AMAZING LOCATION, but dirty overpriced rooms

We took our large family of 18 (with 4 smaller families included) for Thanksgiving. We stayed in 3 2 bedroom beach villas and 1 1 bedroom beach villa. Positives - Location was amazing with easy access to the beach and a small pool in front of the villas. Main pool and bar area were lovely. Love the easy parking and trolley access throughout the resort. Negatives - Villas had decent amenities - laundry in houses, kitchens, screened porches, however they were dirty and run down. Chipping paint, sinks that would not drain and mold in all of the sinks. I was glad to have cleaning wipes with me to wipe stuff down before we used it - not just because of COVID - but because units looked like thay had not had a good cleaning in months. Disappointed and feel level of accommodations did not match the price. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

My daughter and I rented the above unit through Sanibel Captiva Island Vacation Rentals. We were very excited about this trip because we have gone through some very difficult personal issues and we needed to get away and relax. When we walked through the door, we immediately smelled mold. For me this is a problem. I have asthma and I am allergic to mold of any kind and black mold is the worst. We tried contacting the office of the property manager but they were closed so we had to wait until Monday. When we called to discuss this matter we initially spoke with Paulina. We explained why we were calling and were put through to Jackie. My daughter tried explaining the situation and Jackie kept interrupting her. Finally when my daughter had enough of being interrupted, she said "I am speaking, please let me finish", and Jackie responded by saying "Whoa!". That was extremely rude from a customer service position and when you are in the service industry, you should never speak to a customer like that. It went down hill from there. Jackie said she would look into this. She told us the property owner said it was not mold but it was dust. Being a Hurricane Sandy survivor, we are fully aware of what dust is and what black mold is and this was black mold. We saw it on the outside of the a/c vents through out the condo and outside on the sliders. We explained that we knew the difference and we knew this was black mold. Jackie said she would send a maintenance person to clean it. I wish it was that simple. If it's in the vents, it's throughout the a/c system and needs professional mold remediation to do the job correctly. All the maintenance guy was going to do was clean the outside of the vents. They insisted it was dust and sent the maintenance guy to wipe down the outside of the vents. That was totally unacceptable, of course. In addition, bright and early Monday morning, we were awakened by the sound of a lot of people going up and down the stairs to the unit above us and throwing things on the floors above us making very loud noises. We came to find out that there was a remodeling job going on up there that we were never told about! To me, this is not a relaxing situation, but more of a stressful one which is not why we came to Captiva and paid thousands of dollars to stay in this unit! The people from Sanibel Captiva Island Vacation Rentals could really care less about any of that as they exhibited their rudeness by not returning our initial phone calls to get some answers and then when we did speak to them were verbally rude to us as well. The answers we got were unacceptable about both of our complaints. First that it was not mold and second that the only other place they could offer us as a replacement was a room at Tween Waters, court side view. We were in a water front condo. Why would we want a room at a very old and out dated place like Tween Waters Inn when we had a view like we had? So instead of them trying to rectify the situation in a satisfactory way, they just treated us rudely and unprofessionally. Needless to say, the relaxation we so desperately needed turned into more stress for us. This experience is one that we will not soon forget. And this particular vacation rental business will never be used by us again, nor would we ever recommend them to anyone! In Sanibel just a couple of doors down from the people we used is Kingfisher Vacations. I know the owners Jeff and Phaidra McDermott. I have done business with them. They were my property manager when I owned in Captiva. They are lovely, honest people and I would have used them but unfortunately anything they had that we would have wanted was already rented. But I highly recommend Kingfisher Vacations and Realtors. I would NEVER use Sanibel Captiva Island Vacation Rentals ever again. I do not tolerate being treated badly by people I do business with that I am paying hard earned money to, nor should I have to! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Not what you expect

We are here 1 day and a half , still 3 more nights to go. What can I say? While resort , the whole place is beautiful, the beach villa we are in is just awful. The armchair and couch is so worn out, you could see the stains... The bedroom, there is an outside light by the entrance door that shines all night long through your bedroom window. It’s like you are on the plane flying and trying to sleep but the lights keep you up. The headboard is not even attached to the bed, so clinking noise every time your pillow hits the headboard. Beside the mattress is squeaky any time you turn.... so practically barely sleep last night and there we are for 3 more nights. The bathtub- the draining so slow that you take shower in your own filth...not acceptable. Being Thanksgiving today, feel like people want to enjoy holiday, so not calling front desk(if there is such a thing...) But what a diss appointment. It’s not we paid holiday inn price to be at this resort. O, I would not recommend this place to anyone....sorry TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Views are spectacular!

The resort is absolutely beautiful. Staff is friendly and helpful. I gave it 4 stars because we switched from a villa on the south side to basically a hotel room on the north side and there was no difference in price. The room we had was spacious and the view spectacular, but I felt like we paid a lot for the room we ended up getting. It needed some updating. Otherwise, it's definitely a place to come and unwind. There's tennis, golfing, bike riding, walking, swimming--food is great too! You can even rent a golf cart while you're there. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Wedding Week during Covid!

Our rooms were terrific, and our guests had an amazing time! We were there for our daughter's wedding which was pivoted to Captiva due to covid. We had 40 guests and there was not one detail that was missing. The food for the wedding was outstanding-choice of beef tenderloin, pan seared grouper and chicken marsala. The appetizers were amazing and we had fruit platters and bagels and mini sandwiches for the bride and groom party getting ready, which were delivered on time and beautifully displayed. The staff went completely out of their way to make sure that I didn't have to worry about anything-no reminders at all. There was not one issue, with the exception of potential weather and they even moved the tables in for a bit to make sure the tablecloths stayed dry. Truly a mother of the bride's dream to have Christine Coppola, Ed, Chef Tim and Marina Bloetz take charge of our daughter's wedding! An amazing experience we will truly never forget during such tough times, when weddings have been a challenge. Other vendors we used were Amy Morgan and Clint Wiley Entertainment who was amazing-PSAV audio/visual who live streamed the wedding for guests at home, Anne Marie at iHeart Films, Krista at Impressions photography, Randall and Susan at Floral Artistry, Bess at LadyCakes, Kay Casperson Salon (Amber rocks hair btw), and Cheryl Quinn for the most amazing makeup that makes you look natural yet 20 years younger.
