Under Construction

Jul 18th, 2019

I was at the Sheraton for a conference from 6/13-6/17. We were promised the construction would be finished upon our arrival. That was not the case. When I arrived, after check in time, I still had to wait over an hour for my room to be ready. I was not compensated in any way for this inconvenience. I was simply told by the receptionist there is nothing that can be done and just to wait like everyone else. The lobby was filled with guests waiting for their rooms and no one being offered any compensation. During my stay, construction did affect the conference. At times it was very noisy in the conference area. In addition, the elevators were not operating at times which was an inconvenience for attendees. The front desk staff was not helpful at all during my stay. In fact, they acted like it was an inconvenience for them to split the bill with my roommate. The employee was quite rude with us. The remodeled room was nice, but the new smell was very overwhelming! The coffee maker also did not function properly. Would have enjoyed the stay more without the construction! Under construction...

Jul 17th, 2019

I stayed here for a conference. The hotel is under construction. It was a little noisy and chaotic during the day. Even the elevators were constantly in and out of service. On two days, the elevators were partially blocked by workers painting and scaffolding to work on the ceiling. It was a little frustrating. There was also no restaurant in the hotel, however, you could get food at the bar, but it was not well advertised. At check-in and in the room, there was no information given about the "perks" of the hotel and where to find things in the hotel and in the area. There were no ice machines, soda machines and I couldn't even find a place to purchase small snacks in the hotel. The "fitness room" was literally 2 exercise bikes. Perhaps if there was less craziness in the hotel, it would have been more pleasant. The room itself was clean and updated, but still had the smell of paint and new carpet which was a little stifling. Great location, but experience depends on room placement

Jul 17th, 2019

Full disclosure: this location was under construction for renovations when I stayed there, but that is not the main reason for my rating. The lobby of the hotel is four stories high, and the 2nd-4th floors have some rooms where the hallways overlook the lobby and others where you are farther back from the "main drag". My room was one room off of the main corridor that looked out over the lobby; it was mainly fine except that my last night (which was a Tuesday) had a loud crowd at the tables/bar in the lobby and that night it was noisy until after 11:30. My room also seemed to be located right next to a generator or a large piece of machinery that had a constant humming sound (much more than just the AC in the unit). The room itself was quite nice, as was the bathroom, and the location is great for being located near historic Philadelphia. Front desk staff was lovely and helpful. I would consider staying here again but would probably try to request a room that did not look out over the lobby. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location but.....

Jul 6th, 2019

Full disclosure: the place was being renovated while we were there but this didn’t affect our stay very much or any of the points in this review. Check-in was very odd. I booked on Hotwire and, while I had my confirmation number and the reservation was clearly in my name, the spelling of my name was one letter off and this seemed to be a very big deal to the guy checking me in who asked me several time “so who is.....” and when he finally understood it me said, “ You have to make sure you tell them spell your name right next time.” Whatever, dude. Please, I clearly have a reservation. Just let me go to my room. Hallways were dark and musty smelling. Room was very dated despite the hotel advertising recently renovated rooms. Maybe they didn’t get to all of them yet. Ice machine wasn’t working. They told us to call downstairs for ice but, since that would mean having to tip someone, we didn’t want to do this. On the plus side, bed was comfortable and the location, steps away from all of the historic attractions as well as Spruce Street Harbor and Penn’s Landing. However, not a great experience overall. Excellent location, but some areas need improvement.

Jun 28th, 2019

We stayed here for two nights during a recent quick visit to Philadelphia. The hotel's location is excellent - it's in a nice, relatively-secluded corner of Society Hill but it's just a short 10-15 minute walk to the major attractions in the area. There are also plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. The hotel is undergoing a massive renovation. The lobby area was covered up and the reception area was temporarily transferred to a different location during our stay. The main entrance to the hotel was also moved on our second day there. The room we stayed in was obviously newly-renovated. It was very modern, clean, and spacious, but the smell of paint and wood hits you the moment you enter the room. It would have been nice if they did something to mask the smell. We had breakfast at the hotel twice. Breakfast appeared to be in a temporary location as well. Food choices were adequate and the quality of the food was alright. However, I noticed that the place seemed rather understaffed, and staff aren't as attentive as I would have hoped. Our glasses of water weren't refilled unless we call the staff's attention. Sometimes, we would just bring our glasses to the pitchers at the bar and we would refill them ourselves. I sure hope that these setbacks are just temporary due to the renovations going on. Overall, however, our experience was still pretty good and I'd probably give this place another chance.
