nice snorkeling, creepy male staff, poor service, decent food

Dec 5th, 2019

Cons: * I traveled with another woman, and several members of the male staff would ask me where my husband/boyfriend was, or if I wanted a Mexican boyfriend. That is unprofessional and made me uncomfortable. * I most likely got traveler's diarrhea from this location * The food was mediocre overall * The pina coladas gave me hangover almost immediately (just a note to avoid these if you are sensitive) * Broken stuff in the room (phone, door) took over 24 hours to fix/replace * At some point cleaning service took all the towels from our room and didn't replace them, it took over 6 hours to get new towels * the rooms smell of mildew and were consistently damp inside * they will convince you to do a timeshare presentation * TONS OF MOSQUITOS * no jacuzzis (hot tubs outside) Pros: * The fruit and some food items were really good * almost 24 hours of food availability is great * the water for snorkeling is very clear * the water hammocks are great * great sunset views * the entertainment (Mexican traditional dancing, fire dancing, etc) was good * if you go scuba diving, they pick you up at the Secrets pier right next door * the spa is nice (but overpriced) (warning the hydrotherapy is weird and not necessarily relaxing) TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Sunscape never disappoints

Dec 2nd, 2019

Two years ago, we stayed at the Cozumel Secrets, and had a few buffet lunches at the Sunscape, and were impressed. Then in Jan 2018 we stayed at the Sunscape, Curacao and really enjoyed everything. So, when we were looking to go to Cozumel again (3rd time) for some diving and spa, we definitely wanted to stay at Sunscape Sabor Cozumel. We were very impressed with everything Food - the buffet was very good with lots of choices. The 3 restaurants (Italian, Mexican, Western) were all very good with quite a bit of items to pick from. Spa - My wife enjoyed the spa, and wants to strongly mention Marianna, and Catalina, who both treated my wife extremely well. Room - We stayed in the Honeymoon King suite (#3321). It's large oceanfront suite which had a wrap around deck, comfortable bed, and lots of space to unpack. It cost a bit more, but we feel it was worth it. Grounds - We noticed there were lots of small projects going on, and lots of workers cleaning and keeping everything very tidy. We were impressed with the grounds, and beach. Reception - every single person with spoke to at the reception, or in the resort were friendly and very happy to help. Sales lunch - Part of the Sunscape / Secrets (AM Resorts) approach is to try sell you a membership, not a time share. So, they offered us $US 300 resort credits if we met with their sales reps over lunch, which will only take 90 minutes. We were not interested in purchasing a membership, but for the credits, why not. We had the lunch at the Secrets buffet, which was nice, then went to the sales area (near the Sunscape buffet), where they tried to sell us some "amazing" future trip discounts for a fee. In short, the sales persons were not high pressured, and quite professional. We did not purchase mainly because when you boil the numbers down, all you are doing is prepaying for future AM Resort stays / discounts. But, if you purchase a membership, you are forced to go to AM Resorts on every future trip you may want to take. My wife and I are not interested in prepaying for future discounts, and we always want to decide where to vacation because of the destination we want to try, not because AM Resort may (or may not) have a resort to go to. I must admit though, I did have some fun haggling with the salespersons. Summary - The diving at Cozumel is amazing, but now we've been there 3 times in 4 years, so we are going to explore other parts of the world before we go back to Cozumel again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Mostly friendly staff, but deplorable accommodations

Dec 2nd, 2019

I can't believe this place has 4 stars. There is nothing 4 starish about Sunscape Sabor Cozumel. I booked 2 nights here to support my husband at an Ironman event in Cozumel. Unfortunately I missed the race discount which was a third of what I paid per night for the most despicable rooms ever! I changed rooms twice hoping that it would get better and finally gave up. Slept in my clothes and forced myself to shower in the disgusting bathroom. The majority of the staff was friendly, but the front desk staff was totally clueless and useless. My daughter, who was traveling with me, works in hospitality management for Hilton properties. She was totally taken back by their lack of resolutions for their guests. I could have stayed on Chicago's Magnificent mile for what I paid per night at this hell hole. Don't be fooled by those photos. The outside looks sooooo much better than the inside of those room which smell like mold with dirty broken down furniture. I could go on and on. Just proceed with caution. If you're used to outdoor should be fine. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Loved the water sports.

Nov 19th, 2019

I chose the Sunscape Sabor based on its location, and the reviews I had read regarding snorkeling directly from its beach, and I wasn’t disappointed. I loved the convenience of snorkeling from the beach and went out a couple times each day. There’s a wide variety of sea life, and I saw more fish each time I went out. I also used the Stand-Up-Paddle boards every day, and they have kayaks and Hobie Cats too. There are two bars on the beach, and I never had to wait more than a minute or two for a drink. I loved the dinner options, especially the Italian and Mexican restaurants. All the staff was great (e.g. bartenders. activities, housekeeping). The only down side of this resort are the mosquitos. The resort provides bug repellant, and we bought Off, but we still got numerous bites. I’m suspect all Cozumel resorts deal with mosquitos, so this really isn’t a Sunscape Sabor issue. Friendly Staff - horrible accomodations

Nov 18th, 2019

We have stayed at this hotel three times and each time we have been upgraded to their so called "Villas". They are outdated as well but the better of two evils. The standard rooms are horrible, outdated and dirty. Fixtures do not work and drawers are broken. The first time we stayed, we were told that the rooms were being renovated - that was two years. I kept going back because they have a friendly staff - although the only restaurant to eat at is El Patio (Mario is outstanding, he is the best thing about the resort) The other two restaurants have horrible food. I wish I could stay that we would go back but the awful rooms are just not worth the money. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
