Melia Dont be Fooled

Jul 23rd, 2019

Just back from The Melia in Bahamas. My recommendation is do not book there. Other than the nice beach and beautiful water it just goes downhill. Marketplace buffet for breakfast and lunch and dinner offers limited selections and poor quality .If you want ketchup bring your own bottle. Other restaurants you had to book beginning at 8am and hope you get in, they say sold out but 1/3 of the table are empty? Dinner one night was largely tortilla chips and old dip. The soft ice cream is ice milk and dixie cup size! Bartenders are slow and if you want alcohol in the drinks bring your own booze.Tips don't help with any of this so save your money. Rooms are small and outdated and the halls smell as if someone got sick and it took awhile to clean up. Lightbulbs out in the rooms and they never were fixed even after request. Best thing to do is go in town and drink at the brewery across from the cruise ships. So glad we did not "Level Up".Thank goodness we had great friends to travel with and share our displeasure! Nice resort but food is terrible.

Jul 23rd, 2019

Before our stay I read many reviews many of which were negative and was really nervous about staying at the Melia. I can honestly say, except for the food, our stay was very enjoyable. I have broken my review up by categories below. FOOD/RESTAURANTS/RESERVATION PROCESS: THE FOOD BELOW AVERAGE. The menus are very limited and what they offer is always a little "weird". If you are going to have a small menu then there should be basics that everyone would like. We had to cancel our reservation at the Asian restaurant because there was nothing on the menu we could eat and there is only one Hibachi table that fills up super fast. Mexican restaurant was the best meal we had. The buffet is great for breakfast but for lunch and dinner it felt like we were eating someone's leftovers. The Italian restaurant and pool grill were just OK. The reservation system is ridiculous! No one should have to get up before 8am to wait in lineto make dinner reservations on their vacation. We were lucky enough to get reservations every night, but many guests said they were not. I don't understand that because every restaurant had empty tables every night. I feel there are just not enough eating options to accomodate all the guests especially on the busy weekends. You shuoldn't have to spend this kind of money and then be told that you have to eat at the buffet every meal. SERVICE: I read many reviews that complained about the service. With exception of a couple of watiresses I can honestly say that just about every employee we came in contact with was welcoming, friendly and happy to help. We honestly had not one complaint about the service. We had several issues with our room and our complaints were always taken care of ASAP. DRINKS: They did not skimp on the drinks at all. You may not be receiving top shelf but they were always strong and well made. BEACH: The beach is BEAUTIFUL!! There are kayaks and paddle boards to use for free. Beach chairs and umbrellas are plentiful. I will say that if you want an umbrella you need to be out really early to save your seats. There is company right on the beach selling jet skiing rides, glass bottom boat rides, etc. DEFINETELY take advantage of the free boat ride that the hotel offers to Balmore Island. It is so nice. You can pay to swim with dolphins or stingrays there. However, you can just go and lay on the beach for free, chairs and umbrellas are free. You can rent floats for the water. Drinks and food very expensive. HOTEL FACILITES: They seem to be in the middle of a small renovation (this did not disturb us at all). All in all the hotel and grounds were in good shape. I will say that the pool deck needs an upgrade. Concrete was in bad shape in many areas around the pool. In my opinion everything was clean and kept well. Air conditioning could be better in lobby and restaurants. Walls are VERY thin! You can hear everything happening in the next room. We actually had to have our room changed because of the couple next door. ACTIVITIES: There is a list of day and evening acitvities posted every day. There is a DJ in the lobby everynight. There is a shuttle to take you to the BahMar. All in all I can say I loved the island of Nassua. I will definetely return to the Bahamas, but sadly I will not return to the Melia. As I said all in all the resort is very nice, service is good, people are nice and beach is beautiful, but the food situation was so bad that I just can't justify returning. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hotel was okay, nothing amazing, nothing terrible. The men and women selling things on the beach with annoying but not over the top. Just fine. Food was okay, options were kinda boring. It was clean enough but not remarkable. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Level is NOT WORTH ANYTHING

Jul 22nd, 2019

Here now!!! 3 days in to a 7 day stay.. Amelia at level lounge was zero help with the amenities we were supposed to receive as a level guest upgrade. You do Not receive top shelf liquor with the level plan. 4 days in & it’s the same liquor as regular bracelets guest. 2k xtra & same liquor as regular non level guest. I waited over 15minutes at the front desk to be told a manager would call. “Party your trying to reach is unavailable” is what we get when trying to reach room service, level service, level concierge, guest service ...extra towels (3 in our room but consistently receive 2 towels) & xtra blankets (rooms are cold) bring heavy pajamas & your own blankets.. for 2k extra “level”, took 4 days to get a blanket. Service is NOT worth upgrading that we have seen...at all. No idea what level service gets you at this point. Not high maintenance at all but trying to figure out what the $360 a night is for when we can’t even get basic services (3 guest should at least equal 3 towels, at LEAST) We have tipped, servers, maids, level service, bellman.. everyone. @pablo @kenisha @ de andra. Helpful prior to stay but “not available” once it’s 0paid for,”level” or not...like we don’t exist & no one is available to give a hoot when you try to let them know how to make it better. We have 3 nights left... bet we don’t here from anyone till it’s to late.. even with the “”level” upgrade.. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Family Summer Escape

Jul 22nd, 2019

This is going to be long ..... on arrival we found our way up to the Level check in. Our room was not ready but we were directed to go for lunch. Our bags had been left near the entrance and whilst Level had asked us for tags, we had not been given any so checked on baggage to see it was mixed with others and no order. Lunch outside (only option) in travel clothes so a little warm but after that our rooms were ready. Despite booking 9 months in advance and asking for connecting rooms, this did not happen which baffles me as surely despite full occupancy with that notice, you simply designate those rooms in advance? Rooms were overlooking pools and ocean and a beautiful view. The rooms had everything you needed and whilst our aircon worked beautifully, not so much in our children's room next door. As level guests you get a small fridge with a variety of drinks inside. Despite the fact we only drank one type of drink from the fridge (you'd think thats what they would re stock it with but NO) so thankfully as Level guests, we could grab some from the fridge in that lounge each day as we walked by. Rooms are well maintained and ready each day as we came back in. Restaurants - thank goodness for being a Level guest as they booked our dinner times for us - other guests have to be queuing before 8am each day to book for that night whereas Level guests can book 3 days in advance. Good choice of restaurants but the Angus Steak house is so expensive. Such a shame to make it like this which prevents many guests from going there as its such a beautiful restaurant, great staff and food. Japanese again is excellent - staff are brilliant and food is delicious. Cilantro - both times we went in - had to wait 30mins for table booking and then several dishes not available each time???? Service varied in here. Aqua - Italian - again had to wait a considerable amount of time to get table and be served. Almost 45 mins on our second visit. Again, items missing off the menu. Can understand once but on both visits? Service was poor in this restaurant. Market - only visited twice for breakfast and again long queues. If staff got on and cleared tables quicker, the queues would be less. Definite attitude of some staff in this restaurant and really unhelpful. Such a shame as great food and could be easily rectified which better management. Outside BBQ lady - WOW!! works her socks off and food is excellent!! Bars - by far our favourite and big shout out to the Dicenzo on the bar outside the restaurants as they were the best. Level Beach - a special area designated just for Level guests and has comfy sunbeds, own towel hut and drinks service! Beds are great and good location for all. Loved it down here everyday but two problems that again could be easily solved to make this space perfect. We've been to lots of all inclusive that nail this. Each day the beds were dirty - you had to waste one towel cleaning them down of debris, sand, etc before you could lie your towels down. Staff are outside working, just add this into the tasks. Towels - ran out frequently. its a Caribbean island - you have rainstorms every day - the towels get soaked - you should have enough towels or a laundry that can deal with this. Go to the Atlantis (it has towels for hotel guests, water park guests, cruise ship guests) AND IT DOESN'T RUN OUT!!! Buy more if necessary. we went one day asking at all towel huts and even at 5pm couldn't get one so had to pad back through hotel to rooms, wet!! Level drinks service - you either had two of them working the beach at the same time for about 30 mins or nothing for 2 hours and you ended up walking and getting your own drinks due to dehydration (I'm not joking) most of the time, they are sitting in their hut on their phones - FACT!! Such a shame as this hotel has the actual potential to be amazing but it falls short on so many sides. Its a 3 star and no more. I could write so much more but its depressing to be so negative. LEVEL STAFF are brilliant and help you with everything so big shout out to them!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
