funny and interesting

From the check in to the end, the staff here are quirky and quite funny and laid back. a good intro to Amsterdam. We tried only drinks at the fancy sushi bar izakaya but the vibes are great. Rooms are modern but quite modest, although self sufficient. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Loved it

A real shame to see some negative reviews on here. We have stayed here twice (we come to Amsterdam every year and this is the first hotel we have stayed in twice!) We didn't pay over £200 a night, although I know at times it was priced at that. I think less than £200 is the right price as our room was fairly small and didn't have natural light (windows are blackened a bit on the ground floor), The beds are comfy, it's very modern and the rooms are decorated lovely. It is my favourite hotel in Amsterdam and so long as I can get a decent price (for Amstterdam as all hotels are expensive!) then I would stay again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Under construction & Bonvoy credits issues !

Nov 12th, 2019

I booked 3 rooms for business for 1 night.... after staying 2 nights at their sister “music” property across the water. I wish someone had told us the whole front of the hotel was under renovation. It was a drag to see scaffolding as our view. ONE of the rooms at least had windows that cracked open a bit (room 134), but 133 & 132 were very small. The check in was easy. They offer nice options for welcome drinks. The location is great (outdoor market is 1 block away). We didn’t realize HOW great the location was until after we left. 😩 The rooms had good TVs, strong Wifi, coffee makers & you can drink the tap water in Amsterdam. Love that! The lobby is super cool too. there seems to be a problem with both of the Amsterdam Sir hotels and how they work with the Marriott Bonvoy system, as I’ve had to call & email several times to receive my stay credits (all booked through the Marriott App), and they’ve STILL not posted. They are the last 2 stays that I need to earn my Platinum stripes back once again. I’d like to book another Marriott property tonight - and will not receive my Platinum benefits as the result of the Sir hotels delays in crediting me. Bummer. Also note- both hotels will list discounted rates lower than the Marriott app on Hotels Tonight & other online sites. I heard Marriott’s low price guarantee does not apply to these properties- so check around if you want the best prices! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not worth it, and poor service

Nov 6th, 2019

First of all, the hotel is not good value for the price. I stayed there with my parents and in both of our rooms the bathrooms clogged. In my room everything was constantly clogged- the shower, the sink, and the toilet. The shower was a tiny cabin with nowhere to even hang your towel, and water spilled out into the room. I get that it's an old building but this is not acceptable. Service was also poor- I left my eyeglasses behind and it took them 2 days to identify them, and another 2 days to ship them to me, which they did using the slowest option although I specifically told them I needed them urgently- I can't see!. Now my glasses are lost and I certainly won;t stay there again or recommend it. Oh, and they had a DJ brunch in the restaurant on Sunday which was super loud, and dare I say trashy... No room despite booking

Nov 6th, 2019

We turned up for a very special weekend to find we had no room despite booking months ago and confirming our booking on the phone. There were no apologies rather we were made to feel we should be thanking them for moving us and giving us breakfast at another hotel. We asked why no one even told us beforehand and they said they didn’t have our details- this is a lie as we were contacted to confirm the booking. It was made out were being upgraded in the new hotel but I looked up the hotel we were being moved to and it was not a like for like room at all it was considerably cheaper- yes breakfast was given to us but we didn’t want breakfast. At the end of the day we had to accept but it ruined our first day of a very special rare weekend away and all I wanted was a sorry from the hotel rather than made to feel really uncomfortable and that I should be thanking them for finding us another room something we had paid a lot of money for.
