Terrible smell due to front desk remodeling

Jan 26th, 2020

To be fair, the staff is excellent and the room decoration is one of the best I’ve seen but, due to the front desk remodeling, a terrible smell from paint (or other chemical) is all over the dependences of the hotel, including the rooms. The carpet is old and with dirt spots (room 1006). I felt nauseous and with headache during the night. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Do NOT book here

Jan 21st, 2020

When I booked this room about 4 weeks prior to arrival the hotel was still operating as a Staybridge Suites..or at least that's what the website said. No mention whatsoever about an impending brand change or major construction. I arrived to what could only be described as a construction site with guest rooms. Once I found the makeshift lobby on the 18th floor I was greeted with a "Credit card and ID, please". No "Welcome", no "Sorry for the inconvenience", no "Sorry for the drywall dust all over your clothes". I told the agent the only reason I booked this particular hotel was because of the amenities offered by Staybridge to which she responded "well we're now an IHG hotel". There are no dining outlets, nothing for purchase, no fitness center, no business center, no lounge, no NOTHING! just a room with clogged drains and no coffeepot. When I inquired about using a fitness center at sister property I was told to go see if the 24hr Fitness down the street might let me in. They did offer a daily "continental breakfast" in the lobby which consisted of bottled waters, apples & bananas (prisoners eat better than that). IHG clearly had no contingency plan in place for a major renovation...or possibly worse, maybe that WAS their best contingency plan. Either way, I don't trust a hotel chain that doesn't inform guests about major happenings, doesn't offer alternatives and doesn't train or empower their staff to make you feel welcome. Goodbye IHG, you can do better. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Should not have been open to public

Jan 21st, 2020

We were not given notice that the building is under renovation. They were definitely not ready for guests. The lobby didn't exist and was a makeshift on the top floor in a guest room. Computers were not working, phones not working so we couldn't call the "front desk". Rooms were not stocked with anything. We had to be put on a list for an iron. No coffee in the rooms and no lobby to get any. The day after we checked in guests were given our room and walked in on me getting dressed. The people we were travelling with first got a room with the AC not working and the second room had really loud pipes. We didn't even get room cleaning service on the second day but someone left towels only. Honestly it was a mess and I can't believe I had to pay for that experience. The only saving grace was because our room was new it was clean. ZERO amenities even the basics not available. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Will not be back

Jan 7th, 2020

We selected the Staybridge in New Orleans for a recent trip. We have had success with their property in Andover Massachusetts and thought it would be a good option for a quick trip down to New Orleans. There was no breakfast available as advertised and the lobby was not just under construction, it did not exist. We had a hard time finding the location because we did not think the building was not open. We will not be returning here. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Inconvenient but tolerable

Dec 25th, 2019

No signs outside to tell you how to get in building. Once you find entrance (it's on the north side, up the ramp) you must check in on 18th floor. (Ground floor thru floor 7 are under renovation. Adds some irritating noise during the day, but not at night.) Staff pleasant considering they are stuffed in a regular room and dealing with remodeling complaints. Assigned a great corner room on 8th floor with lots of space and windows in two walls. But had no heat or hot water. Did get to meet 3 nice maintenance men before moving to another newly remodeled room on 12th floor. Things to like: ada compliant toilets and really nice walk in shower with excellent water pressure. Shower only has a fixed glass wall on half of the shower so need to aim shower head appropriately to keep water off floor. Problem was I had to help my wife, since she is too short to reach shower head and adjust it. Another complaint from females: lights over sink are too dim for makeup and too bright for night light. For some reason the bathroom sink light has a dimmer switch. No kitchenettes or breakfast anymore. Get a to-go bag with muffins, energy bars, drink and fruit. Good enough to hold you over till lunch. Location is still great. If you can not handle the few inconveniences at the hotel you probably won't like 50 degrees and rain, or the fact that the cable cars aren't running because a hotel is threatening to fall on Canal Street. None of it spoiled our time in NOLA. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
