, the outdoor appearance looks smaller than it is inside and it looks a little shabby. The rides are spread out and you have to walk far to get from the indoor area to the outdoor area. Also, for a big place that makes a lot of money, you would think they would have more Vegan options, but they don't. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This hotel is right on the beach!!! We enjoyed our stay at this Schlitterbaun hotel. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. The beach access is private and has a bar on the board walk. The staff is always available for help. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent Customer Service

This was our first time staying at this Hotel. We had to transfer in the middle of the night from a different Hotel to Schlitterbahn .We arrive close to 1:00 am and the front desk team was friendly and accommodating. We bought passes to the water parks and we were impressed how well trained and focus the life guards were. We will definitely stay at this location in our next family trip to SPI. Overall alright stay for the price

Okay hotel resort, pretty fun with something for everyone. The only problem, however, is how absurdly long the lines are without any form of a FastPass system. Pretty nice honestly, but don't go into it expecting anything luxurious. If you really want the best out of this place, it has to come from how YOU perceive your stay TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
