All sorts of celebrities have frequented this property
Travelers in search of a more laid-back hotel scene may want to stay elsewhere
Do you love art deco? Because that's what lures a lot of the Sunset Tower Hotel's most faithful guests. That, and an interest in this West Hollywood property's storied history (the elusive Howard Hughes, the writer Truman Capote, the sultry Marilyn Monroe and the "businessman" Bugsy Siegel have all hung their hats here). Since 1929, the Sunset Tower Hotel has catered to Los Angeles visitors, and according to recent guests, the property hasn't lost any of its charm with age. Guest rooms and suites offer floor-to-ceiling windows with picturesque city views, Egyptian cotton linens, luxury toiletries, complimentary wireless internet access and Nespresso machines. The hotel also invites travelers to enjoy a nice meal by the pool or indulge in a spa service. And it's not just two-legged guests who receive the star treatment here; the hotel is happy to provide beds, bowls and treats for furry companions.

Critic Reviews

A clubby style infuses the 1929 art deco landmark once known as the Argyle, bringing out as many locals as tourists to this iconic Sunset Strip boutique hotel. The lobby sets the tone with dark wood and marble floors; vintage Hollywood star photos add retro glamour to the Tower Bar, where you can sink into couches and upholstered corners while taking in the dramatic city views.

A ... Sunset Strip landmark, the Art Deco Sunset Tower draws A-list celebrities and treats everyday guests like stars with impeccable service and a vibe that channels the glamorous history of Hollywood. Despite its small pool, the Tower is still a great value.

Travel + Leisure

Gorgeously revived in 2006 by hotelier Jeff Klein, this 1929 Art Deco landmark was once an apartment building to the stars (John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, and Frank Sinatra all had crash pads here). Though it's been a hotel since the 1980’s, the building's glamorous new incarnation finally does justice to its extraordinary 'bone structure' – which includes dramatic cast-concrete exterior friezes and curved floor-to-ceiling windows.

Condé Nast Traveler

'Breakfast in Los Angeles doesn't get any better than an order of huevos rancheros or avocado toast, eaten by the pool at the Sunset Tower's Terrace restaurant. Panoramic city views, Art Deco details, and power-breakfast star sightings are par for the course at this hotel – a Hollywood institution.'
