Perfect place for a vaca to San Fran!

Jan 26th, 2020

So glad we chose this hotel for while we were in San Fran. The location worked out great and allowed us to have either short walks or Uber rides to things we wanted to do/eat. Our room was clean and spacious. Elevators never took long. The bar in the lobby was great, as was their restaurant Scala’s (which we ended up having dinner at one night, and we normally avoid hotel restaurants when traveling). Will absolutely be staying here again next time we’re in SF! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great hotel and location.

One night stopover after 2 0 day cruise. Very friendly, efficient check-in and fabulous , large bedroom with all amenities. Trolley car stops right outside..8 dollars each way...you have to do it. Union square less than 5 minutes walk with every shop you can want. Fabulous place and location. Definitely recommend. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing hotel and perfect location

Jan 24th, 2020

We stayed here just before the new year on our honeymoon. What an amazing place. The hotel has a real historic and classic feel about it. We got given two free drinks passes when we checked in as I was an IHG member and on honeymoon. The room had an incredible view over Union Square. We were also given a bootle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries as a small gift for our honeymoon which was very very nice of the hotel. There's a public nightclub on the top floor which we didn't get to see but heard good reviews of it. The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough to help. There's a starbucks right underneath the hotel as well which was perfect to get a coffee to start the day when going out and about. We will definitely be going back, hopefully sooner rather than later! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Old San Francisco Charm

Jan 21st, 2020

As a San Francisco native, I love the days the Sir Francis Drake represents. It's beautiful and there isn't a neon sign in sight. My sis and I just spent 2 nights in one of their larger double queen rooms. We switched to a higher floor because in our first room we were level with a rooftop of vents. There was no problem accommodating us. Except for the lady who checked us out, the staff was wonderful and the service was great. I would absolutely give the SFD a B+, A-. The only things that bugged us were when we ordered room service, they don't bring a table so you're eating on your bed while one person eats from a desk. So forget the intimate dinners. Also, they add an automatic gratuity of 20% to the bill which is fine if you're aware of it, otherwise, you're over-tipping. All in all, it was great! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice renovations, fresher look, elevators need help

Jan 19th, 2020

I stayed at the Drake for 4 days during a conference. Room was neat and clean, service was friendly and helpful. Breakfast at Scalas Bistro was very good but expensive - and no better than the diner across the street. The only negative were the slow elevators that can’t keep up with the traffic and the stairs are a steep alternative. The Starlight Room renovations were excellent and worth going upstairs to visit and see the incredible views. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
