Old time elegance.

Old hotel but elegant. Service oriented staff all quite professional. Rooms a bit choppy in shape, but sufficient. You pay for the location in town. Eddie the Beefeater out front was quite nice to us. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Expensive and Tiny

Aug 23rd, 2019

When booking my stay through a travel app taxes and fees were applied. I was unaware the hotel would charge an additional "amenity fee" and "amenity fee tax" for each night of my stay. Between the taxes and fees paid through the app at the time of booking and the taxes and fees charged by the hotel during my stay, I paid $65 in taxes and fees for each night of my stay. It essentially eliminated any savings I thought I was getting when booking through the app. The hotel is gorgeous, regal, charming and has an old world flair. There is a coffee hour in the morning and a wine hour in the afternoon. The staff is courteous and attentive. The lobby, rooms and elevators are clean. Although the gym had a bit of a musty smell. However, the rooms are extremely tiny! The bathroom had just enough space to fit the bathtub, sink, toilet and one person. The walls and doors are extremely thin, enough that I could clearly hear the conversation and applause in the room next door. During the first part of my visit to SF, I stayed in a different hotel a few blocks away. The room rate was higher but the room tax was lower, and there was only one room tax applied and the room was much larger. If I return to SF I will likely not choose to stay at this hotel. Great location, interesting old hotel

Aug 21st, 2019

This early 20th century hotel has been renovated in the past 10 years and is fine for the non-luxury traveler. The service is good and the rooms are small but have all necessary amenities. A good substitute for the St Francis, Palace, or Marc Hopkins for the budget minded. Location right off Union Square and on the cable car line to Fisherman’s Wharf is fantastic. Apparently typical

It’s a take it or leave it attitude at the hotel as well as the City. It’s outrageous to see what they charge for a dinky room yet the worst part is the bed. My hips and ribs are sore from trying to sleep on the aged bed. I’ve had benches while stranded at airports that were more comfortable. They only had one elevator working. It took longer to go down than it did to walk across town. The attached bistro is no better. Runny eggs and raw bacon. But they are extremely proud of their food, even a small bowl of oatmeal came out to over $20. For a place that wants $899 per night, you would think it would have some redeeming quality, but no. Holiday

Stayed here for four nights, great central place. Staff really helpful. Rooms good size n very clean, an old building with great character. Had drinks here but didn't eat, our choice as we're out and about. Definitely recommend TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
