We stayed at this Hotel

When we went to Austin for my husbands retirement from TRS. It was right across from the place we needed to go. They charged us $230 which included a $30 for parking. On the website it said we would get free breakfast, when we went down there they said it was not part of our package. We were not happy with this and told them we would not stay there again. I was so disappointed in this hotel. A party of four with two separate rooms. Needs a remodel, there were three roaches in bar level men’s bathroom, water left in ice bucket in one of rooms which we could have over looked but the price was outrageous. We were there for 5 nights ranging from $250 to $850 a night because pre-booked price so was locked in and they would not work with us. Sad part was is we could have stayed at The Driskill which is a 4 to 5 star hotel for cheaper or even been a walk in and saved hundreds of dollars a night. They were not sold out. I would never stay there again TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Lack of compassion during extreme weather

The below is the review and rating I would have originally left. Most likely I would have given them five stars. As a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite member, I have found that it is vitally important to recognize properties that deliver excellent service, or at least give the appearnce of striving to do so. Even though the Sheraton Austin Capitol is aged, in some cases to an unacceptable level, they are still trying. You can see this in the amenities they leave in the room, that are not standard for a Sheraton to do such as shaving cream. However, with that said it should be a reminder that one employee can ruin an entire hotel experience. This is what happened with this property and the night auditor named Rahual. I originally stayed at the property for a single night, Thursday, after finishing out a work week in Austin. I was set to fly home on Friday after doing a few more hours of work. But from the moment I arrived at the airport it became clear that my chances of being able to were slim. The line at the American kiosks stretched around the concourse. A quick look at the board revealed that every flight to Dallas as well as many other Texas cities had been cancelled. This was due to extreme weather in the Dallas area including tornadoes. To my surprise at one point it seemed like I would actually be heading home. We had boarded the plane and the door had been closed. But then we found out that the jet had not been fueled, and was not able to do so do to lighting in the area. As we deplanned we could see black clouds descending on the airport. This was quickly followed by lighting and thunder. The thunder was so intense that it shook the glass. I waited another hour and then took the plunge. I made the decision to book an additional night at the Sheraton Austin Capitol. I thought it would be prudent to book a room to have a place to sleep. Things quickly changed and with surprising haste we reboarded and departed on the short flight. It suddenly struck me that I needed to call the property. By this time it was midnight. It had been a little over two hours since I originally booked the room. However, I knew it was important to call as I wanted them to be able to sell the room. As a Titanium member they are not allowed to oversell my room. Marriott core values revolve around dedication to the customer. From the moment I called, I experienced the absolute worst customer service. It took over 5 minutes before, Rahuel answered the phone. I worked to explain my situation, Rahuel cut me off saying they were oversold. I explained to him the situation. The res had been booked in the past three hours. Rahuel did not care, he was belligerent and rude. He insisted that he could not do anything. He failed to demonstrate compassion or understanding. Apparently to him I should be charged the full rate of the room, even though it was an extenuating circumstance, due to extreme weather. He then hung up on me. The single actions of Rahuel result in a score of 1 star for the property. Based on this interaction I would not recommend the property. Very nice room, excellent service!

Stayed here for a conference, and it was such a great stay! My room was so nice and clean, and the king bed was wonderfully comfortable. The hotel is nice and modern, and every staff person we met was kind and helpful. We ate at the restaurant in the hotel, and the food was very good. I spent an afternoon out on the patio under the trees, and it was so relaxing. Even when we went outside to get an uber, the valet staff opened car doors and loaded our luggage into the uber. I would absolutely stay here again! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Wonderful stay

Beautiful hotel, very nice, clean room. Kind, courteous staff. Nicely located downtown Austin. Our stay was awarded to us by my university, so we stayed for free. This explains why I'm not sure if it's a good value. I don't know what the cost of the room was. It was only one night. But the room and staff were very nice. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
