Very comfortable and convenient stay

Jul 16th, 2019

After spending a week of Blues and civil rights history in the Mississippi Delta I spent one night here before my flight home the following morning. It was a 20-minute drive to get downtown (or a $20 Uber) and less than 15-minute drive to the airport. So it scores high on the convenience scale. I was upgraded when I checked in at no extra charge. For one night and traveling solo I certainly didn't need all the amenities but if you are staying longer term, I should list them: two floors, king bed and bathroom on each floor, a living room and full kitchen. Very nice!! Standard breakfast also served. The one negative is the hotel is right near the railroad tracks but with the windows closed it was not a bother and I didn't hear a thing once I went to sleep. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent hotel and staff

Had a great stay in Memphis. I read that the hotel had renovated... my room was great ... had a queen room with kitchen, sitting room and bedroom. Will definitely stay again. I recommend Jana and her wonderful customer service! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Wonderful place for our family

Jul 13th, 2019

Yolanda was so kind and helpful during our entire stay. We were welcomed with a snack bag and upgraded to a loft suite. It was so nice and perfect for our family of three (one who is a teenage boy). It had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and plenty of towels. A friend stayed with us the second night. He forgot a toothbrush and Yolanda helped us out again. We were in Memphis for a baseball tournament and it was nice to have laundry facilities onsite. My parents traveled with us and stayed in their own loft suite. We all enjoyed the complimentary coffee and breakfast. Thank you for making our stay a nice one. We had a small issue with our bathroom sink having a slow drain. Yolanda asked the kind maintenance man to take a look at it and he immediately fixed it for us. I had never stayed at a Sonesta ES, but I enjoyed my stay there and recommend it to others. The Sonesta is adjacent to Central BBQ. We walked over for dinner our last night there and really enjoyed it. Target is also about 5 minutes away. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I don't get it

Jul 13th, 2019

I might be in the minority here, but I don't understand all the four and five-star ratings. The staff was polite, but nothing they said or did was noteworthy. Aside from consistent scorching on the scrambled eggs, the breakfast quality was consistent with that of similar residential chains. There are zero newspapers or tourist flyers of any kind. I thought having paper towels instead of napkins on the buffet was part of the eco-friendly trend, but napkins (made of 100% recycled material) arrived on my last morning. The room was spacious and the bed was comfy, but with only three small air vents (one each in the kitchenette, living area and bedroom -- zero in the bathroom area), I had to shut the kitchen and living room vents to keep the bedroom from becoming stuffy at night. My toilet wouldn't flush all the way and my bathroom sink handle had a gaping leak. The maintenance guy arrived the same AM I alerted the front desk, but replacing the sink rings and extensively plunging the toilet made issues just marginally better (everything flushed but the last piece of TP). I couldn't help but wonder if the water flow cutoff in the toilet was too aggressive; maybe it was a cost-cutting attempt to be eco-friendly since the water pressure in the shower was weak, too. Housekeeping is "light touch" (make bed, change towels and empty trash only) if your stay is less than one week. This policy might explain the neglected brown stainage (pictured) I found in the bathroom, which is never a good look. There was a noticeable water stain on my top sheet as well, but that was cheerfully replaced. In addition to their daily breakfast, Sonesta offers free dinner "socials" on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. I am diabetic, so chicken alfredo, lasagna, sugar cookies, etc. were unsuitable for me, but the selection seemed to be kid friendly. Who comes to Memphis to eat dinner in the hotel, anyway? Lastly, the room doesn't have a business setup at all (no desk or executive chair), which is surprising considering how spacious it is. That said, the WiFi connectivity was good (not "premium" as they claim) and the channel selection was decent, although they have Showtime even though the channel guides and the TV itself say it's HBO. The latter was relatively inconsequential for me, but it still illustrated the consistent lack of attention to detail I experienced. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Best Service Ever!

Jul 9th, 2019

I loved my stay at the Sonesta. From the moment, we walked in, the front desk personnel greeted us with beautiful smiles. My daughter and I were going through a difficult time... Considering my mom passed away earlier that morning. The desk associate, Yolanda went far and beyond upon hearing our unfortunate circumstance... By briefly embracing and comforting us. Not only was she nice, I noticed Yolanda was thorough and quite efficient. Oh there was another, young lady, Jana, who was extremely kind, with the best southern hospitality. She certainly is a great representation of their company. They both were. Now the house keeping lady sort of misunderstood a request; I notified the front desk. She was back in seconds with an apology and completed the request with a smile. The great experience resulted in my decision to stay an extra day. Overall, I'm giving these guys a high rating. They really strive to please their guest... That I love. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
