Fab location

Jun 18th, 2020

The location of this hotel is ideal. Walking distance to so many restaurants and sights. The hotel itself was good. Our room was a junior suite, which seemed semi renovated. The lounge area was very dated, but the adjoining bedroom and bathroom were quite nice. I found the staff at this hotel to be amongst some of the friendliest people I have come by. Cannot really comment on breakfast, as we were with a tour group and had an area to ourselves with a buffet breakfast which was okay. Would certainly come back again for the location and wonderful staff. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We spent a few days in Strasbourg and stayed at the Sofitel. The hotel is beautiful, in a perfect location. We would particularly like to compliment the concierge, Pauline. She was very personable and professional. She greeted us by name each time she saw us and made several outstanding restaurant recommendations. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent location and amazing staff

Jan 23rd, 2020

Booked 3 nights in the Sofitel for a business trip to Strasbourg, mainly because the location and it's a five star. Arrived to the reception desk by 10:45 hopping an early check in (after a long trip from Dubai),and i was nicely surprised , the room was ready so could finally have my shower and a nap (thanks to the brunette lady in the reception). I've got a Room on the 3th Floor (i wanted one in the 4th or the 5th floor following peoples room tips on tripadvisor cause most of them suggested rooms on the 4th or the 5th Floor) unfortunately those rooms weren't ready yet (had to wait til PM, which i couldn't after my long trip ). The Room was ok, quite small (doesn't really matter for someone in a business trip as far as you can have a good night of sleep), Had a view on the restaurant terrace and the street behind the Hotel ( not the best one, but again it don't mind). After my nap, i looked at the things to see and do in Strasbourg , and every monument , place, good restaurant was within 20 to 30 mn walking distance from the Hotel (which is perfect). So if you want to visit Strasbourg and stay in a comfy Hotel , the Sofitel must be your choice. Next day, breakfast was great. You can order all sort of omelettes, scrambled , poached, or boiled eggs, large choice of juice , fruits, home made and Bio Jam, some amazing breads and tasty local cheeses, coffee is not too bad. If you'll go there using a car please not that the parking isn't free, and it's pretty hard to find a parking lot. I'm not giving 5 stars because as a 5 stars Hotel, The Sofitel strasbourg still need some improvement to get that standard. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

It was ok

Jan 20th, 2020

I booked this hotel because we were going to the Christmas Markets. They were in walking distance...on looked perfect...the hotel didn't tell us that we wouldn't be able to drive onto the island after 11 am. it makes a very long walk when you have 6 people, 1 baby and one with a cane. I would have appreciated a heads up! we stayed 2 different nights. The first nights rooms was fine. it was a good size, very dark and a little dated. but, ok...the 2nd stay was so different. I felt like as a repeat customer they might give me a similar type, the room we got was very tiny...very uncomfortable...the toilet was situated the wrong way! you couldn't put your knees out...I had to sit sideways. I can't believe no one else has never complained...this room should not be used and especially for the price that I paid. very bad! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent Service from Staff Saved tthe Hotel

Jan 10th, 2020

Room was horribly small, old and dark. We rented a suite and had a sofa bed for children to sleep in. Once sofa bed had been opened, there were hardly any room to walk or open your suitcases. It made the stay uncomfortable with the serious lack of space. During the night, there were weird clicking cracking noises coming from the air vents. With the hotel being so old, it did feel a little loud and creepy. The toilet was near the front door before living room, while the bathroom (only combination of shower/bathtub and sink) was all the way inside after the bedroom. What saved this hotel for us were the excellent staff and service. I think the girl who checked us in was Beatrice (I hope I remember her name correctly) - the one wearing glasses. She was very nice and welcoming. The bell boy who helped us was Laslo/Lazlo (not sure which version/how to spell it) and was extremely helpful and thoughtful. He even provided complimentary pretzels and bottled water for our journey to the next city when we checked out, after he helped with loading our suitcases into the car. I was informed by the staff that this is the first Sofitel in the world and while some people may prefer really old style rooms, we prefer something newer and more spacious as it really was difficult to walk around the room and quite impossible to open suitcases fully. If I have to rate on the room and comfort only, it would have been a 1-star. However like I said, the staff at this hotel were a gem. I have never felt being so welcomed at any of the other Sofitels or other 5 star hotels. Also, parking is very limited. We arrived late at the hotel, parking was already full and we had to park at a public carpark (about 10 - 15 minutes walk away). I heard from the pther guests checking in at rhe time also had the same issue. So leave your luggage at the hotel first if you have to park elsewhere. With room/comfort and parking - 1 point rating and staff/service & location - 5 points rating, technically overall rating for this hotel based on my experience should be 3 points. However as we left the hotel feeling positive and somewhat satisfied thanks to Beatrice and Laslo's caring nature, and comparing with services from other 4 and 5 star hotels (been travelling around Europe 5 weeks and stayed at around 20 hotels), I decided to be a little biased and added an extra point. Please renovate and we would like to return. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
