Had to request essentials in the room

Sep 18th, 2020

We stayed in a luxury room. There was a lot of natural light in the room, extremely comfortable bed, and very clean. There were a few things missing though, especially considering it was more than a one night stay, and due to COVID, they do not enter rooms during the stay. We only had two pillows rather than four. We had one bath towel total, a partially stocked mini fridge, a broken espresso machine with only one espresso cup and one regular espresso. Overall, the room was under stocked with things we needed. We had to call for more towels, pillows, espresso, cups, and a new espresso machine. They brought them right away; however, I felt that we should not have had to ask at all for things, like more than one bath towel in the room for example. The hotel is in a great location, near The White House. I would recommend staying here; however, for it being rated 5 stars, I would’ve expected the room to have had all the essentials we needed without having to ask. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Couldn't have asked for more!

Sep 16th, 2020

On a random road trip around VA we found the Sofltel Washington DC to have amazing rates for a five star hotel, so naturally we booked two nights in a suite. We were greeted with nothing but smiles and moved to our room, which had been upgraded. Our jaws dropped as soon as we opened the door to our spacious hotel accommodation and wonderful city views. The king size bed might be the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Every time we entered or exited the site the staff was overly nice and pleasant to talk to. We could easily walk anywhere we wanted to in the city and took lime bikes to tour the monuments. We fell so much in love with this hotel that we actually pushed back our flight home a day in order to enjoy the room for one more night. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great stay

Sep 6th, 2020

We stayed here over Labor Day weekend for 3 nights. Best thing about Sofitel DC is employees. Everyone we dealt with tried their utmost to be as helpful and accommodating as possible. Lobby small, but beautiful and elegant. Check in a breeze. Wonderful front desk personnel. Our first room was a superior but if natural light is important to you, avoid this category and go up to luxury. The difference was night and day (literally) and the difference in cost is not significant. Front desk kindly upgraded us after we voiced concerns about the first room. Second room was absolutely gorgeous, stylish, sophisticated. Super comfortable bed, luxury linens, nespresso maker, large TV, gorgeous furnishings, marble bath, LANVIN toiletries, plush towels. We had drinks and small plates at Opaline. Very nice. Again, wonderful employees! The blackberry mule was delicious, truffle fries yum, and macarons were perfection. There is virtually no service at the hotel, no restaurant, breakfast, room service, housekeeping, valet. The housekeeping part was difficult to swallow, but we understand these are unprecedented times. I did call around to some of the other 5 stars in the area and found they have similar policies. Employees made what was initially a disappointing experience a lovely one. We thank them all. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice rooms, very comfortable bed, great location, service ok

Aug 24th, 2020

The rooms are very nice and the bed is very comfortable. The location of the hotel is great because it’s close to the White House. However, the service is not great and they are not very luxurious in few minor things. Examples: we arrived with a baby and asked for a crib before going, reiterated in reception upon arrival and still we had to call to have this crib. Nothing major but when you are tired after a long trip, you would like to have everything you asked for taken care of. Again, the number of towels or soaps are very limited so if, for any reason, you waste one, you have none left. Other things like the ones above showing not a great service you would expect. So I would recommend this place but I would also suggest the management to make an effort to upgrade the service. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Bad.

Aug 8th, 2020

When you arrive at the hotel there is no direction of where the main entrance is or where to park your car. They say that there is valet, but there is not. After waiting 10 minutes for the receptionist to come to the desk to check me in, they give you a piece of paper with a map to the parking garage... 5 blocks away. There are no workers to take your luggage when you get to the hotel, so when you finally get to the parking garage you have to walk blocks back with all your luggage. Not only is this a hassle to walk all this way with your luggage in the summer heat, it is unsafe to be walking blocks through the city with valuable luggage. This service is terrible for a 5 star hotel, and should not be considered 5 stars. Also every time I have gone through the lobby staff was nowhere to be seen. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
