Disappointing and misleading

Aug 17th, 2020

We were very disappointed with our experience here. We came for a romantic getaway and were excited to book on of the best rooms in the place. The room looked a lot different from the pictures advertised. When you book, you receive a lengthy email with all of their rules and regulations and also information stating that the room may not look like the pictures because you will be allocated one of those rooms advertised. Therefore, our room did not have the fireplace or the same windows that appeared in most of the pictures. Our complaint was handled in a very poor manner. Seven Gables Inn were dismissive and I never received any further communication from them. Furthermore, they have check in time beginning at 4pm, which can create chaos in the foyer as everyone wants to check in at the same time and get the most value out of their expensive stay. It is definitely not worth the money. The room was small and the bathroom was tiny and outdated. If you're looking for fresh air, despite showing photos with open windows, the windows may not open...depending on which room they decide to allocate to you. We definitely won't be back. Perfect as advertised

Charming place as advertised. We got a beautiful room on the first floor overlooking the ocean. We had the wine bottle graciously offered watching the ballet of sea otters at sunset. Just magical. The lady at the reception (Veronica?) was adorable. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A treat for your soul and body..

Aug 1st, 2020

A charming hotel, every room has an ocean view, its own name and character. Just looking through the window put you in a calm/zen mood. Comfortable beds, soft linens.. We stayed during pandemic restrictions, with no breakfast on the site. But there are several delicious breakfast places in a short walking distance. The hotel build in a late 1800’s and somehow preserve the atmosphere of the Old Wold with its values. Definitely recommend. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A Perfect Stay

Jul 25th, 2020

We celebrated our 30th anniversary here (during covid) and couldn't have been more happy with our stay. Upon check-in, we were given the keys and a brief history of the room we had booked (Julia's room) - a nice, personal touch. Upon entering the room we first noticed the beautiful leaded glass octagonal window, and then were immediately drawn to the sitting area/nook picture window with a full view of the Monterey Bay. The view was amazing - we cannot say enough about it. On a small table there the staff had placed a bottle of wine, a note of congratulations, many individually packaged snacks and a set of binoculars. A fully-stocked Keurig was on a nearby side-table. A blanket wrapped in plastic (for cleanliness) was in the beautiful armoire for the chill at night. We left the windows open during most of our stay and enjoyed hearing the babbling water feature below in the courtyard as well as the sounds of the ocean and the many seabirds. Yes, we also heard the cars, but that's a given being on the road and was not a drawback. When we weren't out exploring, we loved sitting in the comfy chairs viewing the sea life (sea lions, otters, cormorants, seagulls), the deer walking down the road, kayakers, swimmers, the fishing boats, and more. Lover's Point is just across the street, where we rented a tandem kayak for a few hours. Lighthouse Blvd is a short walk up the hill, where you can find coffee, and restaurants away from the crowds. The walking/biking path along the coast is just across the street and leads you to the main touristy areas by the aquarium. Because of Covid they were not serving meals, but the main house/dining area was amazingly beautiful. I can see why people return here year after year. We already want to go back! Home Away From Home

Mar 22nd, 2020

I have been to Seven Gables multiple times over the past few years. It is our home away from home. It is so welcoming, you could not ask for a better host than JR. It is impeccably appointed (fine furniture pieces and delicate statues and soft furnishings, unique lamps) and immaculately clean (the guest rooms and the public areas, thank you to the housekeeping staff). The exterior and grounds are very well maintained and manicured. Everything about it is wonderful from the cherry scones and chocolate chip cookies to the mattress toppers that make you feel like you are sleeping on a cloud. The staff has gone above and beyond for me. On my first visit there I had left something in the room and Laila and Susan mailed it back to me. On the trip there last year we got a flat tire and the front desk person called her mother who had just had her tires replaced to be able to refer us to a good local tire repair shop. There are views from every room. I have stayed in three different rooms and was given a tour that included several other rooms. Each is beautiful and special in their own way. In the breakfast room every seat has an amazing view. And they are able to retain staff members, so you actually get to hear about their vacations and family and they remember your preferences (almond milk) and how you take your coffee in the morning. And they decorate so beautifully for the holiday season. (We have not been there yet when the Lantern Festival was on.) TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
