Cool, elegant hotel in the city centre

Sep 21st, 2019

We stayed for four nights and were glad that we chose this hotel. Check-in was smooth and we received a warm welcome. The room is brilliant/fabulous/breathtaking (and more). We had a room on the 13th floor with a king bed and a view of St Stephens Cathedral. The room is large and hip! I wish our bedroom looked like this!!! There was plenty of space for clothes in the neatly concealed space and the hanging wardrobes were lined with fabric that matched the lampshades (OK, I agree, I should get out more!). The bathroom was huge, with double sinks, a bath, waterfall shower and had Hermes toiletries; there was a separate toilet which is handy. It was all spotless and the maid made a lovely "cake" out of a hand towel on my husband's birthday (his birthday cards were in the room that day) - a cute touch (I will get out more in 2020, NY resolution). Great views over the city and great location too, a few minutes' walk to the nearest metro stop (very handy to get to and from the airport via the CAT). Also handy to explore the Old Town abd Prater Park. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel but did use the free (non alcoholic) drinks in the mini bar and the Nespresso coffee machine (pods supplied). There were also tea bags but no kettle (perhaps the coffee machine was also a tea machine?!). To be honest, we were a bit wary of the security having read reviews noting that non-guests using the bar and restaurant used the same lifts but were relieved to find that there was a separate set of lifts for the Das Loft restaurant and bar. We had dinner at Das Loft (separate review) one night. The key card operates the lift and this would be a secure hotel for single travellers too. A truly 5 star experience (we have stayed in 5 star hotels in other cities, honest). TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

An outstanding experience in Vienna

Sep 15th, 2019

This was my first stay at this Sofitel/SO property in Wien. I was quite favorably impressed. The hotel is beautiful - there's a lot of "curb appeal", as the expression goes. More importantly to me as a visitor, the guest experience is wonderful. For instance, when I checked in I asked a few questions. The helpful lady who checked me in said she'd just show me instead of describe the answers. She went up to the room with me and spend a couple minutes doing exactly that. A small example perhaps, but the kind of service I encountered throughout my week-long stay. The room itself was gorgeous. I booked a suite overlooking St Stephansdom, and it was an amazing place to spend the week - very spacious, immaculately maintained, and luxurious. The bed was wonderful; I slept better than in any other hotel I've stayed (and I spend 60+ nights per year in hotels). The pillow menu was indulgent, giving plenty of options for different-style sleepers. I booked breakfast-inclusive, and I loved dining in the restaurant every morning. As with reception, the staff up there was outstanding as well - warm, welcoming, helpful, and attentive. The food was great, with a no-extra-cost menu for hot items and a good buffet of cold items. Location is excellent too, as it was within a comfortable walk of all the major sites. It's also just far enough outside the tourist center to be quieter, and to allow me to walk *around* the super-busy core on the way to destinations that were also on the periphery (like MuseumsQuartier). All in all, this is an outstanding property, and I highly recommend it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

So is a wonderful hotel with a so-so service.

Sep 13th, 2019

I would recommend to stay at So to everyone who came to Vienna when So do something with hospitality. Exceptional hotel to me, so much effort in design, many details ... end everything spoiled by inability to provide customer experience. So pity really. I had to call 3 times to get an iron. Then I get two. And I’m not count the tries to get somebody on line. Two times I asked to get rid of the iron after( two in my case), no one care. After the cleaning I found three slippers in a row in my room. I used the new set. But it’s disgusting guys! I guess they found one under the bad left by the previous guest! I told this all to the resorption staff but instead of trying to somehow sweet the pill, compensate it somehow, changing my experience, they just agree and sympathized with me. Do I willing to stay there again? Surprisingly yes. But I hope to be heard by the management. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We were underwhelmed

Sep 8th, 2019

We stayed at this hotel in late-August 2019, and based on our stays at other Sofitels in Europe, we were underwhelmed. The location is very good, but we found the hotel lobby unremarkable. Our room had an amazing view, and was clean and well-maintained, but the all-grey aesthetic was a bit dull, and not what I would expect from a five-star hotel. We found the room short on storage space, and we did did not like the fact that one side of the bed was pushed up very close to the wall, with no nightstand on either side of the bed. The restaurant has amazing views, but had no availability for lunch or dinner during our five-night stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful inside and outside!

Sep 5th, 2019

Just recently stayed at this Sofitel hotel. Our party needed two rooms. Rooms are not what you expect in an average 5 star hotel. One room was all white interior. I mean all white. walls, ceiling and floors and the other room was all black. Yes all black. Highly unusaual and eclectic. We also got a chance to eat at the roof top restaurant twice which should be considered the crown jewel of the property. The 360 degree view of Vienna at night is amazing and yes food is great too. Location was close to all the tourist areas so we really didn't need a car. Will most certainly stay there again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
