Such an amazing place and team at Sugar Mill!

It has been four years since our trip to Tortola, but I find myself thinking about it often and reminiscing with my wife about it often. Cleaning out my desk the other day I came across my travel log and decided I had to share. Upon arrival, we met with Mary (owner) who offered us a drink, talked about the excursions we planned and received some great advice about things to consider while on the island. Our cottage was well equipped (coffee, fridge, etc.) with a beautiful and private stone outdoor shower. Our bed was heavenly and included luxury linens. Overall, everything was nicely furnished and appointed. The pool was small but provided an intimate setting. We were there before the season kicked off so it was quiet. There is not a bar at the pool but the fridge was stocked and the main restaurant was just a short walk. The beach is beautiful with AMAZING views and there are wicker "apples" for lounging and privacy. Food - We were on an all inclusive plan and enjoyed every single meal we had. We would typically have breakfast in the Sugar House overlooking the beach and Apple Bay. For lunch, we would eat down by the beach at Tramonti and enjoy amazing food like fish tacos, conch fritters, fish n chips, etc. The dinner was always AMAZING! The setting is beautiful as it is in an old stone rum house overlooking the water. Each meal was multiple courses and showed the skill of creativity of Head Chef Bernard (Hey Bernie!!). We especially liked the lobster, ravioli, scallops, duck breast and pork belly. We were lucky enough to do an excursion with the owner and Bernie where we visited various bars like Soggy Dollar, Willy T's etc and snorkeled between stops. It was literally one of the most fun days I have ever had. After our stay here, we went to Scrub Island for a few days. Scrub is nice, but the vibe cannot compare to Sugar Mill. When we left Sugar Mill, it was like saying good bye to family. The staff was fantastic and the owners are so gracious. We will definitely be back soon and I cannot wait! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Perfect BVI Escape

Sugar Mill is our favorite destination in the Virgin Islands. The owners and management are welcoming and make sure we have everything we need for a great vacation. We love the retro charm of the bar music and champagne upon arrival, and the outstanding restaurants are a bonus. This is a classy local hotel, but unpretentious, warm and inviting. This is our BVI home away from home and the only place we would stay when we visit. We love it here so much and can't wait to get back!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Best Vacation Ever!

My wife and I and our good friends had the distinct pleasure of visiting the Sugar Mill Hotel the week of February 24th to March 2nd. After traveling the Caribbean for many years and many beautiful islands; the BVI Sugar Mill Hotel is now our favorite new destination. The Management Team of Andrea and Rupert are outstanding and make it their personal goal of insuring each and every guest enjoys the vacation of a lifetime. They go out of their way to develop and maintain smooth relationships with guests, and show awareness of, and consideration for the many requests of their clients. The resort is a very quaint and charming boutique hotel; from the great guest rooms, lovely restaurants and beautifully manicured grounds. The food is loving prepared by Chef's Bernard and Tony and is consistently outstanding ...... day in and day out! The Waitresses: Kina, Annie, Rosella, Nia and Chantel go out of their way to make sure every meal is a pleasure and build great relationships with their guests. The Bartenders: Victoria, Jason and Sandra are always ready and able to offer a great libation at lunch and especially dinner. Our Housekeeping Team of Savilla, Laura and Cavion ..... were quick to make sure all rooms and special requests were taken care of quickly, and much appreciated. Hard working Stoutt and Richard maintain the beautiful grounds and landscaping. Once in a lifetime you come across a beautiful resort like the Sugar Mill Hotel with a delightful Management Team (Andrea and Rupert) and a supporting cast who display a high energy level and work long and hard to insure their guests a great experience and memories of a lifetime. Well managed by a delightful husband and wife team. Full of local flavor and charm with an excellent restaurant on site. Great water views from the north coast of Tortola. Easy car access to Road Town, Nancy Cay and the west end ferries. Newly renovated since the hurricanes, everything was ship shape, clean and well cared for. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Relaxed and Friendly hotel

A lovely relaxed hotel, with a noticeable lack of the usually hotel formalities. Our room was good, not amazing but as we expected, and everything worked, wi-fi, air con etc. A reasonable view of the sea. Hotel managers and staff were always friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good, I particularly liked the lack of buffet! Everything was cooked to order and arrived fairly quickly. Food at the main restaurant was very good, with great cocktails served at the bar. Food at the less formal Tramonti was underwhelming, we tried it one night and that was enough – a limited menu (even more limited as they’d run out of the starter we both wanted) and pizzas were small for the price. Great setting though, with a lot of potential to improve. Location is good, and driving is relatively easy, whilst the roads look scary, people drive slowly and there is very little traffic.
