Perfect Location for your Key West Adventures

Jun 3rd, 2020

Tucked between Duval St and Simonton St straddling both sides os South Street this resort truly has probably the best location in Key West if you are intending to explore the island. First thing to know is that there is a street that cuts the resort in half. The side closest the ocean is preferable for it's water views, tanning pier, restaurant and "beach". The side closest to the town is nice and has a pool and is more economical but you would have to cross a fairly busy street to get to the ocean and beach or to have breakfast on property. We stayed in Bldg B on the ocean side and the rooms were clean, comfy, with great insulation as noise levels were extremely low. The bathrooms were large w rain showers and shampoo in wall-mounted dispensers. All rooms had small balconies and two chars and a table. The units have a refrigerator as well and bldgs. B, and C had covered parking (but limited). You can get bicycles from the hotel itself while rental golf carts and scooters are a few steps away on South St as well as a deli and lobster shack. A short walk (approx. a block) to Duval St the artery of Key West and shuttle buses. The buoy parker representing the southernmost tip of the United States is about 2 blocks away and early morning is recommended if you want to take pictures there (as all tourist do), The line gets to be prohibitive later in the day. The resort has 4 pools, the nicest of which is on the ocean side called Shore Bar and Pool. The bar is tended to by Aleksandra who turned us onto the key lime pie (fantastic) as well as her wonderfully prepared drinks. They offer a great menu and we got their pulled pork sandwich which was particularly good! The main outdoor/indoor restaurant "Beach Café" is located on their small beach and is usually quite busy. We had our first breakfast there and were deeply disappointed. The food was heavy with grease and not very tasty. Maybe a one off but we decided not to return. There are so many delightful places to have breakfast and dinner in town. However, the bar and bartender (Anastasia) were a hit for us. They do have a beach although very small and the water is loaded with seaweed (again this maybe a one off) that is was not pleasant to even stand in the water. There is also a tanning pier and small sandy area closer to bldgs. B & C Now for the financial part - the rooms (depending on the season of course) can run well over $400.00/night as a base price. But you need to be prepared to pay a $40.00/night "amenity" fee and a $25.00/night "parking" fee, local taxes and fees of approx. $20.00/night and "Occupancy" fees of approx. $12.00-$15.00/night for a whopping total of $100.00 Extra over your room rate. So, negociate the best rates you can! If you need recommendations on what to see and how to get their they do maintain a concierge desk on the town-side of the hotel. Julie (the one manning the desk the day we came in) was tremendously helpful in picking restaurants and sites. The resort also incudes two houses, La Mer and Dewey houses whose rates seem to be lower than the hotel and would be worth exploring before booking. From the Southernmost you need to do the hop on/hop off Duval Loop trolley ($39.99pp) and let it take you up the entire street of Duval; walk up for breakfast at the Banana Café (go early-it's a hotspot w locals and tourist alike); cemetery and the lighthouse, Higgs Beach - if swimming stay close to the rock jetty when entering the water as you can easily injure yourself anywhere else on their beach; enjoy the roosters running around in Key West and the many Iguanas you'll see around as well. Will be back to this property when we visit this vibrant Key again. (They owe me a birthday surprise which was never delivered to our room) TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent hotel - close enough to all the action but away from the chaos

Huge property, lots of different buildings, we chose one along the waterfront, by the pool, rented the hotel bikes and took it all over town and along Duval. Really loved this hotel location and pier. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent location!

Not only is this resort a great location, it’s very well maintained and clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. There’s a trolley stop (and street corner counter to purchase tickets) right at the resort. So many things are within walking distance of your door. Highly recommend! J.B. and Sasha are truly exceptional ! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Friendly Staff beautiful hotel

We stayed her for spring break and it was the best decision we made. Mimi at the front desk was so kind and a great help to us as well as Sasha who went above and beyond to keep our bags safe when we were waiting for our room to be ready and brought our bags to our room. The staff members were so nice and caring about us girls during our stay. The beach cafe was excellent and gluten free options for me which was amazing. The Starbucks on the resort also came in very handy. Overall an amazing stay here for me and my girl friends. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
