Beautiful place for us spoilt by constant loud noise !!!

Feb 28th, 2020

We were advised to go here by travel agent as we said we wanted a quiet relaxed holiday by the beach ! It was our first time of all inclusive and we won’t be doing that again as, of course, all drinks free which means a full pool every afternoon and early evening of very loud drunk holiday makers .. who take all the blue swimming beds and use them as tables and basically take over !! There is another quieter pool but this is ruined at that time by the constant noise .... on the other hand there is the most idilic beach and the sea ..... which I would go on at 7am to see the sunrise and peacefully read a book .... people are down incredibly early to save beds etc .... the beach could do with more umbrellas as you definitely need the shade .. All lovely until the Aerobics then lunchtime entertainment began ... why oh why it had to be so loud I don’t know ??? The bass in the backing machines was ridiculous and the microphones were up so loud ... totally spoilt any relaxation for us ... I do appreciate that we were in the minority and that the majority of the clientele liked it. The room and food were excellent and plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit .. a good variety too ! The hotel was very clean and the staff were good. The coffee shop and its staff were excellent and very friendly.. it was lovely taking a fresh croissant and coffee from there to the beach at 7am. I went on an excellent day trip to Tulin, a Cenote and lagoon for snorkeling .. well worth it ... Unfortunately wouldn’t return as some days just trying to get some peace was a nightmare !!! Good but could be better. UVC staff must improve.

Feb 28th, 2020

We visited here last weekend. We are in our 30s and the hotel average guest age i believe is 50-70s. We have a really wonderful time. But if you want a spring break party I suggest other options. The entertainment staff activities are great. Hector Montes de Oca is the chief staff and we enjoyed the activities. We enjoyed a lot the interaction atmosphere they develop. I have been in other Secrets and I have to admit they did a great job. I suggest Newlywed show. It was hilarious. We are uvc members and very disappointing the threat we received from Oscar of uvc preferred club. Offered us a service to negotiate with us and did not do what he offered us. We asked him and simply was like "I dont care". This hotel does not have a well developed preferred facilities. We did not get upgrade and preferred lounge is a tiny room Food is great. We visited portofino, cactus, seaside grill and all super. Room was ok. Bathroom light was doing a weird noise. I believe in the last working hours. We informed and requested to change it but in 4 days they did not do it. Room 239. If you want to rest. This is a great option Rogelio H C TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The Secret is Out on Secrets Capri

Feb 27th, 2020

Each year we are mildly reluctant to give this resort the off-the-charts and glowing review that it so rightly deserves because we want it to remain our own little quiet piece of paradise that the rest of the world hasn’t woken up to yet. Alas, the secret’s out that this place is magnificent in every way! We’ve just returned from our “three-peat” stay at the fabulous Secrets Capri, having spent another wonderful two-week February vacation at what has truly become our home-away-from-home. With this trip in the bag we can confidently say once again, this is hands down the best resort we’ve been to in our 15+ years of travel throughout the Caribbean and South/Central America (at various chains and star levels). Before arriving this year, we quietly mused that Secrets Capri and its hard-working and welcoming staff would be hard-pressed to top our last experience there in February 2019 (one that was extravagant and full of pampering), but wow, did they ever knock our socks off this year! Rest assured, we are counting down the days until we “Go Four Glory” at Secrets Capri in February 2021! Upon our arrival this year, dozens of familiar faces greeted us with smiles and open arms, warmly welcoming us back “home”. Our spectacular section concierge (for the third year running), Rodrigo, proudly guided us back to our peaceful and beloved Room 219 (Junior Suite Ocean Front). Secrets Capri will effortlessly beguile you. It may be an older resort, but it’s charming and elegant, and has excellent food, a stellar beach, and incredible staff. The décor of the resort is simply stunning. Secrets Capri's feeling of old world elegance and sense of genuine class is entirely entrancing. Delights abound from the small details like unassuming vases of a few cut flowers in inconspicuous but enchanting places around the resort, to the more pronounced lush and lavish flower arrangements that adorn its grand halls and open areas. Relaxing scents flow seamlessly throughout the stately property and across the well-manicured grounds. The soft white sand of the beach and lull of the waves summons your carefree mind, while the energy at the pool dazzles you until you can’t resist nodding your head to some tune or a beat. Meanwhile, the remarkable staff are quietly crafting the next surprise they have in store for you. Ahhhhhhhhh…. Well, if you can’t picture yourself in that, then here are just a few straight-up highlights of the things we particularly love about Secrets Capri: - No bracelets required, no restaurant reservations required, top shelf international & domestic drinks, Unlimited Connectivity, reliable WiFi throughout the resort property. - An open and inclusive chain that respects diversity in its many forms (for guests and staff). - Perfect size, adults-only resort. A relaxed and sophisticated 291-room resort that always has sun loungers available at the pool and the beach (although compared to the past, people are increasingly adopting the annoying habit of “claiming” a chair in the morning and then never returning to it). - Nicely sized rooms with all the amenities one could need. Rooms are replenished daily with soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, 15 SPF sunblock, toothpaste, razor, shaving cream, shower caps, sewing kit, etc. In addition, bar fridges are refilled every day with a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. - Information tablets in each room (great for reducing paper waste!) are terrific and provide details on daily programs, special events, resort information, etc. - Local wildlife abounds, including deer, coatis, numerous species of exotic birds, iguanas, etc. - At most times, guests are seated immediately at restaurants for dinner. Sometimes there is a short wait, but the pager system works great and it gives you just enough time to enjoy an aperitif at the bar! - Restaurants are all great with a breadth of options, including vegetarian dishes. One of our former favourites, Portofino, while still terrific, actually moved to the bottom of our order of preference this year. We were pleasantly surprised by the new menus at Oceana and Seaside Grill where we thoroughly enjoyed every meal. The manager, hostess, and chef at Seaside Grill are excellent. The Japanese restaurant, Himitsu, won top honours for us again this year (tied with Portofino last year). The management at Himitsu is absolutely spectacular. Add to this a dynamite team of servers, a head chef who is truly a food magician, assistant chefs that also impress, and hilarious and talented Hibachi chefs. Fabulous! - Breakfast at the Cactus Club is lovely and the Breakfast Buffet (La Riviera) had an abundance of fresh fruit and other healthy options, including the awesome juice bar! Coco café is fantastic – good coffee (macchiato, cappuccino, lattes, etc) and delicious treats and sandwiches. - Distance markers on the driveway between the resort and the highway were perfect for our morning runs (NOTE: 2.4km return trip). The driveway is lined with plants, flowers, trees, wildlife, and friendly staff arriving in the morning. Most importantly, this resort is THE BEST because of the amazing, hard-working, friendly staff who go above and beyond to make you feel at "home". There is a genuine pride that every staff member exudes – from the maintenance and groundkeepers, cleaning staff, bartenders, servers, to receptionists and managers, and so on. Congratulations to the entire Secrets Capri team for being the foundation of such a wonderful resort. We truly didn’t encounter any unpleasant team members. On the employees at this resort, to begin, there are four staff members in particular that are absolutely exceptional and made this trip out of this world. These individuals went above and beyond what any guest could ever possibly expect at an all-inclusive resort. What each one did for us time and again was remarkable. We are immensely grateful for their kindness and friendship. These four deserve special recognition from management and the highest accolades for outstanding customer service: - Paula (Himitsu) - Teresa (Pool & Beach Service) - Rodrigo (Section Concierge) - Perla (Seaside Grill) In addition to those above, special thanks to the following employees for their own commendable, genuine hospitality and friendship: - Karen, Edde, Breakfast Chef Freddy (La Riviera); - Karina (Oceana); - Anayeli, Julio, Samuel (Seaside Grill); - Head Chef Eduardo, Ricardo, Hibachi Chef Julio, Carlos (assistant chef), Joaquin, Jesus, Rolando, Tatiana (Himitsu) - Sosa, Filemon, Alberto, Tomas (Pool/Beach Service); - Danira, Maria (Coco Café); - Alma (Spa); - Humberto (Bell Boy); - Christopher, Geo, Rodrigo (Entertainment Team) - Omar, Clemente (Bartenders); - Virginia, Jhony, Lucero (Rendezvous Lounge - Lobby Server); - Viktor, Raul (Portofino); - Salma (Portofino and Concierge Trainee); - Deniss, Karla, Fabian, David (Cactus Club); - Emma (housekeeping); and … of course SO many others whose names we’ve unfortunately forgotten. What an amazing place! We’re certain you’ll think so too. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Our new home away from home

Feb 27th, 2020

This was our 4th or 5th trip to Secrets Capri. The previous visits were outstanding so coming in expectations were pretty high. Upon our arrival in the early afternoon we were greeted immediately with a cool towel and champagne and directed to the check in desk. Prior to arriving we decided to extend our stay with additional reservations. There was a bit of confusion with regard to the multiple reservations but it was resolved quickly. As is often the case, because we arrived before 3pm our room was not yet ready. We plan for this and immediately went to the beautiful beach to relax for a while. Once our room was ready, we headed there and had our luggage delivered. For the most part, everything in the room was spot on including the mini fridge and snacks. One area of disappointment from previous trips was with the toiletries. There were no sunscreens or toothpaste provided the entire stay. I’m not sure if this was an oversight or a change in policy and to be fair, we never called to ask, just something to note. Our housekeeper, Yeni, did an amazing job all week as did whoever restocked our mini fridge and snacks. One of the things we most looked forward to was the smaller size of Capri and the overall vibe that just helps you relax. The small pond with turtles in the main building always brings a smile to my face. I highly recommend the feeding of the turtles at least once. The grounds, as always, were beautiful and lush. The beach remains one of the best in the entire Riviera Maya in my opinion. It’s small due to the size of the resort, but with soft sand and smooth ocean bottom. You are able to walk in either direction for quite a ways and the water colors were beautiful. Thankfully the seaweed was MUCH less than earlier in the year and several days there was none at all. When some did wash ashore they were quick to have workers clearing it away. I’d personally like to see some fresh sand brought into the volleyball court as it started to have a fair amount of shells/rocks for some reason. Drink service on the beach from Geovanny and Alberto was excellent! Service at all the bars was quick and friendly. I particularly enjoyed the fact that Don Julio Blanco was stocked everywhere (among several other enjoyable brands) but missed the Don Julio Reposado being available like it was on previous trip. Drinks were as strong or weak as you preferred. Many evenings we just relaxed in the lobby bar where Silvia always met us with a smile and great service. One other favorite daily stop was at CoCo’s café for excellent coffee and snacks. Danira was always helpful, cheerful and a great pleasure to speak with. The food has always been good as it is at most Secrets properties but this trip my wife and I both noticed that dinners were significantly improved. Our favorite spot has been and still is breakfast and lunch at the outdoor Cactus Club. It is an AMAZING location for dining overlooking the beautiful beach and ocean. The varieties of tacos and cevice were outstanding! Throughout the week we had the pleasure of a few particularly exceptional servers at dinner: Adelaido at Himitsu, Julio at Seaside Grille and Pedro (twice) at Portofino, our favorite restaurant of this stay. One other server to mention, Geriel (apologies if I misspelled your name). We were seated outdoor for the Beatles show and for whatever reason our table had a mix up and was not assigned a server. We sat for a fair amount of time when Geriel noticed our lack of service. Instead of telling someone he took it upon himself to go out of his area and ensure we had some of the best service of the entire week. We truly felt as if we had private service with on the kindest staff members at the resort. It’s small interactions like this that we experience every stay at Secrets Capri that will keep us coming back again and again. Activities were plentiful and the entertainment staff was excellent! Yoga was available in the mornings, and like most other Secrets properties, was taught by a professional instructor, named Julie. We were very excited to see Hector, Yoshida, Berenice and Rodrigo whom we met from our previous stay. Meeting Georgina, Yari and Christopher was an added bonus. We had a blast talking with them, playing games all week and we really appreciated their efforts even when few other guests showed up to play. The theme of Capri staff members going out of their way to ensure you enjoyed your stay encompassed every area of the resort and was very much appreciated! The nightly shows were enjoyable. We always enjoy seeing the Quarzo Band play (in this case before and during the Beatles tribute show Revolution). While were a bit disappointed that they no longer offer the Rock Show here, the Elements show that replaced it was EXCELLENT. If you’re there for that show by all means, GO! In fact, the addition of having Mike Grabow (the vocalist from the Elements show) play poolside during the week was outstanding. Several of the other bands playing poolside were also quite good and it was great to see CoCo and Martha again (if you’ve stayed at other Secrets properties you’re probably quite familiar with the duo). Our stay overall was truly exceptional. Both my wife and I left feeling as if Capri is our new home away from home. The small, intimate feel of the resort really helps you relax and the people make you feel beyond pampered. I’m already dreaming of our return to Secrets Capri! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not up to Secrets standards

Feb 27th, 2020

My family are members at UVC. We just got back from staying here and i was less than thrilled about almost everything. Upon arrival we were starving and thirsty and offered nothing. Greeted to the Member lounge and there was no bar or food available and the staff was subpar. I went to the lobby bar to grab something and the woman was so incredibly rude. We got no upgrade, pretty sure had the worst room in the resort (we were woken up by the noise of a saw cutting something in the morning and it was also happening at night. We heard every single cart a worker had filled with something go by our room and it kept us up at night and woke us back up in the morning. we were right by some huge boiler thing and the area the workers congregate. We came back to our room one night and the floor was covered in water that was leaking from the ceiling) We We had reserved a room with a king bed and what we got was two double beds shoved together. We had contacted the concierge for Hibatchi reservations and she said she'd get back to us that night, the following night we followed up and she said oh sorry there are none and it is closed the following day. We had blatantly rude bartenders and servers, which i have NEVER encountered in Mexico. I have been to Now Sapphire and Now Jade and those are way better resorts in my mind than this one. Wish i would have saved my money and just gone there. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
