Too many negatives for the high cost
Apr 23rd, 2019
First time, multi-night stay at Sofitel New York was disappointing. Cost a bundle, but what I encountered were: (1) decidedly unfriendly employees who seemingly have been trained to never smile---from the frighteningly somber woman who checked me in at front desk to the Concierge who, in answer to my query, never looked up from his cellphone and instead merely raised his hand, pointed and grunted "Over there"; (2) walls between rooms that had little or no soundproofing---I could hear every conversation in the next suite, one night I could hear two females in a romantic liaison, I could hear music and the television from next door being played at a normal level; (3) a halved bathroom door where one half would not stay open, thereby leaving me about a 14" opening to squeeze through sideways into and out of the bathroom; (4) housekeeping that came by way too many times a day (I've never had so many knocks on my door, day and night, to the point that it became intrusive and annoying; and it seemed like every time I left my room, day or night, even if briefly, when I came back housekeeping had been there, neatening the bed pillows or refolding the towels.). On the plus side, the room temp was accurate, comfortable and quiet; the midtown/theater district location was good for me---most stuff within walking distance and easy access to subways; the bed was comfortable. Will return to less expensive options next year. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Quiet European Style Hotel with American size

There is nothing to really complain about this hotel. The rooms were large and had all the things you would expect a nice international city hotel to have. My parents surprised us with a cheese board and champagne for my CFP accomplishment and my Wife's birthday. It was good. Also, the walls seemed thick as I never heard a peep for anyone next doors room. It felt like we had the whole floor to ourselves. I think being in Midtown has some drawbacks for younger guests as we kept feeling all the places were wanted to go were south. But the price was amazing at the time of booking so we did it. Also, we do not mind walking or the subway. Lastly, the bed was not too good. Pillows were squishy and did not hold up. The bed felt like you sink into it because of the large pillow cover they added on top of the mattress. Good thing we were tired each night from city walking. I would stay here again if the price was right and I would recommend it to people. We did feel like the youngest guest and we are in mid 30's/ TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

NYC trip to see "Network" with Bryan Cranston. We have been guests of other Sofitel Hotels, in Paris, London, Miami, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C. Imagine my surprise when I saw the theater for our show was not even a three minute walk away! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Perfect location for all of Manhattan. Usual excellent Sofitel amenities, including the best hotel beds there are. On the down side, the room decor is looking tired, breakfast was not a great experience, and our room wasn't ready on arrival, despite given time we would arrive. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Unprofessional con behavior - internet didn't work for whole day!

I booked two rooms for the 13th to the 15th of April. Took my pregnant wife, my mother and my brother for a 12 day vacation in the USA. I booked 1 queen bed room for myself and my wife, and a 2 single bed room for my mom and my brother. When we arrived at the hotel we were told we were getting an upgrade for the 2 single beds room. We thanked and got our keys. When we got to the supposedly 2 single bed room, which was upgraded, there was a king size bed and a small roll-away bed at the bottom of the king size bed perpendicular to it. My mother is 75 and she was not going to sleep on that bed for sure, and my brother is 6'4 and 240 pounds so the roll-away wasn't an option either. We went down to the reception immediately to complain that we specifically asked for a two bed room, exactly because they had to sleep in separate beds, but big enough beds - not a roll-away. I guess they thought just because they were giving us a room with a king size bed, that would justify one of us to have to sleep in a roll-away. May I say that we are talking about a US$350,00 room per night. The gentlemen apologized but he had no room like the one we booked and it was out of his hands. I said, how can it be out of your hands when I have a reservation for 2 rooms where it is clearly stated that we booked a queen size bed room, and a 2 single bed room, and now we must sleep in a roll-away bed. I said if we booked a 2 single bed room how can he say he does not have one to give us? He tried to give us drinks at the bar to compensate but none of us drink so it really didn't matter, then he said something about complementary breakfast, but that is not what we wanted. We just wanted the room we booked and not a roll-away bed room. Besides that the internet was off for the whole second day we stayed there and we couldn't even print our boarding passes at the hotel. Our rooms were prepaid so there was not a lot we could do about it. But we now know that if you book a room at a Sofitel Hotel, don't bother asking for the room configuration cause when you get there you may get something different then what you asked for. Guess con artists are everywhere these days. a shame for a brand that was once a real 5 star and now has come to this. Recommend to never stay there! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
